RE: I got locked in for a while, what if it was a real lock in.

You should have your fire escape windows that push out.
Exactly! You should get to know your RV a little better. What if there was a fire and you couldn't get to the door? My toy hauler has escape windows on both ends. Obviously they are not the most convenient way to exit the trailer and you could even get injured climbing out the one in the bedroom because it sits very high, but you should never feel trapped inside.
I think me and that tech would have had a less than gentlemanly conversation after he pulled that trick!

RE: Happy Jack Bed Failure

I repaired my own in our fuzion. With help of a friend, removed bed, removed million staples, layed a sheet of 3/8 sanded plywood and screwed together. Restapled materiel and reinfoced front edge with 1.5" aluminum l channel. $35
That was basically the repair that I had planned to do on my own if they refused to do anything with it, but since I had a few small items that needed warranty work, I figured it was worth a try. Normally I avoid the dealer at just about any cost and just take care of things myself.
Of course there is no such thing as a "free lunch". When I went to pick it up yesterday, the battery was totally dead. I had disconnected the battery when I dropped it off but the tech must have reconnected it when they started working on it 6 weeks ago and used it for interior lighting. I jumped it to the truck and got the generator started but even after 20 minutes of charging the battery was too far gone to keep the generator running. I finally gave up and got one of the clowns in the shop to bring out a jump box so I could pick the jacks up and leave. With a little bit of effort, it seemed to take a charge so I guess we'll have to see how it does in the future. Oh well, I've been wanting to go to dual batteries anyway and a new battery is still cheaper than all the repairs that they made if I have to buy one.

RE: EcoBoost problems on the Horizon...:?

LOL! That right there is funny, I don't care who you are. The "displacement" of the hemi is too weak to even turn a top fuel blower at fuel speed! In this era of technology, there is an efficient "replacement for displacement". People that can't grasp that are usually the same ones who feel that a manual transmission is somehow superior to an automatic. Guess what guys, Elvis Presley is no longer topping the charts either.

RE: Happy Jack Bed Failure

They are replacing the bed with a new unit. The frame is only a 2x4 laying on its side so my suspicion is that there was a big knot in the middle of it creating a weak spot. The frame nearest the ramp door seemed fine so there has to be some sort of flaw in the wood that made the front frame weak.

RE: EcoBoost problems on the Horizon...:?

my brother has an eco boost and a vw tdi. they both got inter coolers on the same day. basically anything with and inter cooler can have this issue.
This leads me to believe that driving habits have a lot to do with the problem. Just about every vehicle I have ever owned had its own little quirk and a simple change in driver behavior usually makes all the difference in the world. People get very upset when you tell them that they may be causing the problem because even the worst driver in the world somehow feels that they have superior driving skills. A friend had his girlfriend wreck his truck a few days ago and her defense was that she "drives better than any other girl out there". I think Ms. Patrick and the Force girls would probably beg to differ!

RE: EcoBoost problems on the Horizon...:?

Whats to worry about? They stood behind the 6.0 problems didn't they?
Well?
Actually everybody likes to act like 6.0 customers were left to swing in the wind and that certainly was not my experience. Mine was in the shop 3 times in 4 years with 2 of those trips being major repairs and I only spent $100 total on the repairs. You can't ask for much more than that as far as backing the product goes.

Happy Jack Bed Failure

I have read previous posts about the top bunk sagging on the Happy Jack beds in the garage and sure enough mine appeared pretty weak when we did our pre-delivery inspection last October. Even with no more than a 100 lb child in the bed, the front frame would sag pretty bad. I finally took the Fuzion in for some minor warranty work about 7 weeks ago with the bed being one of my complaints. Overall it took the dealer 4 attempts to get Keystone to offer an acceptable fix, but thanks to their persistence, Keystone finally authorized them to install a new top bed.
I fully expected Keystone to say there is nothing abnormal about the bed (which they did twice) and the dealer to simply pass that info on. If it hadn't been for the service writer refusing to accept anything less than a structural repair, I would be repairing the bed myself. I had heard of several cases that were denied repair. I think the final straw was when they used a 200 lb man to demonstrate how weak the bed was and then while taking pictures of the same man in the bed of a new trailer sitting on the lot to show that it reacted nearly the same, the "new" bed frame made cracking sounds and sagged worse. Warranty claim success truly does lie in the hands of the dealer service department.
If you experience the same problem with your Happy Jack bed system on any brand toyhauler, don't take no for an answer. Insist that your dealer persist until the manufacturer does the right thing. As much as people seem to harsh on Camping World dealers, I am proud to say that my dealer recently joined the Camping World network and I am glad to have them on my side.

Must be another "Shameful Ford Event"! Maybe the one man Ford wrecking crew will champion this cause also and put Ford out of business through his public service announcements on 27 internet forums.

RE: 6 Point Leveling System

Level-Up Dealer Locator Look at the bottom of that page and you fill find a list of states with dealers that install the Level-Up system. Depending on what part of Mississippi you live in, it looks like a road trip to either Missouri or Florida for you.

RE: Changing diff. oil ???

No need to be afraid to change the diff oil. I do it at around 50,000 miles with the 2 F350s that I have owned. On my 06 I upgraded to the Ford finned aluminum cover when I changed the oil. In a few months I will be changing the fluid in the 11 and will probably upgrade to a Mag-Hytech cover this time. The trailer I am towing is much larger and the extra fluid and cooling capacity will be a welcomed addition.
I have rarely seen a sealed Sterling 10.5 unit fail as long as the oil level is correct. It isn't absolutely necessary to frequently change the diff oil unless you constantly work your truck to its limit 100% of the time, but for the cost of the few quarts of oil that it takes, it is good peace of mind!

