RE: Extended Warranty?

Bought a bumper to bumper warranty for our second motor home and when we had a claim the components that were having issues were repairable and the cost didn't add up to enough for a claim to be worthwhile to file for with the $100 deductible. We never used it in 3 years and got a 60% refund of the premium when we sold the RV. Same thing with all of the auto extended warranties we have bought. We decided extended warranties have not been cost effective for us and will not purchase any in the future.

RE: CW serv. dept. wrecked our RV lied and tried to hide it

People make mistakes, it's how they are handled is what makes a difference to me if I will return again as a customer. I do believe that you get a lot more with honey then you do vinegar.
You may have already burned your bridge with CW on this Forum with your first post. Good luck with getting resolution but consider treading lightly if you expect to resolve the matter in a timley manner.
Keep a log of every phone call date, time, name and be specific with what your expectation for a resolution and set a deadline for it to happen. If the dealline has not been met then proceed to the next step in your process. There are other options to try before going to a lawyer. If you can't get resolve via the dealership or corporate then try the BBB, and state attorney general before you utter the word lawyer again.
Good Luck!

RE: Thinking about buying a Lance 1575

Try the LOA (Lance Owners of America) web site for Lance owners input, you will get the good and bad.
http://www.lanceowners.org/
Travel trailers, 5th wheels, and motor homes all have their low end to upper end in pricing and quality. So far my own ownership experience over the last 20 years of various types and sizes of RVs I feel like I got what I paid for with each purchase. One thing I do know is that no matter who built the unit, if the dealer has poor service or no support from the factory then the whole ownership experience can be very disappointing.
Hello All,
I'm new to RV.net site. We are thinking about purchasing a 2013 Lance 1575 Travel Trailer but I'm choking on the sticker price. They seem to be very well made. I don't mind paying for quality and I'm looking for any opinions, good or bad, that any of you may want to share. Any input from Lance owners would be helpful and appreciated.
I currently own a 2010 Coleman Evolution E3 tent trailer. Tow vehicle is a 2005 F-150
Thank you.

RE: Who will insure me?

Try GEICO, A few years ago I lived in MA and had my DL license in MA. I also had one vehicle registered and insured in MA and had a home in NC where I stored a car and motor home that both were registered in NC. The only company I could find to write a policy was GEICO. In addition to using GEICO while the vehicles sat in the garage not in use I was able to get the insurance put on vacation mode which reduced the rate quite a bit but maintained the fire and theft coverages. When I returned to NC and ready to roll the car or MH out on the road again all I had to do was call and report the current mileage on each vehicle and the reduced rate was honored. Good Luck!

RE: Good Sams NEVER STOPS

Right after CW and GS merged I was getting no less than 2-3 mailings a week from GS. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I received mail for an ex-spouse that had been deceased for over 15 years and had never even lived in my home or the state that I lived in. They tried to tell me that it was a coincidence that maybe the previous owner had the same name. I explained that was not possible because the property was full of trees when I bought it and had a house built on it. It took 8 months of emails and phone calls to get all of the junk mail from GS to stop coming to my home.
Be persistent when you call, take names dates and times and tell them you want a year of free membership for all of the BS you have put up with. It worked for me!

RE: New Dodge 2500 Ram--Just Got Slammed--Now What?

Glad to hear no one was hurt! Many factors will determine what you will get out of this, most of it being your own coverages.
Unless the driver that struck the OP is uninsured/under-insured, the OP's company would/should have no involvement.
I disagree and hope that the OP gets professional advice, it will be the only way he will have any chance of being made whole. Good Luck!

I would not give any kind of statement to the other individuals insurance, refer them to your insurance company. You will need to give your insurance company a statement and tell them what your expectations are and work through your insurance company to get your settlement. This is why you pay them the big bucks and they are working for you and will be the one to give you the most solid advice.
I also would suggest that unless you are getting everything you want that before you sign anything you get an opinion from a lawyer versed in automobile acident claims.

