RE: GPS

Hello.
I've saved this thread for future reference and now that we're in the market for a GPS, we'd like to know your final word on these GPS.
The 3450LM is expensive, has it been worth it?
Do any or all of these show satellite maps while on the trail? I think that's the most important thing, since I like to use my phone's Google Satellite maps, to find our way while riding.
Thank you for the update.

RE: Craigs list to try and sell a motorhome

We choose NOT to use an email address, and only a phone number. It has been our experience that scammers prefer to email, although not exclusively.
For us it helps tremendously. Putting our phone in the ad, helps weed out the losers and dreamers. We still get some, but not as much. It's a lot easier for them to email ridiculous offers, than for them to actually call and embarrass themselves.
Nothing is perfect, but we prefer this method for those reasons. And no matter what, deal locally. Someone from "out of state" wants it, come see it in person and offer me cash, otherwise no deal over the phone.

RE: traveling with others

If you do, definately do the "do-your-own-thing" thing. Tell your friends that it'll help with a "continued" friendship. Maybe have "final destination" be the same campground, but neither should force anything on anyone. Everyone should do what they want, unless both just happen to want to do the same thing on a particular day. Even so, everyone should do it at their own pace.
We just got back from a 4k mile trip with family, it was an awesome trip. Dealing with each other wasn't as bad as I imagined, but still bad.
End result; "Never Again!"

RE: Couch cushions

I'm going to try the cabinet liner. If it doesn't work, I'll have to take it to a shop to have them sew some velcro on.
For those that do have velcro, does it work? Do your cushions stay put?
I'd hate to spend the $$ on it, and be back where we started.
Do you do it on back rests too or just on the back of the "seat" cushions?
It just annoys me to see the kids practically falling off the dinette seats.

RE: Why Coachnet

Reading good reviews about coachnet is what got us to sign up.
We signed up right before leaving for our Memorial Weekend trip, but we still haven't received any paper work on it. Do they mail anything?
We just have their confirmation code saved with their phone number on our contacts.

RE: Cheapest Fuel

We left Arizona to Yellowstone, then on to Seattle, and back home through California and Nevada. I used gas buddy app on my phone and always got the best price. Thankfully all the cheap gas stations were never out of the way. The cheapest was $3.09 in Oregon.
It wasn't a hassle at all. I like using the map feature and just stop at the gas stations on our route and plan accordingly. On the phone app, if you click directions, it'll tell you how many miles away you are, so you can plan ahead when you will need gas. We definitely saved a lot. Some places had $4.00 gas and we were able to skip those places for cheaper gas.

RE: Yellowstone to Canada

We ended up driving to Port Angeles and taking the ferry to Victoria. We spent a few hours walking and made the trip back at 7:30. We had a wonderful time. Thanks for the tip.

RE: Camp/Riding near Flagstaff?

64Thunderbolt, is that more of a fall/winter ride?
We ended up rv'ing 8 western states, instead of riding in Flagstaff. May still go riding at the end of summer.

How much time does the ferry do? Is it a day trip or should we plan to spend the night?

We're driving toward I -90 for Olympia. We don't mind the drive, but looking for the best route /city to cross for the sightseeing trip.
Thank you.

Yellowstone to Canada

We just left Yellowstone and we're heading to Olympia, WA.
Some of us want to cross into Canada, just for fun. But some in the group are not prepared, and don't have passports.
So, our question is this, what would be a good town or city, where we could walk across and leave others on the US side?
Something with shopping on both sides of the border, and hopefully not too far out of our way.
Thank you.

RE: Adding a Digital Volt Meter to show battery state of charge

Yeah, I'll have to order it. I was hoping to get it installed before we left Sunday.
At least it'll be here when we return in a few weeks!
Thank you, mikebo.

Thanks. I was hoping someone would know where to find those. But if not, we'll Just get one of those tester types from HB.

RE: Magnetek 6345 Converter :(

What if we just keep using the smart charger, and not replace the converter?
Is that what you're doing Mr.Wizard? I assume you leave it on when parked?

What local store might have a digital meter?
We're leaving Sunday, too soon to order off eBay.
Thanks.

RE: Magnetek 6345 Converter :(

Which or What kind of converter do you guys recommend, what should we look for? I know there's an online place that gets mentioned a lot, but what if we decide to replace before we leave?
Should any RV store carry a decent converter?
Or are these better converters only carried online?
Also, is there such a thing as plug and play with converters? Or does it require a lot of rewiring?
Oh, my.... Sorry for all the questions.
BTW, Amazon is delivering a B&D smart charger 40amp, today. Only $10 more to deliver locally same day. I looked online and couldn't figure out who would sell it. I would probably spend more on gas trying to find it.
Thanks again!

RE: Magnetek 6345 Converter :(

Thanks, Don.
Can that charger stay connected all the time? It'll just run, while genny's on. We think we know where to store it.
How do you charge (where do the clamps go) dual 6v batteries?

Magnetek 6345 Converter :(

Okay, we're getting ready to leave for a few weeks on Sunday.
We're wanting to boondock a lot, so we went and bought 2 6v batteries. Our "old" dual 12v batteries, were not charging or so we tought.
I came here looking for info on our Converter, and I come to find that this converter will not fully charge our batteries. "Converter is Junk," is what I read.
So our batteries might have been good.
Replacing the converter is our best option I guess, but that'll be a question for later.
In such short notice, how can we keep our batteries charged? How much will our RV Alternator charge, if any?
Can we use a separate battery charger? If so, DH wants to know how do you charge them? Do they need to be disconnected?
Thank you.

RE: Phoenix to Yellowstone or Mt Rushmore?

After doing some more reading, we're thinking of stopping at the Grand Canyon, Grand Staircase National Monument (worth it? Any thoughts on it? Pics look nice) then Bryce Canyon. From Bryce Canyon we're taking the scenic Utah Highway 12. From here we could back track to Salt Lake and on to Yellowstone, or according to Google, head on to Denver and continue our trip to Rushmore.
Can anyone verify this as an appropiate RV route?
Another issue I have is, in my mind it would be much better to arrive at Yellowstone mid week (we're leaving Arizona Sunday), to have a better chance of landing an RV Park.
But heading to Denver, seems the better choice for driving.
Suggestions from experienced RVers will be greatly appreciated.

I hope we get lucky! :D
We're leaving this weekend. Was thinking of skipping Grand Tetons, but seems like a bad idea.
