I bought the heavy duty model from tv4rv.com a year ago and am very pleased with it. I had a small cheap one before that was hard to accurately aim and would blow over in the wind.

The Lowe's roof antenna mount tripods are the best that I have used.

i built my own for about $10 and it works great.

bought a half sized concrete block, a 24 in pipe (the correct diameter for mounting the dish to it), pipe floor flange. bolt the pipe floor flange to the block. then screw in the pipe and mount dish. it is portable as you can unscrew the pipe, etc. velcroed a compass to the block (so i don't lose it) and glued a round level to the blocks surface. i then level it using wooden shims.

my friend who camps with us, saw mine and the next trip he had the same set up.
i got the idea from someone here on rv.net and he who even included a pic of the set up.

tv4rv.com here. Full time use for the past 2 years.

I would buy it again in a minute.

Slimline 3 LNB dish.

Lowes-Mennards-Home Depot all carry these tripods. They are heavy duty and have feet on the legs for staking down. The are actually made for roof mounts on houses. General price about $20.00.
I paid 35.00 for mine at RADIO SHACK. when I was out of town at a camp ground. Got back home and found a RADIO SHACK tri pod for 12.00. Same quality just less money.

The One I bought. Need to put it on Craigslist with a single LNB 18" dish I have.

been using the roof top tripod for years.

But if I was just starting I think the one from amazon would be the ticket since it already has the piece of pipe in it to mount the dish on.

I use an 18" piece of exhaust pipe stuck in the ground. It has worked for the last 7 years of fulltiming.
If you do get a tripod, keep it as short as possible. Something that will keep the dish as close to the ground as possible. With that you reduce the shake from tripods I see around the campgrounds that are 5' tall.

Might not look very stable but my umbrella stand has worked well for years and remained standing when others had blown over…
