RE: Winterizing Problem

I see no reason to push in on that valve, I did it a couple of times in the past, because I heard that you should. It is always full of antifreeze after winterizing as are the low point drains. After I pump antifreeze through all my lines and get pink coming out everywhere, toilet, shower head, hand sprayer, etc. I shut off the pump and call it quits. This takes around 2 1/2 gallons each year. I leave that valve alone. Ed

RE: Dual LP Tanks Question

Now, may I ask just exactly WHY you feel it needful to take such an intense interest in how others do things that have absolutely NO impact on you or your family? mowermech, Sorry if I offended you or anyone else, I just got carried away with my way of doing things and I choose the wrong words to show why I prefer my method. Believe it or not my intent was to be helpful. Ed

RE: Dual LP Tanks Question

I'll admit that I've been around for a few years, but I just don't understand some of the responses to the original question. The reason for the automatic changeover is for exactly what the name implies. Why do some people insist on sticking to some absurd reason as to why they only leave one tank open at a time , WHY ??? All of the features that we now enjoy on our RV's came about after many years of people trying to improve on various things so that camping as we now know it, is very enjoyable. Listen to what experienced campers are trying to tell you and don't be so set in your ways, that you can't accept the newer technology. Ed

RE: Dual LP Tanks Question

I also leave both tanks open at all times, even during the winter when I'm not using the camper. I do run the furnace a couple of times during the winter, just to keep it going. Just like the previous post, I wait till the red flag pops up and then I switch the valve to the full tank. My experience has been that the empty tank is completely empty using the automatic changeover. If you want you can remove the empty tank at this time for refilling, after pointing the valve to the full tank and the furnace will keep going on the full tank. Ed

RE: First Time Winterizing .....

How does one do the black tank flush???? Do you just manually pour the antifreeze in....normally I hook up with a hose and turn the campground spicket...how is the antifreeze forced into and through to the bw tank? I believe that this is a flushing system that shoots water into your holding tanks to help in their clean out. Any thing in your camper that has water running through it when in use has to be winterized. That includes the above and all outside showers and your toilet rinse hose and the shower head, and etc, any thing at all that has water running through it. I run antifreeze through all of my fresh water outlets untill I see a good stream of Pink Antifreeze coming out. I don't care if I use 2 or 3 or 4 gallons @ around $3.00 or $4.00 a gallon, sometimes less on sale. ???? Better to be safe then sorry. I run all my antifreeze through my water pump, after bypassing the water heater and I use around 2 1/2 gallons. But use whatever it takes to get a good stream of pink out of ALL WATER OUTLETS. I also make sure to pour a cup full or more down all drains at the end. I then leave all the faucets open. That helps to let the seal relax till next year. Good Luck Ed

RE: Suburban Water Heater

Thanks for the replys, I will be replacing the electric element, I removed the 2 wires from the element and there is no continuity across the element ends. What I can't understand is why there is no voltage at the black wire that attaches to the element, I do have voltage at both sides of the thermostat limit switch. I thought that the black wire came directly from the limit switch. ?? Any thoughts on this ?? Thanks Ed

Suburban Water Heater

My Suburban water heater stopped working on electric over the Columbus Day weekend. I had replaced the element a few years ago, because I did not know at that time, I had an electric element. I burned it out by turning it on with an empty water tank. However that is not the case this time. I have 115 VAC at both sides of the thermostat limit switch. However there is no voltage at the electrical element. Also there is no continuity at the element with the power off. It seems to me that I need a new element, but I thought I would check and see what you all might think about it. Thanks Ed

RE: prodigy maxed out and won't stop 5er

You said that the brakes were fine when you brought it for the bearing repack?? Obviously they did something wrong, grease on the linings does sound like the problem, or else they really messed something else up. By all means go back and complain unless you have someone else you trust to check it out.

RE: need help

Not quite sure I understand your question ? Have you hooked up the camper to the truck and you are not able to raise the front jacks ?? Did you say that you raised one jack ? and not the other ? More info please.

RE: Out with the old...

