If you travel a lot, try to stick with a battery that is obtainable anywhere, so there warranty (for what it is) can handled were ever you are. Usually they will replace within a year. Costco would not be a good choice by me because I don't even know where their is a Costco. Would have to drive 3 hours to find one! Now Interstate, Deka, Exide, Johnson Controls, and so on are names I can find most anywhere. Store like Walmart, NAPA, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, with O’Reilly Auto Parts catching up quickly. Pep Boys is also coming on strong, but only has 723 stores in 35 states.

As to battery types, I would have opted for AGMs because of how they hold the charge, but the high price made me go for a popular maintenance free Deka battery at 1/4 the cost of the AGMs. Have two AGMs for coach batteries and 8Ds don't come cheap, but are so much better and I don't have to worry about messing around with wet cell maintenance!

Sorry, but Freightliner does not make batteries!!! Alliance is the private label parts arm of Freightliner, but they do not make batteries either. Freightliner/Alliance says the Exide RF31D is an equivalent battery to the AE8A31 and the Exide XRF31D equivalent to the AE931. So my guess would be Exide may make the Group 31 battery that you refer to labeled and licensed with the Freightliner name.

Don't overlook online order discounts. In December, 2011 I needed new cranking batteries for the 3126 Cat. Advance Auto Parts has truck and farm batteries at our local store, but not on display with the car batteries. They also honor the on-line discounts. I found an Advance Auto Parts on-line discount for $50 off any order of $200 or more. The two batteries were about $100 each, so final total with tax after using the coupon was $162 for two batteries that are rated equal to what I removed. I just looked and they currently are offering 20% discount up to max discount of $50.00.

If they are a group 31 stud top look for a Deka #
1131MF. They are rated @ 950 cca and 1140 ca and made in the USA. You should be able to find them for under $100.00 each exchange. Your old group 31st are worth $16.50 scrap value.

You are looking for the most CCA for starting, that would Optima Spiral batteries. My last set of two group 34 Optimas (starting a Caterpillar diesel) lasted a little over 9 years

Nope, but they sure do sell them. They are not Freightliner brand batteries. Got a great price and they did not smart mouth me
