towing

When towing a car behind a motorhome what are the pros and cons to the various methods. Flat towing, dolly or full car trailer? Thanks

security

Anybody have any suggestions about RV door locks? I know campgrounds are mostly safe but I'd prefer a better door lock. At home we have deadbolts and an alarm system so I'm used to better security. DW of 4ever

RE: It's the pedal on the RIGHT!

I agree with all of your comments. Only problem is poor driving does not apply to just on and off ramps. Most people have no clue about driving. Most use the left lane all the time regardless of their speed. Stop lights & stop signs are now mere sugestions. Everyone going faster then me is insane and everyone going slower is an idiot.

Mice

I know there have been some threads recently about mice getting into fiver's. All the ones I have read discussed sealing up all the wholes. Now that is where I see the problem. Mice can get into even the very smallest of openings. I think it would be almost impossible to seal or rig that tight. I live in the woods and we do have many mice. Does anybody have ideas on what we can put under and/or around or rig to deter them? Thanks

RE: gas or diesel

I would go with the diesel. You will get more torque with the diesel. Have no problems getting diesel at tuck stops.

RE: What would you do???

Customer service is very important however, there are many good dealers out there providing good customer service. We recently purchased a 5th wheel from a dealer about 40 miles away. This dealer was excellant and provided great customer service. Since we purchased the vehicle the dealer went out of buisness. I found a new dealer even closer that just picked up the Bighorn line and went to him to get some warranty work done. Work is not finished yet however, so far it sapperas to be as good as the first dealer. Of course time will tell. I would certainly be careful about purchasing a 5th wheel that is not want you want. You will have it for some time and will spend a lot of time in it.

RE: Will a 6ft bed do the job?

I have a Ford F250 with the 6.5 short bed and pull a Bighorn. No problems. I did not get the slider as the front of the 5th wheel is designed for short beds.

RE: Rear Hitch for Montana Fifth Wheel

I don't have a Montana we have a Bighorn with a similar backend. We had a receiver hitch insatleed (bolted) on to the frame. We use this for bike rack. Not really much weight.

RE: Ouch! $1,047 property tax bill on fiver here in Charlotte!!!

Some have mentioned registering you rv in South Dakota. How do you go about doing that?

RE: Ouch! $1,047 property tax bill on fiver here in Charlotte!!!

We may be moving to North Carlonia some time over the next year. Anyway to get around this? Can you register your camper in another state? That will be a lot of tax every year with two vehicles and a 5th whell. Perhaps we will not move to NC.

RE: Tire pressure maintenance

I keep a small 110 volt 100 PSI air compressor so that i can do my tires and adjust my airhitch if needed.

JT LEVEL

I was just reading about the wireless digtal levels from JT. Sounds like a good idea but, so do a lot of things. Has anyone used these? Would like to know what you think of them. I know JT is a good company and makes the stablizers. Any thoughts. Thanks.

RE: best 5th wheel length

We recently purchased a 37 foot Bighorn. I went back and forth over this same issue. I thought that we may have difficulty with anything over 35 foot. We have only taken one trip so far staying at five diffrent campgrounds. No problem so far. Also, many others our size.

REAR CAMERAS

I am considering a rear camera for our fiver. I have heard that if you go with a wirless that you should run the antena at least from the hitch and not the rear of the trailer. Any thoughts? Also, where do you install the monitor?

RE: First time towing

I just got back from our first trip pulling my new fiver and had no problems. This was the first large trailer and fiver I have ever pulled. Went through the WV, VA and NC mountains mostly intersate however did do a few back roads with switch backs. Have F250 diesel and 3410RE Bighorn (37 foot). I also have the trailer air pin box works great. Nothing really to look out for. I guess just getting fuel. Best to stop at the truck stops.

RE: Towing Tempperatures

I also have a 2009 F250 with the 6.4L diesel. I recently purchased a Bighorn 3410RE that is 37 foot long. I have no problem towing. Just got back from a trip through the mountains in WV, VA and NC. My temperature gauge for the transmisson stayed in the normal range the whole time.

RE: Carry bikes on smooth rear 5er

We had a reciver hitch installed to the frame of the trailer. This allows me to use a reciver hitch bike rack on the back.

RE: How do you level your 5er

That is the asme way we do it. If the kitchen is level we are level. I tried a couple of other ways and the counter worked the best. Ted
