I have Coopers and am happy with them. They are American made.

I should have been more specific. I have American Coopers on the RV and on the ole Dodge van. I buy American made when I can. Two old Harleys, a Dodge van, a GM motorhome, etc.. All mostly American. American owned companies, shall we say.

Nevertheless, I trust American made tires. The one's that were on it when I bought were all imported and ka-pow! There is a code on Coopers that tells where it was manufactured. All of mine were made in Texarkana, Arkansas. Not that American tires wont blow. To me they just look like better tires and I feel more confident riding on them. The guy at the heavy truck place says they are good tires. He's never steered me wrong before.

If I could have bought Cooper tires for less than the Hankook AH-11 I did by. I would have bought them in a heart beat. Even if they cost a bit more. Never had a bad Cooper tire, ever.

Here is the requisite Michelin post. There are those that say there are less expensive tires than Michelin but no one has ever said they wish they hadn't bought Michelins.

For what it's worth, I recently bought a 33,000 lb 2004 Damon (with a 2003 Freightliner chassis) that had its' original tires on it (Michelin XZA1) that were produced in 2002. They looked to be in perfect condition but just about everyone agrees that 33,000 lbs should not run on tires older than 10 years. I'm thinking that very few (if any) other brand names could be inserted in the above story. I replaced with XZA2Energy all around using the FMCA Michelin Tire Advantage. Yes, they were still very expensive but I can go down the road (for years to come) with far fewer worries. And, if I do have a failure, it wasn't because I tried to save money at the risk of my wife and her husband.


I suspect MANY people whose XRV's failed wished they had not bought Michelins!

Thanks to all who gave their opinions and/or advice. The pro Cooper opinions came too late as I purchased the Hankook AH11's this morning.

I have run Michelins on every vehicle we've owned for over 20 years and never had a problem of any kind. I'll stick with Michelins. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

None of the manufacturers of new coaches, which are always trying to save a few pennies, are using tires other than Michelin or Goodyear on their coaches. Especially in tough times, when every cent counts, they are still using what has proven to them to be the best choice for their tires on their new coaches. Perhaps they feel that if their new/returning customers perceived that they cheaped out on tires that they also cheaped out on other items.

Or the converse could also be true. They install Michelin or Goodyear to give the appearance that they don't cut corners, when we all know that they do to save those pennies.
