Or a AGM.... It would seem that AGMs would be the best to put up there as they require no maintenance can be used upside down, sideways, etc.... but then out of sight can be out of mind too.. Just not sure I like the idea, but that's just me..

Couldn't you just tap into the harness going to the socket/plug feeding the camper?

That would be before the camper isolator.

My isolator is a solenoid in the engine bay. If your isolator is in the camper itself, you're right. That won't work, and connecting to a battery not physically in the camper would be a PITA (and I'm not talking about the bread)

Great way to donate a battery to thieves. Can't see how it would be a simple hookup to the internal converter(s) and camper battery or batteries. 8ga seems too light a gauge wire for the run from the battery to the converter and then there is the little matter of drilling another hole in the truck bed and making the connections each time the camper is put on the truck.

Good grief! So what the heck do you know that is theft proof?? The 'Club' won't even stop a thief - all they do is saw right through it.

I have built one similar in the past.
The one I built had a lip on top and two 5/16 all thread rod couplings welded to the top, horizontally. I then used an angle iron with a couple of tabs with 5/16 holes in it to correspond to the all thread rod couplings. This made the top adjustable so it could be tightened. The bottom was similar. Also, mine had to strips of Armaflex 2" x 1/8" insullating tape across it so that it didn't rub on the frame. I think they are a good idea and with modern batteries the mount is even a better idea. As far as theives, how many are going to look under there. Besides, put an alarm on the truck and any significant movement, the alarm will go off.
I don't like the idea of having a battery in a camper. We pulled out the battery from our 1969 Avion C-11 in the early 1970s. We installed two plugs for the camper, one for the regular truck plug and another that uses several terminals for + and several for -. With 3 sets of #10 wire, we have plenty of capacity. The last one I did, I just used two sets of #10 wire. That will drain a battery plenty quick.
Picture of a truck bed set up for my Avion. Notice the two plugs, one on each side, and the camper guides along with the camper forward stop.

If I had a battery mounted on one of those I would not worry about theft anymore than I would worry about someone stealing the spare tire.
Mike, chime in here with a pic of your 8D mounted under the frame. I think I remember you use a tranny jack to drop it to service.