It looks great and well made. I did notice that the new pin box has a lot less mounting holes. Does that still let you adjust to the same height you had before ? Ed

RE: bed liner and 5ver hitch

My neighbor had a bedliner in his truck and the hitch installer cut out the liner for the rails, other then stuff getting under the liner. He had no problems. When I got my fiver, I had the bed sprayed with Rhino Liner first. The rails were installed 2 days later, this made for a very neat instalation of the rails. To me this is the best way to go. I paid around $500. for the Rhino Liner. Ed

RE: Full hookup question?

We leave our gray tank valve open and our black tank valve closed till the night before we leave and then we close the gray valve tank. Then the morning we leave we dump the black tank and then open the gray tank to back flush the hose and black tank. That's the same procedure that we use, works just fine for us.

RE: Extended Warranty

This topic comes up every so often, it seems that most will say and I agree that an extended warranty is a waste of money. Granted there are some who have benefited from these warranty's, but most have lost money. The reason for this is that you are buying an insurance policy and guess who makes money on that ?? It is not going to be you. Some people like to pay for this comfort zone, but not me. Just put the money that you would pay for one of these warranty's in the bank and I would guess that most everyone would come out ahead. That being said, not everyone wants to take that gamble and they are more comfortable with the warranty. That is what makes the world go around.

RE: Add ceiling fan (not in vent)

My fiver in Florida does not have a fan, the type with four or five blades and lights. I suppose they are twelve volt which cuts out Home Depot etc. Has anyone installed such a thing and where did you get it? Thanks. When I bought mine used, about 6 years ago. I wanted to install a ceiling fan, I noticed a small round plate on the ceiling. I removed the plate and found that it was already wired for 110 volt for a ceiling fan. I went to Home Depot and bought a nice 5 blade fan with a light for around $30.00 or $40.00. We use it quite often. Ed

RE: 50 amp service - what have I gained?

ol Bombero-JC, Where did you buy the 12v cord reel and is it designed for 50 amp cord? Did you wire it directly to the 50 amp circuit. It sounds like that's what you did since it sits in your compartment (side or front?). I'm trying to visualize your set up. Im a little confused about the 3 inch pigtail and where you put that. I didn't want to hijack this thread but see it's fairly old. I tried to send you a PM but I'm not on your buddy list. Thanks, Lakejumper Here are a few cord reels, some motorized and some hand crank. RE: What did i buy????

i was told to look at the VIN# of the coach and something like the 7th or 8th number is the year of production, mine is a 7. the title also says its a 2007. Actually, it's the 10th digit that denotes the model year. You are 100% correct, I just got my renewal notice for my Auto insurance and all 3 vehicles have the year in the 10th digit.

RE: question on options on truck

I'm going to be getting a new truck(f250 of gm 2500) soon. I heard/read that on some build-in brake controler they don't always work with some 5th wheelers. also what is the best gear ratio to get? As others have said, go with the F-350 or any other 3500, 1 ton as opposed to 3/4 ton. The difference in price is minimal when you are buying new. You will gain a higher GVWR and more towing capacity. The 1 ton truck is want you want for most 5th wheels.

RE: greasing bearings

Does anyone know if there is any kind of toutorial online showing how to remove, repack, and replace the bearings? I have the EZ lube also, but it makes sense that is better to do it the old-fashion way. I'm good with DYI, but never done this. Thanks, Mark Get yourself one of these, they work great. You fill the bottom cup with the proper grease and then place the bearing on the top section in the correct direction, put the pusher on top and push down. All the old grease is forced out and replaced with new grease. Couldn't be any easier than that. You will have to get new grease seals for the inner bearing, they are not very expensive. Match up to old seals at your parts place, RV store or some auto parts stores will have them. Ed, Click on link below. Bearing Packer

RE: Goodbye to all my friends! Thanks for a great 5 years!

My head is spinning after reading all of these posts, please get a life and let it go. What difference does all this make ??? The only reason we are all here is to try and help each other enjoy the camping experience. Am I missing something here ??? Please let it go , "Life is too short". Ed

RE: Maxxis tires vs. Denman tires

Maxxis for me, I've had mine a year now. After all I read about them on this site, and I have to use a ST225/75 R15 tire because of not having a lot of clearence. I know I made the right choice. Ed
