RE: why alcoa wheels?

I think weight is a factor for manufacturers to consider when putting a mh together. I have aluminum wheels installed when ordering a garbage truck because of the weight savings. I always calculate that an aluminum wheel is almost 25lbs lighter than steel so I can save 50lbs on the front axle, 50lbs on the tag and 100lbs on the drive axle so that is 200lbs more garbage I can haul which adds up over the years. Aluminum wheels on a motorhome give you just that much more you can pack into the pantry. Plus they look *****in.

Since you are also planning on visiting the Coast I also recommend Pheasant Ridge. Paul

RE: oregon in august

Just my thoughts on the 3 choices of RV parks. They are located in different areas so I would personally chose a park that is centrally located to the activities you are planning. Jantzen Beach is located at the north end of the Portland Metro area and can be a real pain do to daily I-5 conjestion in that area. The other two parks are futher south down the Willamette Valley. Willamette Wine Country is located in Dayton (near McMinnville) and is a great location for a "home base". It is further from I5 than the other 2 so trips up and down the Valley will take longer. Pheonix is in Salem, not far from I5 and central to many things up and down the Willamette Valley. There are a lot of interesting things to do and see in Oregon and the Willamette Valley so enjoy your visit. Paul

RE: Hwy 101 in northern CA and OR

It is very doable. I go to Eureka every summer in my 36ft MH towing a 24ft enclosed trailer for a drag race. Just mind the curve signs and slow bumps ahead signs. It is a great route with lots of places to visit. Paul

RE: My first motorhome. Thanks for the help

Congradulations! That is a great looking coach. I like the light colored paint schemes over the darker full body paints. If your driving it down hwy 101 through south Tillamook County honk your horns when you pass through Hebo. Paul

RE: Help me narrow it down please. We are ready to buy :)

As a fellow Oregonian I would check out Beaver Motorcoach Sales in Bend and DeMartini in Northern California. They both seem to have quality used motorhomes that are close to home. I don't work for either but know that DeMartini seems to have a great selection and Beaver Motorcoach Sales has a great repair facility with veteran motorhome workers. The RV Corral in Eugene is always eager to work a deal. When looking for an older coach I would recommend looking for one that has been upgraded ie. TV's, inverter/chargers etc.. Good Luck on your search. Paul

RE: Oregon Coast in December. Favorite RV Parks?

In Pacific City you have Kiwanda RV Park. It is across the street from the beach, they have cable and WIFI plus an indoor swimming pool. Paul

RE: Mistake in the NorthWest

As others have said you are pretty much stuck in this Northwest climate. Since you will be leaving your MH in Eugene for some work in January I would travel east over the Cascades or south over the Siskoyus (sp). You could get stuck on the other side by mountain snows and not able to make your appointment in Eugene on time. Just something to keep in mind. Paul

RE: Problems and than real problems!!!

The brakes on the flatbed trailer must have over heated and started the fire. I don't see how the Smart Car could have been the problem. Paul

RE: custer state park buffalo roundup

My wife and I attended this event 2 years ago and it was great. Yes, there is a big crowd and the drive through the park to the viewing area is slow and congested but it was a spectacular event to witness. We stated just outside Custer at Broken Arrow RV park and it was very fun there. Paul

RE: From gas to Diesel

Coach parts should never be a problem. Interior items can be repaired or replaced by something else. Body work can be repaired and glass items replaced. Of course, appliances are always available as OEM or upgrade. Paul

RE: From gas to Diesel

I only mention that there may be a difference in engines to help explain the asking price gap between the two motorhomes. Another reason could be that Fleetwood went into bankruptcy, then reorganized eliminating their highend models (Revolution being one of those) and Tiffin didn't. So, the Revolution may have the "orphan" stigma attached to it. Just speculating. There is nothing wrong with either motorhome as long as everything checks out ok on them. Paul

RE: From gas to Diesel

You say they both have Cummins engines but what engines are they. Check the engine models and if there is a difference in HP and Torque. I don't know the answer but the Fleetwood may have the ISC Cummins and the Tiffin an ISL Cummins. The transmissions could be different also.

RE: Bio Fuel Thoughts

In Oregon there is a percentage of bio diesel in the regular diesel, I don't know the percentage. I run a garbage company and we have an above ground 500 gal diesel storage tank that we fuel our trucks from. The fuel filter on the tank, over the past years has been needing to be changed more frequently due to it becoming clogged until it finally got to the point where it had to be changed every month. I called our fuel distributer to find out why the filters where clogging and did I need a different style of filter. He told me that my filters were fine that this is a common problem. He told me it was a result of bio diesel being added to the diesel and that it's moisture content was high which was causing diesel algee. The distributer came out and treated my fuel tank and now adds an additive (8oz.) during each fuel drop. That has solved my clogged filters issue, so far. We are also experiencing higher fuel consumption in our route trucks even though the routes are the same as they have alway been. I do not like bio diesel because it is costing me more money to do the same job that we have always done. Paul

RE: Traveling from Portland to Bend Oregon

I agree with hwy 22 out of Salem. I travel that route several times a year and I have only had severe conjestion problems in Sisters once, Quilting Festival. The only other real bad time would be the Sisters Rodeo. I like hwy 22 because of the ease of climb and the beauty of the drive. Paul
