My husband and I truly love to go RVing. We're a few years away from retiring, so right now most of our get aways are weekends or extended weekend trips. So we travel (usually) within 2-3 hours from our home. I am finding that there are still lots of choices within a 3 hour radius and of course, we now have a few favorite spots too. Since we live on the west coast, our radius is shortened a bit by the Pacific Ocean. But it is a very nice ocean to camp by!
I've had the pleasure of organizing numerous RV.net rallies and always in the midst of planning another! If you've not been to a rally, I highly recommend trying one out, they are lots of fun!
