RE: SNAG....**UPDATE***seller wants deposit to his account...

Agree with all the previous posts. There's no real reason you have to do things his way. Once he has your $, what's to stop him from hooking up the rig and taking off? Just tell him the way YOU do business and if he doesn't like it, find another sucker - opps, I mean buyer. I'm sure the rig is great and the price is fair, but in the market today you'll probably find something even better if this doesn't go the right way. Be strong and follow your gut feelings.

RE: asheville in december

Thanks for the info. The rockslide won't effect our visit - we're coming from Myrlte Beach, SC and don't have to go that far on I 40. Sounds like we have little to worry about!

asheville in december

DH and I are planning a 5 day trip to Asheville area in mid December. How concerned should we be about the possibility/probability of snow or icy road conditions? Our TT is insulated, but the underside (where the pipes are) is not. Is it too cold to use our RV in the area in December??? Has anyone camped in this area at this time of year? If so, any suggestions on where to camp? Thanks in advance for your help.

williamsburg in december

We are thinking of Williamsburg just before Christmas. Any suggestions on which cg in the area is best when the weather is cold? We have a TT with slide out and have done cold weather camping before. Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

RE: Myrtle Beach

What matters most is where are you going to be once you get to MB? That can help determine which way you want to go to get there. This is how we get to MB off of I - 95: Take I-95 South all the way to Exit 13 in NC. You will pick up Route 74 East, towards Whiteville and Wilmington. After about 30 miles on Rt 74 East, take Rt 410 south to end, turn right and pick up Rt 701 Bypass South towards Tabor City and Myrtle Beach. Take Rt 701 South to South Carolina Rt. 9 South. Take Rt 9 South to Rt. 31 South. From there, you can get to almost every CG in the Grand Strand area, and the Grand Strand area is very spread out. We have made the trip on 95 from NJ many, many times and have found this route the easiest, most relaxing and actually quickest way to get from the interstate to the Grand Strand. It cuts off more than an hour from our normal time. Almost never any traffic. Feel free to PM for more info.

RE: New Ca. state park camping fee

Never been out west, but how do these rates compare to privately owned parks??? On the east coast, particularly in the Northeast, many private parks are over $50/night for hookups. During peak season here in the Myrtle Beach area, private ocean front parks charge as much as $90/night!!! State parks here with full Hook ups (which are hard to find!) average $25/night. Water and Electric, $18-20.

RE: Need info on best way

You're talking some real costs with the I 95/bridge tunnel/Cape May Ferry route. www.capemaylewesferry.com will give you info on the ferry. We wouldn't go that route.

RE: Campfire cooking

Get yourself a good cast iron dutch oven. You can do so much with it, including baking! There are several great sites on the internet to help you learn how to make it work. It's easy, it's fun, and the food tastes great.

RE: Reviews

Don't know if you have looked, but I use www.rvparkreviews.com often. It helps me when I am going to an area I am unfamiliar with.

RE: Screen rooms - how much of a problem are they?

Any more time than a short weekend, it goes up. New ones do take 2 people but are a snap to put up and take down. As far as storage goes, no problem. We keep ours on the floor of the TT when traveling, and just take it out when we arrive at our destination. If we don't use it, it fits under the rig easily.

RE: James Island Co. RV Park Chareston, SC

We live close and are able to enjoy this wonderful CG often. If anyone gets the opportunity, definitely take in the Holiday festival of lights. It begins November 13 and lasts until Jan 3rd this year. Only $10 a carload of people with all kinds of fun things for adults and kids to enjoy while you're there. It gets very, very crowded on weekends, so a week night visit is suggested. Hard to get camping ressies for these weekends, but it can happen (cancellations happen all the time). It's also a Good Sam park if that matters.

RE: Harpers Ferry/Manassas/Gettysburg

Just check out "gettysburg" in "Search" for a lot of info on campgrounds in that area. Don't know if a pool would do you much good this time of year in that area.

RE: Anyone watch Ken Burns, Nat. Parks on PBS

Ken Burns is a national treasure. From his first work on the Civil War to Baseball to Jazz to National Parks, he's a person who helps us all appreciate the country we call home. Thanks Ken Burns for your talent, your dedication, and your creativity.

RE: Charleston S.C.

Honestly depends on what you are planning on doing. Have camped in all three CGs mentioned and enjoyed each one, although would have to say James Island is the best - also the farthest from Charleston. Closest is probably KOA, if the historic area is your goal. Also on that side of the rivers is Patriot Point, a navy museum with WWII sub, carrier, etc. So much to do in the area. Have been there many times. If you have any questions, feel free to PM.

RE: baby proofing the doors?

Really like the idea of the baby latch. Will give it a try. Again, thanks everyone for the ideas.

RE: baby proofing the doors?

Thanks for the suggestions. Think we will use the slide latch and reinforce the screen so little guy can't push that out. Again, thanks.

RE: Maryland State Park CG's... No alcohol

Guess it means a red plastic up or a good coozie to cover the can! SC also has the rule for it's state parks. As has been said, don't make the Rangers react to you and there will be no problems. Act like a fool with a can of beer in your hand, and wave your camping privileges good bye!

Cudos! Don't know what made you upset, but we can all learn from a gentleman like yourself how to admit our flaws.

baby proofing the doors?

Our grandson, now almost 10 months, is with us often when we are in our TT. Apparently the screen doors don't take much to push open (I caught him just as he was about to topple out of the door, head first, right down the steps onto the rocks!) Any suggestions on the best way to make them so the metal door can be open while the screen is shut (the lock was on, but it's useless). We like fresh air over the AC, but as it is now we have to keep the heavy doors closed whenever he is with us. Thanks in advance for your ideas.

RE: Good Sam Badges

Yes, we are lifetime members. Don't know why the symbol doesn't show up for us, but either way it doesn't matter at all to us. Much ado about far too little, IMHO. They already have all of our info and probabaly have sold it to other for profit companies, that's why we get so much junk mail re: camping. I guess it might bother others, but we've got other things to focus on.
