I have a 2008 model Cougar with a Suburban SW6DE water heater. I can hear the solenoids click and the igniter click. No gas flow evident. I have gas, so from what I have read it appears that I have a gas valve gone bad. I put my finger on the solenoids and can feel them move but still no gas is getting through. Can the solenoids be removed and checked for movement and wouldn't this allow for checking if the ports are clear also. I am in no hurry to buy a valve if I can repair this one.
BTW, my gas valve is #161109. I find it on E-bay but not in the serial number range of my water heater. They should be the same I would think if the number is the same.
Thanks,
Scott

First.....have you checked to see if reset on ECO is tripped?
If you need to replace valve....wouldn't hurt to remove solenoids....check ports.
Might just be able to fix it...if not, needed a new one anyway.

I'm not sure I'd want to start by disasembling the valve itself to start. I'd first check for any filters or screens leading into the valve being clogged, then I'd check the orfice for blockage (I had a heater in which some sort of bug had managed to get into and blocked the orfice).
If you disasemble the valve, be VERY, VERY, VERY sure you reassemble it correctly and test for proper operation and leaks.

The same thing happened to my Suburban 10 gallon. One more check I would do - Unhook the propane line going to the valve to make sure you have propane getting to it. Also, do you have a spark at the burner when it is trying to start?
If so, just replace the valve.

Thanks for the replies. I have spark and the ECO is OK. I have experience with gas appliances so disassembly is no problem. I will tackle it soon. I can get one on E-bay for around $60.00 so if I mess it up it isn't too bad.

I got a new control valve on E-bay for $59.00 free shipping. I installed it today and the water heater fired right up. We will see how long it lasts. I will keep the old one for the spare coil. I haven't tested to see which one is bad but other comments I have found say the one closest to the tank is likely the bad one due to heat exposure.

I find the coil closest to the tank is usually bad. A good coil reads about 40-50 ohms. The bad coil will read open or infinite.

Still trying to figure out why my Suburban SW6DE HW Heater is not working...one quick question...where is the ECO? Above the Control Valve there are two rubber circles that look like they shuld be pushed, are there switches behind them? if yes, what are they for? Thanks, Barbara
