Gen has to run a little before power to outlets. Also do you have a surge protector in power line from gen. A surge proector has to do its power check. This can take about 5 min.

Not sure if you are saying that genny is delaying powering to just your dvd outlet, but our onboard genny delivers power to all the outlets at the exact same time like when being plugged into shore power. After 5 camping seasons and over 700 hours of genny use, we note that our inside AC and DC voltage monitors indicate that our Onan delivers power to the outlets seconds after the interior switch is depressed.

Chris how long is a while? The more details you provide the better our guesses will be. As Sandia asked, is it juts that outlet or all of them, are we talking 1 minute, 5, 10 or more? What generator do you have?

When I start my generator, the transfer switch will not engage to let power from generator thru to trailer breaker panel for about 30 seconds. This lets the generator stabilize itself before adding load to it.

I know this may seem obvious to most, but on my 1989 Tioga Arrow I didn't realize that to get the genny to power the coach I had to actually plug my shore power cord into a plug inside the same box. I figured there was an auto transfer of power. I spent several days reading forums to finally figure that one out.

The system in my Bayhauler has a delay. It will not load the gen until the eng smooths out. Like up north in cold weather it may take as long an 20/30 sec and down here in summer it's maybe 5/10 sec. It does not produce any 110v during this time. I think it's a nice feature extending the life of the eng.
My WW that had the worst elec system I have ever seen I had to plug the shore pwr cord into a box that came from the gen. The bayhauler does not have this setup.
the way the conv was mounted in the WW the 2 30amp fuses were in the down side and guess what, they came out and I had no 12v in the trailer at all. it was late @ night with 20* temps. No heat=packing up and coming down the mtn. Ruined weekend. What a joke. I sold it not long afterwards.

Yes that is how my WW was and I do believe the OP has a WW so this might be his problem.

RV with a generator will either have an automatic transfer switch or you'll plug in your cord in some where, both work. Having had issues with my ATS I have no problems plugging mine in when I use the generator - one less part to fail.
On my Onan 5500 there is usually about a 1 minute before power is distributed to the electrical systems. I know I have power when I hear the microwave beep.
Without knowing how long the OP is waiting it's hard to say if its really a problem or how it's designed.

The advantage of the WW was that you could run a transfer cable to your home or run a large welder off the genset. This made it versatile when you wished you had an external genset.
My TC has an automatic transfer switch with delay that seems to be better on the appliances since it will not switch over until voltage is stable. It took me a while to get used to that delay from the instant power on the WW.
