I'm the flip-side of this post.....i'm the kid that camped in a (hot!) pop-up, but grew up...got involved in sports, went off to school, etc. the pop-up got sold, and the trips sort of came to an end. but man those were good times.
Last weekend I parked my 5'er in the spot next to my folk's new motorhome. my daughter stayed with "grammy and poppie" on their couch. We've got a few more trips this summer and will rendezvous with them again a couple more times. Turns out the trips didn't come to an end, they were just on hold. And all that really happened was that they planted this camping bug deep inside me somewhere. Man these are gonna be some good times!

Like others - for a number of years our "family" camping life became pretty much just "Mom and Dad" after the kids hit their mid-teens - but they've come back - now - if we're camping anywhere close to home (i.e. a couple hundred kilometres) it is rare to not have 1 or both sons, their better-halfs and the dogs (no grand kids yet ...). As I type we're getting ready for a few nights on the Lake Superior shoreline ..... wife is packing the games ..... I'm getting the marinade ready for the steaks ...... just like old times ...... sort of .....

The boys are older and have other things going on. Our 18 yr old is working and playing baseball so that he can make the college team. The 16 year old isn't interested in camping with his family and has football practice everyday.
This morning I found myself going through our many family photos of camping trips, with young boys laughing and doing what they do best....playing!!! We started out in a tent, then a pop up, and finally our motor home that was our base of operations on our 35-day Tour de USA. Each had it's advantages and created a different camping experience for us.
I'll never forget two young boys trying to make pop corn in a pan in the pop up, forgetting to put the lid on, and laughing as they tried to catch the popped corn in their mouths before it hit the floor!!!
Or "Frog Island" (so named by my then 10 yr old) as he tried to catch the bull frogs and then get them to stay in the canoe.
Now, those days are gone. While the DW and I will continue to travel and camp, gone are the days where we'd sit at the lake and watch the boys have water fights, chase the dog and try to catch her, or sink the canoe on purpose!!
How often did we think they were too young for some activity and wish they were "a little bit older". Now, I find myself wishing they were "a little bit younger".
Enjoy the years you have with your children before they head out on their own. It seems to go by way too fast!!!!
Same thing here, Those of you that have little ones ENJOY it while you can time will fly by and you have not a clue where it went.
I have no children, and my wife's kids were grown when we met. But man oh man do I have a bunch of grandsons now. We started rving when the oldest was 7 or so. Took him on several trips, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and several trips to Arizona. He's 20 now and we miss his company. The youngest are 3 and 5. Took the 5 year old to a local RV.net rally last year. He will soon be old enough for longer trips.

They DO go by way too fast!! But then, grandchildren come along - and you'll have more free time to spend with them and enjoy all the amazing things THEY do!!
We,too, did the camping with our two boys until sports, etc. took over. We didn't camp for many, many years. We always had such good memories of it, we just recently decided to get back into camping. When we told our boys (actually men-34 & 31), they both commented on what great memories they have of all of our trips. We did tent, pop up, truck slide-in, and smaller MH. We are now in our larger MH with a son, DIL, and 2-yr. old grandson making camping memories for the grandson in "Pop E. & GG's bus". This is one of the best wholesome family activities around that reinforces good family values. I agree the years go by way too fast, but having good times to reflect on and knowing their younger years were filled with fun & family time warms the heart.

Time does fly by,and the older I get it seems the faster it goes!We camped a few times when the kids were young. We have 2 kids, boy and girl. They both got involved with sports and scouting.Ofcourse we as parents got involved with them.We had something going on year round and just about every weekend,so not much time to camp. But we made alot of memories! Now there both grown, and we have 3 grandboys,3,5,and 6 yrs old.90% Of the time we camp now they go with us.I still try and keep up with them but I sure wish I had half the energy they have!I swim and play on the swings with them, tube down the creeks, canoe, ride bikes, hike, roast marshmellows, build fires, etc.and sleep really well @ night. Then get up and do it again!Boy life is great! When kids grow up they will remember the times you spent with them,so get out and enjoy them while there young and still living.
