We are planning our first extended trip with our 27 foot Sprinter Travel Trailer to a friends home in West Dover, Vt. (Mount Snow). We have made this trip many times in the past with a car and our typical route has been Interstae 95 to route 91 which I have always found alittle boring. Typical time for this route has been 4.5-6 hours depending on traffic and weather. Now that we are heading up with the travel trailer I was hoping to take it alittle slower and change the view alittle. and have been looking at NY route 22 and than cut over to Vt. or Interstae 87 and than once again cut over to Vt. I am worried that Route 22 may be alittle too slow as my research shows it meandering through villages and small towns with average speed limits being 30 mph and route 87 I feel may be the same as the view seen on 95, (outskirts of cities, etc.) I don't mind adding another couple of hours to the trip but do not want to drag it out too long so any input would be greatly appreciated.

Route 22 is what you said, but the towns are small. 87 is again, just what you think it is. If you could tell us where you want to go in VT, could give you a lot more help. I lived there for 40 years so I think I know the roads and high points.

I am heading to West Dover, south Vermont and my usual route is 9 to route 100 off of 91. As mentioned I was hoping to eliminate Interstae 95 and Route 91 which in my opinion gets alittle boring but this may just be due to the amount of times driven. Unfortunately I have a feeling it will be the best route, my kids noses will more than likely be in their iphones and ipods but the wife and I would like to see some differnet views.

You said that - I'm running on back-up glasses right now, so please excuse.
I would not hesitate to take 22 - not sure where you can first pick it up, but it really is an OK ride and you will see a lot more of the country. Just for another different look, you might want to take Route 2 in Petersburgh, NY, which will take you over an pretty mountain road. You could follow 2 all the way to 91 in Greenfield,MA, it's called the Mohawk Trail and is a good road. Has some hills, but then again, so does 9. Otherwise, when you get to Pittsfield, MA you can take 7 north to Bennington and over 9 to Dover from that direction.

As you probably know from coming up 9 from Brattleboro, that route is the Molly Start Trail. http://www.mollystarkbyway.org/
Have a great trip. Any more questions, just ask.
