Hi All... does anybody know of any nice camping spots between Dubuque, IA and Platteville, WI? We are currently looking at an Army Corps of Engineers park called "Grant River Recreation Area" that is on the WI side near Dickeyville. If you have ever stayed at the Grant River Park, we are curious how phone reception / 3G data for AT&T is there as one of the days we're camping my wife is required to work out of the camper and needs phone / data.

Any ideas of campgrounds / RV Parks, or things to do in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We were just at Rustic Barn campground in Kieler WI just north of Dubuque. Very nice 30 amp back in sites. Very, very tight pull through 50 amp sites.

Bathrooms were spotless, sites have water but no sewer. They have a dump station but will pump you out mid stay for $6.50. WIFI is decent and so is Verizon coverage, I don't know about AT&T. You are not allowed to bring firewood in but they have decent size bundles for $3.00.

The campground backs up to a dairy farm so you can expect a few flies and the occasional cow smell(we grew up on dairy farms so we felt at home).

We would return again without a doubt. I hope this is of some help.

We stayed there a couple years ago. Campground is good and cell phone worked fine.

There is two railroad tracks that go real near the park. There was a flood a few days before we got there that had the railroad shut down. They got things going just as we got to the park. The backlog must have been huge because it was very loud for the time we were there.

One of my favorite places to camp in all of Wisconsin is Governor Dodge State Park just north of Dodgeville. Nice swimming lake and close to House on the Rock too. I know it's not between Dubuque and Platteville, but it's not that much further. Probably fills up quick this time of year; maybe you can get a reservation ?

We have stayed at Grant River quite a few times. They have nice sites and most of them have concrete pads for your unit. They do have quite a few trains, but they have never kept us up at night. Also have stayed at Miller Riverview right behind the casino in Dubuque. You can beat the view. There is also a county park just outside of Dubuque - Swiss Valley which is very nice. Can't tell you about the phone service. I have Tracfone which works at all three of the parks.

What type of unit do you have? We have never stayed at Nelson Dewey, but have drive through. When we went the sites weren't too big.
