Traveling in the Redrocks Country

Spent 5 days hiking and traveling in the Moab, Ut area of Fisher Towers, Canyonlands, and Deadhorse Point State Park. Great weather and of course wonderful scenery.
Stayed at Horsethief Campground and Kayenta Campground at Deadhorse State Park.

RE: New shocks for '06 GMC Sierra 1500HD?? (Rear end bounce)

You may want to check into installing Timbrens. They have made a huge difference on my 2500HD hauling a Wolf creek TC.

You might want to check your spelling of "slick".

RE: License plates from truck to TC and back again, and again.

I made a color copy of the rear plate and laminated it.
:E
You must have nerves of steel- it's illegal EVERYWHERE to duplicate a license plate!
While I understand the logic here, I'd sure hate to try to explain it to a Stater who was having a bad day or just didn't like the cut of my jib for some reason...
Maybe he spent a lot of time where they were made originally!

RE: 2013 Silverado 2500 HD

There is very little one can do to enhance the horsepower of the 6.0. GM pays their engineers big bucks to design and build their units. If there was anything to be done they would have done it.
If you need more horsepower you should have done more research and bought the 6.6.

RE: Torklift Stair hand rail

fuelhauler, the hand rail is my design and seems to work well up to this point. I did talk to Northwood about the Torklift hand rail and they indicated there was really no portion of the camper that I could affix the Torklift hand rail.

Torklift Stair hand rail

My 5 step stairs into my Wolf creek are a bit steep for my spouse so I devised this mod. The carpeted stairs is so my skeptical Golden, Mr. Bailey cannot see through the steps and freekout!

I will be in the Moab area during the 1st week of May. Wondering if it is possible to get a camping spot at Willow Flat Campground. I see it is first come first served. Anyone know what my chances are if I get their early?
Any other recommendations would be appreciated. I will be in a truck camper.

RE: Can I safely tow it with a 2003 Suburban 2500?

My 2005 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 with 6.0 and 410.1 Rear end towing a 6000lb loaded TT did well in Colorado. I always had just one passenger, an 85 lb Golden and most of the time around 250 lb in truck bed. I believe you will be O K. You will be slow over the passes so will have to gear down and be satisfied with a lower speed.
Keep the TT as light as possible even to the point if you don't need a lot of water until you get to where you are going.

My advise is to get online right now and make reservations at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. CheyenneMtn

RE: 6.0 chev...2500hd...Anyone haul TC ...??

I also have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 410.1. I recently purchased a Wolf Creek camper and have installed Timbrens. They work quite well and I am satisfied with my setup to this point. I haven't used the unit very much as yet only one trip so will evaluate it's performance as I use it more this late spring and summer.

RE: Equal i zer Hitch Question

I never used the pry bars. I think they are a very good way of hurting yourself. Get some blocks for your tongue jack and raise the tongue high enough to get your bars on by hand.
I have an equal-I-zer hitch that I don't use and bet I could beat Adventurerv.net price.

RE: TC vs TT Opinions

I just went from a TT to a truck camper. This is my 10th rig and I was tired of towing. There are a lot of adjustments to be made going from a TT or FW to a camper so be prepared to do without a lot of "Stuff" you carried in your TT. It's like now I'm "Camping".

RE: Trip Report: Weekend in Tucson

Mike, Gilbert Ray is a great campground. Have camped there several times in the past.
I enjoyed seeing your pictures. Tucson is a great location at this time of year.
One thing I did notice in the picture of the rear of your camper was the steps attached and closed. Do you carry the steps that way when traveling? I was told by Torklift and Northwood that it was not recommended on our 20111-12 Wolf Creeks.

RE: Truck Prep For TC

Depending on the camper you have chosen there may be more you will need to do to beef up your truck. It doesn't take too much of a camper to put some serious stress on OEM suspension.
My first option was to install Timberns and upgraded E load range tires one size larger than OEM tires.

RE: Libility and collision insurance for Truck Camper

Will I put my agent to the test and he found that the truck insurance does not cover the camper unless it is $1000.00 or less. Sure glad I pursued this issue and not believed the national office of Allstate.
Anyhow I elected $500.00 deductible and it is only $120.00 per year.
I think I can handle that.

Libility and collision insurance for Truck Camper

I have inquired with my insurance company as to whether or not I need insurance coverage on my new Truck Camper. The main office tells me no but my agent says yes.
What's your take on this issue those of you who are veteran Truck Campers?
