RE: Looking for a 5th Wheel

I have to say the Landmark is an great trailer, we are quickly closing in our our first year of full-timing and the trailer has been great. The features and materials are top notch and our Augusta floorplan hasd a kitchen that no other trailer (except the Big Horn 3670rl) can even compare to. The customer support has been great. Fit and finish is excellent.

What about this with 4x4 and a cab over, or is that still too big?

RE: "MY" perfect RV type...

How about something like this on the roof of an crew cab F-450/550 so it would colapse to get down roads better, and gut the back seat out to create a compact living area and kitchen, and have the driver seat be ablt to rotate around to act as the comfy chair. You could build a custom bed/body with the holding tanks outboard of the frame

RE: Keystone Cougar poor design

I recently purchased a 2010 Keystone Cougar 326 MKS and noticed a gap in the floor of the front storage area where the front jacks go through the floor of the storage area. I was able to seal those gaps, however, I noticed openings under each of the front propane tanks that extended the length of the trailer between the side skirting and the frame I-beam.
The problem is that in this opening is exposed particle board that forms the floor of the large storage area. The particle board will get saturated from wheel spray from the truck on wet roads. Over time, it would seem that this particle board would eventually be damaged from the moisture.
I can make some modifications to seal this area, but wanted to know if anyone else noticed this problem on their trailers.
The topic was....."keystone Couger.. poor design.." you did not ask a question. You made a statement that was uninformed.
Looks like a question to me.:h

RE: New Keystone Alpine

Why do they insist on putting the washer and dryers in the bedroom??????
Why not, I don't do laundry while I sleep, so it keeps the noise out of the main living area.
Our trailer has stackable washer and dryer in the front closet, whats the big deal? if you have a full profile unit, the bedroom should be 6'4"+ and the stackable unit are really easy to fit in that space.

RE: Help pipes keep freezing!!!!

If you support the sewer hose at a constant downward slope, you should not have a substantial amount of water freeze in the sewer hose. We left the grey tanks open all week and had no issues with water freezing in it, let the faucets run at night and had the water hose heat taped and wrapped with 1/2 foam insulation. If you are trying to survive in really cold weather, you can make a water hose out of PEX and use 3" PVC and rubber couplers for a sewer drain. heat tape on the pipes and heaters or high wattage lights in the basement.

RE: how do you measure a fiver's length

What is wrong with giving trailer models a real name. We have a Landmark Augusta, it is that simple if we want to know the length I get a tape measure out and voila, We know the length. I don't have to think about if it a 3570 RKS or a 3940 DHL or anything like that, why have these seemingly meaningless numbers, just give the things real names. I'll put my soap box away now.

RE: Dropping landing gear when attached to TV.

The only time we don't unhook the trailer is if we pull into a Walmart parking lot at 11:00pm and plan on leaving at 7:00am, but we will still drop the landing gear, it takes about 30 seconds to pull both quick pins and then run the landing gear down a few inches. We have a Ford, so if the key is off there is no danger of running the truck batteries down. It only takes a few more minutes to unhitch the truck and pull foreward a foot and then level the trailer.

RE: loss

No regrets from us, We spent a good while checking out what we wanted and which company to go with, then the search for a good deal on the trailer, then the search for the right truck to pull the trailer. This was going to be our first RV, but my parents had 2 RVs when I was growing up, My wife had never step foot in one before. We wanted something that we would keep for a long time. We ended up ordering a 2010 Heartland Landmark Augusta from RV Capital Wholesalers in Elkhart, and bought a lightly used 2006 F-450 custom hauler from a dealer in Pueblo, Colorado. And I drove to Elkhart to pick it up the day it came off the build line. I feel that if you do your research and don't conprimise on the details of what you want, there is no need to have regret, just do it right the first time. it goes right back to the "measure once, cut twice, or measure twice and cut once."

What is the vertical hight of the Mor/Ryde?

RE: Holding Tank Mystery

We full time, so this might not work for most, but we leave the grey tanks open and the sensors work fine, every couple of months we close the valves and fill the tanks then do a full dump. If I wash anything really greasy I will rinse the sink and plumbing with a bit more soap and a few gallons of HOT water. That what works for us.

RE: Sealand Traveler Lite Model 210 Toilet - HELP!

Have you contacted SeaLand/Dometic and got the replacement spring cartridge that is sort of a warranty/recall item yet? That could be the problem. It take about 10 minutes to swap the cartridge.

RE: Turck set up for 5ver

I too have a f-450, but ours is a 2006. We have the Landmark version of the Big Horn 3670RL. We are using a reese 18K select plus hitch without any issues and the standard pin box. I have yet to feel any chucking or clunking from the trailer in over 13,000 miles of travel this past year. Our truck has both the factory tanks(one 20 gal and one 39 gallon), so we are not using any aux tanks, We also have a custom aluminum hauler bed so no bed cover or liner. One accessory we love is the Kelderman airide suspension system. this is not the air bags between the axle and frame, but a complete suspension system. It is pricey but makes the ride very nice even without the trailer. Enjoy that truck and your Big Horn. If you have not already Check out the Heartland Owners Forum, it is a great site.

RE: Height clearance on a 5th wheel?

No vehicles or loads greater than 13'0" are allowed on I-25 in Denver between milepost 200.11 (jct. I-225 & I-25) and milepost 213.85 (jct. I-70 & I-25). Overheight loads detour on I-225 to I-70., I-7.
I've driven that stretch of I-25 many times without issues. According to factory specs our Landmark sits a couple inches higher than your Montana and we have two A/C unit too. I would measure your trailer again. I believe that most semi-trucks with van trailers are only 13'0"

RE: About to give up

Just go find yourself a good solid used truck. I just sold a 1994 F-350 Crewcab IDI turbo diesel for $3,000. I am sure that you can find 250/350 with plenty of miles left on it for a few thousand dollars It will be cheaper than throwing parts at the 150.

RE: Window Treatments

The shadow box should have a screw tucked into the fold in the very bottom of each leg and a few screws through the top of the valence. I removed and recovered all of them in our trailer. It is real easy once you find the screws.
