Got my Blsckstone Oil results back on my 2011 6.6 Chev. No idea whether or not it had the CJ4 required oil in it as it had 40K on it when I bought it and had just been changed by dealer. Was informed that some of the figures were a little on the high side ie: Aluminum-8/Universal avg is 2; chromium-1/avg 0; Iron-33/avg14;copper 5-avg 13. Could just straight 15W-40 oil have been used causing the figures? Not real certain. I just changed it and went with DELO 15w-40 CJ4. Any ideas from some knowledgeable people? Thanks

You'll probably get a better answer in the tow vehicle forum.

Even at 40k, sounds like the engine is still not broken in well. Did the truck have a 5th wheel hitch installed when you got it?(means it's usually been pulled hard and most everything in engine has seated) Was the viscosity of the oil low? That would explain the higher numbers. If Blackstone is not that worried about it, just wait until next time, or do another sample at half your normal mileage and see what it says. If it has improved, then it's a safe bet it was the oil.

No the CJ4 will not cause the metals level to be high. CJ4 is a low ash oil so that ash does not build up in the particulate filter. High levels of metals are usually present during break-in and then go down.

Oil sampling has more value when you can look at multiple samplings over a period of time. Taking a single snap shot (one sample) provides some good information but no real baseline for that individual engine.

Are you sure the dealer changed the oil before you bought it? The Delo is an excellent choice and another sample or two will give you a better bench mark.
