I currently run a 7.3 diesel but if I were to need another I would look long and hard for a vehicle similar to above poster as it is hard to beat at all levels. Look at all the gas motor homes running on this platform . JMHO jb

Smart man. Just a side note about RPM's and gassers as I know it scares a lot of folks. Mine makes all of its torque at 3200 rpm's, not 5k. Not much sense in running it higher unless you are pulling up a mountain and need every bit of the HP too.

2005-10 Ford V10 with 4.30 gears.
Only other one that come close is the GM 8.1 V8 with 4.10 gears.
For brand new trucks, the 2011-12 Ford 6.2 V8 with 4.30 gears is no slouch.
As far as the truck is concerned, I would forget the F250 and get the F350SRW instead. The F350SRW has much higher GVWR (1000-1500 lbs higher), RGAWR (6100 versus 7000) and payload capacity (1000-1500 lbs higher), practically no difference in purchase price, and same physical size and maneuverability as the F250. There really is no good reason to buy the F250 over the F350SRW.
I highly recommend more gears for the gassers. 5-spd for the Ford V10 (don't think it ever got 6) GM 2007.5+ 6.0L/6-spd. GM's 8.1L was great, and in a pickup mated to the Allison 5-spd, but they are more than 5 years old by now.

You are correct for the V-10 Ford never getting 6... The V-10 came with a 5 speed auto, the new 6.4 gets a 6-speed.
I recommend to buy a 2wd unless you just "need" a 4x4.
It all depends on where you are at when you go to sell the truck. Here in Utah, you can get away with 2WD, but when its time to sell, no one will buy your truck. They go for thousands less than trucks with 4WD and take forever to get rid of.
I have a 2006 F250 V10. I love it. I tow a 6000lb trailer.

I tow with a 4x4 V-10 excursion. I will flip 200K miles within the month; no complaints and no issues. Power and performance have been great. My TT is at about 9500# empty.
