Wineguard Traveler automatic satelite dish setup with a Direct Tv Hd Box model H24-700. Auto sat find all three sats, but still no picture. I get a message about not finding the Dish?
Anyone know if theres something on the Box that needs to be changed from home use to the Wineguard dish?

I have a sk-3005. Yes you do need to change the type of antenna in the DTV box. At home you probably have a SWM system. The traveler uses multiswitch technology.

This link should help.

Make sure you write down the house settings so you can change them back when you put the box back in the house.

DIRECTV 771

"771A" is an error code that indicates your receiver is having trouble communicating with your satellite dish. As a result, your TV signal may be interrupted."

Early last year, we upgraded to Winegard SK-3005 dish. Then we upgraded our TV to 3D last fall. The salesman suggested new Monster HDMI cables to get the best picture. But we couldn't get any picture. So DH tried the HDMI cable that came with the DirecTV HD24-100 receiver and we were in business.

Luckily, Best Buy let us return the expensive cables for credit.

Amen - been there with Monster Cable!! It was the last thing we expected because they are expensive and far superior cables right?? Wrong- happened to me twice now and I won't buy them again.

We just had the Wingard Sk-3005 installed on our Hitchhiker last week. It can be set up as a SWM dish using a SWM 8 switch. Four wires into the SWM switch, one wire out and we use a HD spliter for the two TVs. We also encountered the same problem you were having. Resetting the box was the solution for us. You also have to change your settings on your receiver to reflect the correct dish type.

Here is the information from Winegard about setting up a SWM system.

I have a SWM setup also. I run my DirecTv, OTA and cable TV through one cable using a diplexer at each TV. It also allows you to use a DVR on any TV with only one cable.

It is my understanding that not all SWM8's work, so make sure that it is DirecTv approved. The splitter needs to be a SWM splitter. If you only have two TV's you can do it without using a splitter. See the diagrams in the link above.

I don't understand why Winegard hasn't changed their satellite antennas over to SWM technology.

Pete, I don't see any advantage to switch over to a SWM system if yours is already wired.
