RE: Sleeping in Daylight

We found that the best way to darken the bedroom area in our MH was to close the blinds with the slats in the reverse mode, then use clip on clothes pins to hang a heavy bath towel from each window valence and cover the roof vent with a piece of foam board covered with decorative cloth (secured with velcro). Worked great and we were able to get our normal 7-8 hours. It was very evident to us that with all the daylight throughout the evening that we weren't going to get the normal ques from mother nature that trigger sleepiness. Because of that, it was tempting to stay up late and get just a few hours rest but both the wife and I cannot function well without a good nights sleep. This worked well in 2009 and 2010 and hopefully will again this year. We leave Illinois June 7th. Mike

RE: Do Canadian Walmarts accept US Drug plans

We rely on the 90 day supplies of medicines that we get via our US mail order pharmacy. In the past when we were getting ready to leave for Alaska, if we found we were in the middle of the 90 day cycle and would need refills in mid trip, we would call the pharmacy and they would always approve an early refill. We always carry our meds in their original containers and have a copy of the doctor's written notes on what he has prescribed for each of us. We never see the actual prescription slips anymore as the doctor's office faxes the mail order pharmacy directly. Mike

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

Please add 2HAMS2ALSAKA to the list of adventurers!
Well it is a last minute decision but I guess that is one advantage of being retired. Perhaps one of the few these days. But we have decided to make our third trip North in 2013, leaving about June 6 from Illinois. We did it in 2009 and 2010 and have given into the itch to do it again. We may only make it as far as Whitehorse and/or Dawson City but that's OK. There is plenty to see and do to that point. We have a time limit due due medical issues so this will be a play it by ear trip. Can't wait to see the animal babies this year and to spend a couple days at Liard HS, Toad River, Muncho Lake etc. Will return via the Cassiar Highway again.
We will look for others from this group along the way, we will be in our white 2000 Coachmen Class C with Illinois plates and ham radio antennas.
Arlyce and Mike along with our two Shih Tzu traveling companions, Jack and Diane.

RE: Proof on Auto Insurance

On both our 2009 and 2010 trips to Alaska, we asked for and recieved from our insurance agent (State Farm) the Canadian Inter-Provence Insurance Card. We were told that you will not likely have to show it anywhere. However, if you were to be involved in an accident, things will go much easier with the local authorities if you can produce this card instead of the standard insurance company card you normally carry. We were never involved in any happening that required proof of insurance so I have no first hand knowledge of how much having it greases the skids.
Perhaps one of the Canadian readers can comment.
