I have never considered tiping a campground host. Most times they do little more than ride a golf cart to direct you to your site.

This past weekend we were at a campground in Bar Harbor, Maine. The host checked us in and then proceeded to show us to our site. When we got to the site he helped me unload the tow dolly and insisted on helping me push it to the rear of the site. He directed me while I backed in and helped hook up the utilities, all the while filling me in on local attractions, best restaurants, cheapest place to buy beer etc. (He and his wife are retired full timers, originally from Florida, and were the perfect example of southern hospitality and manners)

I was thinking about this guys customer service skills later on and it occurred to me that I tip bell-hops at hotels and get a heck of a lot less service and conversation.

This fellow and his wife were both working as hosts and if my memory serves me I recall that often the hosts are paid little more than a free campsite. This likely equates to less than minimum wage when you do the math.

So question is: Have I been a cheap son of a gun all these years for not parting with a few bucks when I get good service from a campground host? If tipping these folks is expected than I got a lot of catching up to do. I guess it just never occurred to me.

When I was hosting at IBSP, tipping was prohibited.

I did, however, accept a box of Girl Scout cookies from a troop who wouldn't take 'No thank you' for an answer.

I don't think tipping is required or expected......and I don't.

But there are those times when a 'thank-you' just doesn't seem to cover it.

When some one goes out of their way.....beyond the norm then I try and find a way of giving back.

Yes we do!

It really depends on the RV Park, how long we are staying and whether or not the recipient is deserving.

Some places it is a Cash Bonus other times it is a Meal at a Restaurant.

I have been known to drop off a bottle of wine to hostes who are helpfull. I live in wine country and always have some really good wine and don't mind sharing with some one who has helped me at a campground.

When we have had over the line of duty help,we have gotten gift cards from a local diner. Most refuse any offer, but the cards can be left under the windshield wiper when we leave. And even an invite to smores, camp pies, ect around the fire at night are good.

I like the idea of a bottle of wine or maybe even some flowers or maybe a gift card from WalMart or something like that. Sometimes, that's way more thoughtful and considerate than just a monetary tip.

We'd rather be out traveling, but I still work so we're part-timers.

I never have tipped a Host. They compete for those jobs to get free accommodations and apparently want to do what they are doing. I appreciate their presents, but have never had one help me do anything except empty the fire ring which I do not use. After all, we the "Camper" are the reason they even have jobs. Is any one going to tip you for coming to their facility to spend money?

We carry products from our home state to give as gifts. For example, Bone Suckin' Sauce
