RE: CrossRoads Cruiser & Open Range

I currently have a CrossRoads Cruiser (29RK) that was purchased new in 2005. In my opinion CrossRoads provides a great unit for the cost. Their (CrossRoads) after sale factory service is second to none. I had the occasion to deal with the factory on a couple of issues and they always went the extra mile to assure my satisfaction. I can't speak to the value of the Open Range as I have no experience there. Check out the CrossRoads web site (forums). I think you will be impressed with all of the positive comments concerning their products in general and their customer service. See you out there, Robert

RE: looking for place between Truckee and L.A. area

I have taken both routes and I like the 395 South option. Plenty of sights to take in. Although, there is a section of the highway North of Mono Lake where you will be on the outside (cliff) of the road for a short time. It is not really that bad and only takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Just watch your downhill speed. I have traveled this route many times with my 5th wheel. You might want to take a look at Bodie(sp?) It's a ghost town with a lot of history. The access road is paved for the most part with a few miles of very good dirt/gravel road closer to the town. The road may be paved all the way to Bodie by now. Also, the June Lake Loop is nice if you want a little side trip. Great fishing on the Loop as well. Robert

RE: My redneck rain gutter extensions

Very nice. I want four. How much are you asking for them? Do they come assembled or with detailed instructions? LOL. :W Robert

RE: Dometic fridge/freezer troubleshoot question

My guess is that it does need 12 volt DC. Easy enough to hook up if connection terminals are there. Robert

RE: Lost mouse

Have you tried restarting your computer? If that doesn't help, uninstall the software, restart, and then try reloading the software. Robert

RE: It finally happened!

Sorry about your troubles. You might want to check with the station to see the event was caught on video. If so ask them to save it for you. Robert

RE: Re-jetting Honda EU2000i Generator for high altitude

I have two EU2000's and carry two or three different sized jets. I have always been a 'what if' or 'just in case' kind of person when it comes to being prepared. I may never use these extra jets however they are cheap enough to have if needed and as posted, easy enough to change. I live at sea level have camped as high as about 10,000 feet. Although I have not had to use my Honda's at the 10,000 mark, I have used them at around 8,000 feet. I found that I was not able to use the micro wave using ONE generator at 8,000 feet. In my case, I simply added the second generator to the mix. This was obviously easier than changing the jets. Of course if you only have one generator, changing the jet would make sense. I also think that using the proper jetting at the higher altitudes would probably improve fuel use and air quality as the mixture would not be too rich. This would be more of an issue for those that use generators or a regular or extended run time bases. See you out there, Robert

RE: CLOSE "NEIGHBORS"

A little off topic, but related...... My wife and I were on the road in our fifth wheel and when we were about five or six hours out from our intended overnight stop, we called ahead to confirm that there were spaces available. Well, as we thought, there were plenty of spaces available as it was mid week and off season. In fact, there were so many spaces that they (the office) did not even bother to take our reservation. When we arrived at the park we noted that there were about thirty spaces taken. Keep in mind that this park has 260 spaces. Anyway, we check in and head to our assigned space. I had to laugh when I saw that our assigned space was one of about ten in the entire park that had a very large (above ground) electrical vault. I could see that there was no way that we would be able to extend our slides in the space. No problem, plenty of other spaces. So, back to the office for reassignment. Our new site was fine, more or less isolated with easy access. Shortly after setting up, another fifth wheel pulls into the space next to us and begins to set up. Now, I don't really care that they were next to us, but I have always wondered why they were given that spot. There was nothing special about it. I really wanted to ask the person in the office about it, but I didn't want them to think I was a PITA. Perhaps a former or current park owner or employee can enlighten me. As it turned out the folks next to us were pretty lost when it came to set up (I think they borrowed the fifth wheel) and both my wife and I were able to assist them with several issues. I have considered that the person in the office may have figured that they may need some help setting up and reasoned that they should be parked close to assistance. As to the OP's question, I am thinking along the lines of another poster.... the area was level. See you out there, Robert

RE: one stove top burner does not light

Are you trying to light it with an outside source (match) or a built-in igniter? Do you smell propane when the burner is on?

RE: Electrical Problem - no 110 power

When you are checking the 110 volt breakers, turn them all the way off and then back on. Also, check for tripped GFI's. Let us know when you find the problem. On edit: Any chance that your transfer switch (shore to generator) is in the off position? Robert

RE: Progressive Surge Protection---Cheapest Price---Where?

I just did a Google search under "Progressive Industries" & found that RVupgrades.com had a little better price than Tweety. I don't know how their shipping compared though. Dave I bought mine from RVugrades as well. I didn't shop around very long, but they did have the best price (including shipping) of the place's I checked. Also, Rvupgrades had good communications and prompt delivery. Robert

RE: Running Speaker Wire

I did something similar with some wiring that I added for some additional lighting. I installed some warning lights (marker lights with flasher) to display when my living room slide is out while parked on the street. (at home for projects and maintenance) The light are mounted on the slide out which presents the slack wire issue. I compensated for the slack wiring (when the slide is in) by using a light spring (about two feet when compressed. Where the spring attaches to the wires, I added some flexible tubing for protection of the wires. It works like a charm. The spring is fixed a both ends and the connection with the wiring is in the middle. You will have to experiment with the spring placement and desired tension. I want to add some speakers one day myself and I will use the same method. I may even be able to use the same spring set up. I hope this helps. Robert

RE: Fridge worked before I left.

The board is probably in the back. If it's like my Dometic, the PC board is in a black box that measures about 3'" by 5." There are two fuses in there. You may want to unplug the unit before you stick you fingers in there.

RE: Run gen while on road?

Okay, I give. But what if........... just kidding. Thanks for the class. I think I can sleep now. :) It's sort of like the old Thermo's bottle joke, I know that it works for both hot and cold, but how does it know? LOL. See you out there, Robert

RE: Run gen while on road?

"So, the 120vac from the generator is not in the mix, except indirectly via the converter or inverter." Thanks Airstreamer67. My concern was not the 120 AC, I understand the converter, inverter mix. I guess I am more concerned that one would sense the DC voltage (charge) of the other and read that incoming charge as the state of the battery. I guess if that were the case the charging sources would constantly be searching and the result would be little or no actual net charge. This is why I thought that it might be better to defeat (switch off) one of the charging sources, probably the one from the alternator, I would think, as the converter would be the superior charging source. Maybe I am over thinking this? Thanks again, Robert

RE: Replacing Thermostat

Do a search for "Hunter Thermostats." You will find plenty of information on this subject. No, you don't need a special thermostat, but certain models are required. You need one that has it's own power supply (AA battery). I think I got mine at Wal-Mart or Home Depot. Easy mod and the results are well worth the effort. Robert On edit: Yes, what "downtheroad" posted below.

RE: Run gen while on road?

One thing that I am curious about. If I were to (while towing) run my portable generator to supply 110 to my 5th wheel for whatever reason, wouldn't that create some sort of conflict (potential problem) with the charging of my house battery due to the fact that the truck alternator is also throwing a charge to the same battery? I have a feeling that something would have to "give" and the result would be costly. I am thinking that it would be necessary to either interrupt the tow vehicles alternator connection or the converters connection to the 5th wheel house battery. Does anyone out there have any experience with this situation? Thanks, Robert
