I have an upcoming event on my property that I want to capture from above.
Is google earth a real-time deal such that I could get a shot of my place on a certain date/time? Do they offer some type of 'upgrade' service that can be purchased to provide this? I'd need something that would be mine, as in my own jpg file that was printable at a later date.
I realize I can hire a fly-over aerial picture company to do this but was just wondering if through the wonders of the internet this could be done without putting a plane in the sky.
Thanks

I have found Google Earth to be hit or miss on how recent their aerials are. You could check with local government, utility companies, regional offices of state and federal governments, Ag extension, water districts - agencies that could benefit from current aerials, and see if they have contracted any flights recently.

If you need/want real time pictures, you better consider a hired fly over. Google map can be several months old. I think the best from Google is about 2 weeks and that was a picture of the 2008 Beijing Olympics area.

Hi,
No, Google Earth is not real-time...any "action" they catch is purely random. If you want to find a friendly FBI or CIA agent, they might be able to park a satellite over your event!!!
You will have to get a plane.

Definitely not real time and don't believe they offer a service to common folk like us. As far as I can tell, they refresh the aeriel shot over our home a couple of times a year.

While in Google earth, look at the lower left of the screen in the info bar, .. it shows the date of the photo of the screen view your looking at. You'll find less active areas, such as dessert or small mountain towns have photo (satellite) dates as old as three to four years back.

A less expensive way is to use a camera (video or still) mounted on a kite.
I've seen some really clear and amazing photos from a kite cam.
Here's a youtube video but search around on google you may find a better setup
