RE: Disappointed in Cummins Engine

Bottom line it's a machine and machines can and do fail. All we can do is care for it as best we can and hope for the best.

RE: Tire Replacement on Class A Goodyear or Michelin

Here's my 2 cents worth. My first coach had XRV's and I had 2 zipper blow outs, my second coach had XRV's and I had a blow out. Since I run Michelin on all my other vehicles I put 6 new Michelin's on the coach but put on XZE's and haven't regretted it. With the XZE's I can run lower pressure to carry the same weight which gives a softer ride. Mileage isn't really an issue with RV tires so for me it boils down to what I have the most confidence in and for me it's Michelin. Good luck with your decision.

RE: 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire

The 2000 MADP I believe came with an ISC Cummins at 350 HP and 1150 lbs. torque, not the ISM.
I could be mistaken about the ISM. I thought that was what was embossed on the engine when looking the coach over.
My 2001 has the ICS. We enjoy ours, Newmar makes a good coach.

Sometimes you just gotta wonder

Our first trip of the year, headed to Sycamore Lodge for a long weekend. Got checked in and headed to the site a full hookup with 50 amp, only our second time at the"RESORT" that we have had full hookup, but that's another story. Got parked hooked up and found we had nothing but 12 volt power. Checked everything found nothing so I got my 30 amp adapter and everything turned on. Guess I spend a half hour searching. Later we took the furchildern for a walk and stopped by the office to let them know the 50 amp socket wasn't working only to find out that they already knew but didn't find it important to let us know. Yet another reason i'm not impressed with the"RESORT"

RE: First trip ever, heading to Florida... best route

Best route would be I77 to Columbia SC, I26 to I95 then south to St Augustine. There are some steep grades around Charleston WV and another spot in VA and N Carolina. Main thing to remember is DON'T ride your brakes. Use a lower gear and take it slow. Where to stop depends on how many miles you want to drive. Columbia would be about half way. Campgrounds, Wally World, Truck stops, aplenty the choice is yours. Have a great trip.

RE: Changed my power steering fluid yesterday!

Question; Why the heck do they recommend changing the power steering fluid annually?
Probably the same reason motorcycle manufacturers recommend changing fork oil.

RE: Spartan Chassis Wandering?

You said you recently purchased the coach. How many miles have you driven it, has your driving always been in windy conditions? Get used to the coach everyone one I have owned drove different and once I got used to each ones differences I was comfortable. Give it a little time, unless of course you have extra money to support your local repair shop. Good luck with it

RE: headlights not bright

Chances are it's a poor ground. Check the ground even if it appears good take it loose clean it and use a dielectric grease. I'd bet that's your problem.

RE: Hankooks good? But made in China?!?

China is the Japan of the fifties and sixties. We all complained about the Japanese junk back them only to see those products produced in Japan today as some of the most respected in the world. You can get poor quality even from a leader in the tire manufacturing, ie; Michelin and the XRV.

RE: Bay door

Look under the compartment, most of the latches latch to a U bolt. take off the 2 nuts holding the U bolt and the door should swing open.

RE: '05 Holliday Rambler Endeaver 40 with 91000 mi.-too high ?

Diesels and the chassis they are in are built for the long haul. It's not uncommon to see tractor engine with a 1,000,000 miles with few problems. They like any other engine has to have been maintained properly, that beening said repairs on diesels do cost more. If the coach is right for you then go for it. It does however seem a bit pricey to me but I'm not familar with the prices north of the border. What ever you deside best of luck.

RE: Air ride and leveling... Dump air bags before or not?

Our current coach has automatic leveling that dumps the air before it starts putting the jacks down to level. If you have a manual system like my previous coach I would always dump the air and then level. Reason; the ride height on it was high, to level before dumping would extend the jacks way more than needed on a level site and there were times on unlevel sites that I ran out of jack height before the coach was level.

RE: Air bags

Start rig
bring in slides
retract jacks
We hit the "jack rabbit" button (airbag fill) once the air pressure has passed 65 pounds and the low air alarm has stopped.
Don't have to wait for the jacks to retract completely.
Guess I learned something. I had a 2000 coach on a Freightliner chassis didn't have a "jack rabbit" button. Neither that coach or our current will move the slides with the engine running. Goes to show ya there are plenty of differences between coachs.

RE: owning a DP motorhome not all it's cracked up to be

Sorry to hear about your problems. You have to keep in mind that a diesel engine is still a mechanical thing that is subject to breakdown, it's something you just can't get way from.

RE: Air bags

I have never heard of an air bag "fill" switch. Mine does from time to time take a little longer to fill. Once I am ready to shove off I start the engine and do a final walk around to make sure I haven't forgotten anything, by then the bags are up and we are ready to go.
