We're retired and always stay home on holiday weekends. It avoids the crowds. Two days later, the kids are in school and you get your choice of campsites.
I always take note when someone says they want to avoid the crowds of holiday weekends. Around here, the state CG's are full every weekend so there's nothing different about camping on a holiday. Is it not like that everywhere?
We'll be at Rasar State CG in Wa.

First time in 3 years we decided to go somewhere on one of the holidays ... so going to Whitewater State Park near Liberty, Indiana. FYI ... we got the very LAST electric site that was not already reserved! I'm normally one that avoids the holidays and do back-yard camps. But, we decided to break-out this time.

You made a reservation how many months ago? We gave up on most WA State parks years ago. Just can't plan a year in advance to get a spot...I suppose we could reserve and cancel if need be but just seems more trouble than its worth. Have fun at Rasar, we have friends that really enjoy that park.
To answer the OP's question...we are also staying at home...leaving on the following Thursday for Twisp.

Same here where I go. WHile holiday weekends are a bit busier, all summer long the weekends are extremely full so for me I don't see a whole lot of difference.
And I don't mind the holiday crowds. I just try to avoid driving at the peak times when the roads are the most backed up.
Well, let's see... If you're ever around Moss Lake in N.C., there's a city park with FHU's. It offers good value for $100 per/wk. Think I'll head down in the morning to the Strom Thurmond Lake area near Augusta, Ga. A 3 hour drive. Several C.O.E. parks down there with 1/2 price camping for "geezers" and surely, there's at least one walk-in site I can snag for a week or two and make it through the Labor Day weekend. Then, on to N. FL. for a new grand daughter, expected the third week of Sept. From there, headed to Fl.'s "horse farm country" to hook up with my sister who is flying in from out west. After a two week visit, no plans. Might just winter there. I'll tell ya... this full timing is rough on the schedule.