RE: Warning Regarding Extended Service Plan

Actually a broken clock is correct twice a day, but I digress. As previously stated by several people, no warranty plan covers regular maintenance items or neglect. I have never heard a single complaint of fuel issues from people that use an additive such as Stabil or Seafoam. My 2 stroke lawn maintenance equipment sits idle for 5 months at a time with gas in the carb and every single one will start and run with no issues every Spring. Anytime gas gets put in a can, it should have an additive in it. That is just the way it works these days with unknown amounts of ethanol in our gas.
I guess if you left your RV windows and roof vents open during a rain storm and some of your electronic equipment shorted out from getting wet, you would expect Good Sam to pay for it? This is a good example of the general decline of our society today. People want somebody else to be responsible for their actions. I guarantee that if you actually read the owners manual for your generator you would find that you have not followed the recommended maintenance schedule. It is not the responsibility of Good Sam or anybody else to insure you against your own neglect.

RE: Holmans

Obviously the further you are away from Ohio, the more it is going to cost for shipping and the savings dwindle quickly. Even after figuring the cost of fuel, meals, etc. I saved over $4,000 beyond the best deal I could find locally. The amazing thing about them is even though they are too far away to provide me with warranty service, they still want to be in the loop and handle any claims I may have through a local dealer. I can't even get that kind of service from the dealer that is 15 miles from my home!

RE: what do ya think...another suspension post

Pete,
The new 250s sag far worse under load than the older models did. You will actually have vacuum boost brakes on a 250 instead of hydro boost also. You may need airbags to carry that big truck camper on a 2013 F250.

That is awesome for the folks that live in those areas. I drove 500+ miles one way to buy my Fuzion from Holman and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Great people to deal with and their prices are nearly impossible to beat.

RE: Finally..the CEL is gone...See How I Did It

Yep I bet the line is long to buy a known contaminated fuel tank like that one! Are you going to step up and warranty any damages caused to someone else's truck from the contamination that could possibly be in that tank? I mean who in this world doesn't know about the contamination since you have posted about 16 million times on 37 different forums in the last year!

RE: Poll: Did you go larger?

I would say that at least half the people that buy a camper trailer of some sort are usually trying to be budget conscious and their first trailer is never what they really wanted in the first place. I know 6 years ago when we bought our first one, the 30' fifth wheel seemed like it would be something that we could live with even though we silently dreamed of a toy hauler. Last Fall we finally realized that dream with a new Fuzion. It should be everything we ever need, but you never know. Probably the only thing that will keep me from going bigger is the need to upgraded the truck for a bigger trailer.
My neighbors on the other hand are a classic example of what you are asking. Their first trailer was a small 24' travel trailer that even though I told them they couldn't, they attempted to tow with a Nissan Pathfinder. After 3 or 4 short trips, they traded in their second vehicle for an F150 to handle the trailer. Soon enough the wife got the itch for something bigger and again they bought something that their tow vehicle couldn't handle. This time it was a 32' travel trailer that put the F150 on the ragged edge even with airbags and an additional transmission cooler. The next step was to trade the F150 for a nice F350 diesel dually. A few weeks after they got the dually I told my wife to be on the lookout for a new trailer next door. Sure enough they soon had a new fifth wheel toy hauler that challenges their dually. That trailer has lasted about 3 years so far.
I've seen this sort of thing a few times. It really is best financially if you just buy the trailer and tow vehicle that you ultimately want the first time, but people in general aren't wired that way. In some cases, maybe it is better to work your way up. That way you don't end up with a major expenditure that is a poor investment and suddenly realize that camping just isn't your thing. My advice would be if you know that camping is something you will stick with, you are not going to like a 24'-26' travel trailer for very long with 2 kids. Sleeping capacity was a major reason for our upgrade. We went from being able to comfortably sleep 4 to easily sleeping 8. Being able to take the sister in-law and her 3 kids with us to Disney last fall was a giant leap forward for us. The kids are old enough that they want to bring friends and it wasn't an option before. We look forward to more extended family trips this year!

RE: Calculating Fifth Wheel Maximum Weight

Based on my experience with a toyhauler larger than the fifth wheel you are talking about and basically the same truck is as follows. Loaded and ready to travel with hitch, Firestone airbages and the Ford roll-up bed cover, I have around 2,500 lbs pin weight capacity to stay within the 11,500 lb rating of the truck. Even at 2,500 lbs of pin weight, you will still have 600-700 lbs left on the RAWR of 7,000. My weights are slightly heavier than that, but still remain within the RAWR and load capacity of the tires. Overall my gross weight ready to camp with a full tank of fuel is just over 24,000 lbs. Yes I know the weight police will go into cardiac arrest over this! The truth is I have driven class 8 trucks within their legal limits that I was far less confident in than my current setup.

RE: I need this EXACT clevis pin bracket

Simple marketing tactics here. If they sell you the parts then nobody would pay their high asking price for the entire kit. I didn't buy that option because I think the railings are a PITA and constantly in the way when you actually use your toyhauler to haul toys.
I'm not buying the BS that the door is stronger. I have carefully inspected quite a few of both varieties and there is no visible difference. Many people have made their own cable kits on ramp doors that were supposedly not designed for it and have had no issues at all. Why can the door support a 1500 lb vehicle but not 800 lbs of people? The answer is simple, instilling fear in the customer enables the manufacturer to charge more than double for this desirable feature!
