RE: New Hankook Tires

I have had my Hankook AH-11's for three seasons and 8k miles with no issues. I pulled the GY670's at 16k miles and 3 years after two blowouts, hard ride and the inabilty to get them balanced.

RE: steep driveway - new unit?

It would cost some money, but if you reworked the approach of the driveway to be at more of an angle (closer to parallel with the road) I'd bet you would make it. Maybe just a wider apron at the bottom to allow an appoach at an angle. The issue appears to have more to do with the dip where driveway and road meet.

RE: Itasca 35J vs. Coachmen 34BH

Itasca for better construction and probably better quality furniture and cabinetry. I would also venture to say the grey/black and fresh water systems would be more sophisticated. Heated tanks vs. not? Better insulation?

RE: boondocking spots in the NE US

The northeast is not a hotbed of boondocking areas. Honestly none that I know of. Out west I know people post here all the time. Never recall any boondocking trips posted east of the Mississippi with the exception of maybe the ocean in RI. I'm sure there are a few, but the land seems to be much more controlled up here, or privately owned.

RE: stopping on an uphill climb

If I am sitting long enough to put it in park, I leave it in drive, put on the emergency brake, let it roll back (or forward) until it grabs, then put it in park. When starting out, with foot on brake, put it in drive then release the emergency brake.

RE: Add ons for better MPG Class A Gas

Collectively, my father and I have owned 7 motorhomes.
1983 Shasta 23' class C - Ford 460 Carb - 7 to 7.5 mpg
1987 Mallard 27' class C - Ford 460 Carb - 7 to 8 mpg
1991 Gulf Stream 31' class A - Chevy 454 TBI - 7 to 8 mpg
1997 Holiday Rambler 35' class A Ford 460 FI - 6.5 to 7.5 mpg
2003 Holiday Rambler 35' class A Ford V10 (310 hp) 7 to 8 mpg
2006 Jayco Granite Ridge 31' class C Ford V10 (310 hp) 7 to 7.5 mpg
2007 Damon Daybreak 35' class A Ford V10 (362 hp) 7 to 9 mpg
Not much difference in the averages and if any of them did beter or worse it was strictly situational (hills, wind, etc.) I just don't see you improving more than .5 mpg unless it's speed related.
My 2 cents...

RE: Retracting a Stranger's Mechanical Awning in a Storm?

I have done so, and wouldn't mind if someone did the same.

RE: Mice living in our KZ Spree...sigh.

Some of the newer cars (I believe it was Honda) had some problems a few years back. They used soy products in the production of some of the wire coatings or harnesses. The mice loved them.

RE: Mice living in our KZ Spree...sigh.

I have had some issue with mice getting in too. I found:
1. block up any access you can find.
2. Set many traps and check them daily.
3. My issues start in late fall and end in early spring.
I have managed to keep them out of the MH (except for maybe one or two). They seem to enter through my sewer compartment. I set three or four traps there and a couple inside. I trapped about 11 or 12 this year, but nipped it before they got into the unit. I have yet to find anything that works other than a daily check of the traps.

RE: problems with hot air through dash vents

Second Opinion for sure. Don't know how handy you are, but I first would check to see if the compressor is working. Start it up with the A/C off. Watch the A/C compressor. Have someone turn the A/C on. You should be able to see the clutch engage. The pully will be spinning but the center/plate in the front will not. When it is switched on you should hear a click and it will start to spin. If not then the system may need a charge. Even if the compressor was changed you could have a leak elsewhere. A good mechanic can find it. They can put a dye in and check it with a black lite. (or that was the technology 15+ years ago, could be different.)
If it seems to be working drive it for a bit. Do the lines from the compressor frost up. does water drip from the condenser. (You know the puddle of water you get on the ground when running the a/c) If yes, then I would venture the system is working, but the valve/diverter is not switching from heat. Could be a vacuum line, cable, or electronic switch/valve is stuck or not operating.
Without knowing exactly what chassis you have it is hard to be more specific.
I know on my Damon I have an issue with the unit switching to heat. It eventually does, but it sticks.

RE: To dump or not...

I always dump because you just never know what might cause a change of plans. Only takes a couple of minutes. Add some water and chemicals. This past weekend is a good example. Had plans to go somewhere but wife was sick. Now it will be another three weeks before we get out. Would have been in the tank for 5 weeks. It would have been on my mind. I have enought******on my mind, don't need more...

RE: Change Oil or Not

3,000 mile oil changes date back to carburated engines when much more fuel could contaminate the oil, auto chokes that ran rich, etc. 5,000 miles is on the low end of the change interval these days. The company I work for has upwards of 200 vehicles on the road from the Ford Focus, F150'S, and Ford and GM diesels from 6 years old to brand new. They go with an 8,000 mile change interval on all. Many of the trucks are over 100k and some over 200k. Went to a synthetic.

RE: How many pull a car with a Ford V10?

No Problem. I towed a 2002 Suzuki XL-7 behind my 2006 Jayco Granite Ridge. About 5,000 miles worth.