RE: Do I want Solar + how many Batteries - AGM, Gel or Water

In my OP, I did say that I was seeking input based on a specific usage, I also stated that I like to be prepared. Because I have a generator dedicated to my home for power outages, I had not thought of using the TT for an energy source nor had I thought about a power outage at a CG and the potential value of having the solar for support in these situations.
Until the replies became assuming and judgmental they were valuable to me and I thank you for sharing.

RE: Do I want Solar + how many Batteries - AGM, Gel or Water

when ordering new it is a lot more important to get things that really matter like a black tank sprayer.
Good thing the black tank sprayer comes standard with the unit or I might have to pass on the solar. JK!
One feature that doesn't seem to be on smaller TTs is a hand sprayer for the toilet. Our last motor home had one, now it is a must have and will be added on by the dealer!
Thank you all again for your input, I am still going to get the solar and an AGM battery. No harm in having it, like another poster said it won't hurt resale.

RE: Do I want Solar + how many Batteries - AGM, Gel or Water

You could always put one translucent section of roofing in the car port over where the panel will be.
What solar controller do they include when you buy the factory option?
Jim
Although, that sounds like an excellent idea I can't do any modifications to the car port without voiding the warranty. It's not a problem, we have a 30amp power pedestal next to the car port to keep the batteries charged up.
The details are not listed on the manufactures web site. We are buying a Lance TT

RE: Do I want Solar + how many Batteries - AGM, Gel or Water

Thank you everyone for your input, there seems to be more positive reasons to have the solar vs. not. I am going to go ahead and order the solar with the unit and put on the biggest AGM battery I can mount. The dealer I am working with said the solar option would come installed from the factory and will cost me $614. That seems to be a fair price for a system installed, too bad I can't get a tax deduction for it. :)

Do I want Solar + how many Batteries - AGM, Gel or Water

I have tried to read all of the threads on this site related to AGM, Gel batteries, solar and still unable to draw any conclusions, I could use input on my usage situation.
We are in the process of ordering a TT and with it we have the option of getting a 145W solar panel. I don’t know if it's something we need or can pass on.
Our camping style is the following… In the 15 years we have been RVing we have learned that we are not the boondocking type, no Walmart camping and have no intention of camping in freezing conditions but you never know when you might encounter a cold night on the way home from a warm winter destination or on the top of a mountain temps can dip into freezing at night so I like to be prepared. Otherwise, we live in Coastal NC temps rarely get into the 20s and we store our RV under a car port. I am debating on if we should go ahead and get the solar panel or not and which battery/batteries (AGM/Gel/Water), and do I need more than one.

Lance TT - Convertible Sofa Bed

We are interested in purchasing a Lance TT. I have visited the Lance owners group and was not able to find an answer to my question and would appreciate hearing from any Lance TT owners here that have the convertible sofa bed option.
1. Is the bed comfortable?
2. Can you put a foam topper on the bed and have enough room to fold everything up and use the sofa?
We both have bad backs and have Sleep number beds in our home and our last motor home, a comfortable mattress is a must for us.
Thank you

RE: how much truck to buy.

According to NADA your 23' Mallard weighs 3600lbs. You can tow that with just about any 1/4 ton pickup with a V8 and make it up hills just fine. The Ford Eco Boost V6 will also get the job done with plenty of power to spare. They came out in 2011 on the F150.
I just purchased a 96 Mallard 23 ft. travel trailer. I am looking for a used pickup truck to pull it. What should I look for as far as motor size?

RE: Storing a TT at a beach campground??

We live 3 miles from the intercostal waterway and 4 miles to the ocean and park our motorhome in a car port at home. When we camp we park at ocean front campgrounds more then inland campgrounds and you would never know it has ever spent a day near the ocean.
Life is short and you don't get any do overs. Store it at the beach and enjoy!

RE: Passport America

The short answer for us is yes, it's well worth the cost. We have been PPA Life members since 2009 and recovered the cost of the life time membership by the end of 2011. There are restrictions but we plan our travel days during the week and we try to use PPA parks for overnight stops.
