RE: Costco! champion 3100w genny

If the ac shuts off then recycles within a couple minutes most gens will struggle.I have a honda 300eu and that too will set the breaker if i try and restart the a/c shortly after turning it off or it cycles within a couple minutes after the compressor tops.
Most times it runs constantly or the compressor will cycle with enough time between cycles so not really a problem. And i know my honda has a good surge wattage too.Has more than my old champion 3500 did.

RE: K&N Filters

Save the money you wont feel the difference. They dont filter fine dirt that well even if oiled.
When used in sand/off road they recomend you use an outerware to help out that should tell you something.

RE: Any changes for 2014 Chevy 2500HD model engines?

I feel chevy small blocks can run for a long, long time and even when beaten on can endure with very low cost to maintain. Just my observation. Look forward to the new 5.3 to be tested against the ford turbo 6 and see how they stack up. I also feel like maybe GM might be sandbagging on the 5.3 and change its numbers without notice?!? Anyway I drive all high mile GM trucks and vans so I cant even think of dropping all that money on the fancy trucks the big three have to offer!!! I can dream though that's half the fun without a payment !!
I have 310k on my 6.0 in my 3500 work truck its a 12 ft bed and has atleast 3k of material on it everyday.Water pump went out around 290k the flexplate cracked around 285k and a heater core leaked around 295k.As far as the engine its been solid.

RE: Keeping a Honda Generator running till fuel runs out?

I own a few motorcycles as well as a honda 300 generator i like to leave a lil fuel in the carbs if i can and have not had any issues doing so.The only one i di have a prob with a carb jet is my daughters quad that sat for a couple months without starting and the fuel valve was one that only works wheen the engine is on.From going dry the pilot jet got clogged up somehow everything else i own has never done this and the ones i know who turn their gas off are ones who have had carb probs after sitting for a while.
Gas in the carb keeps things wet no gas gets dry and gummy from residue.I dont use any stabil either,Longest i had something sit was 6 months it was my old atc i had standing against the wall so i had to turn off gas i would turn it on every now and then to fill carb. When i decided to ride it it took 3 kicks to start.

RE: Anyone own a Champion Generator?

I had the 3500/4000 it did fine but only got about 2 years out of it.after about 1.5 years it was struggling to start my a/c and even the micro would load it down.
Before that i had an elim 3000 i got about a 1.5 years out of it.
I would use them to run my a/c for hours straight in the summer in my toyhauler, and quite a bit over the winter riding season at glamis to power my flood lights or charge batteries.
When my champ went out i priced them and the price jumped here in ca i had 600 into gens that got me 3.5 years and i could dump another 400 into a new one.I decided to get a used honda 3000 in 2009.So far its been great and put alot of hours on it.It also uses half the fuel of the champion and in a week long trip it makes a difference.

RE: Generators and sand

I mainly camp in the sand at glamis during the winter and it will take its toll on everything it can esp if its windy.I have had it make the carb stick on my old china gens to where they needed to be cleaned out good so that the throtlle can open and close freely.
With my honda it now stays in the bed of the truck i will not set it on the sand. With the covered gens like honda or yamahas they need to be atleast a foot off the ground and you should be fine.
As for the fine dust from the sad i wouldnt worry about it.Its the grains you need to watch out for.

RE: 6.0 chev...2500hd...Anyone haul TC ...??

Have an 04 2500hd 4x4 4.10 gears.I have a lance swuire 185 camper 8.5 ft the tag says 2700 pounds with water and propane plus i load it for a week long trip then tow a 21ft eliminator ski boat full fuel and also loaded with extra camp stuff for a week.
I tow from so cal to lake powell the mpg can be as high as 10 if i stay under 60 and on the flats. But its about 8 avg.Power is fine on flats on small grades but if head winds it suffers will still hold 55 but its working.Hills i dont push it drop in 2nd and cruise it at 35 it keeps the trans temp under 220 on a 105 degree day.
Most trips we take are to havasu/needles area for the weekends so it aint as loaded like it is for the powell trip and i can feel the difference.Does fine like this.

RE: Brand New @#$% @#$% Harbor Freight genny won't start

I bought one too over the summer. It started fine but when it comes to running it runs when it wants too. Then it may shut off and not want to start the rest of the day or it may.I normally give up and try a few hours later or next day then it may start.
I also noticed last trip after i got it started some devices will not work my battery charger wouldnt, and it wouldnt run the fridge in the trailer(both use low wattage and way under the generators rating)i assume this is from dirty output and no big deal though.
I mainly use my honda 3k but i do got to say when the HF gen has a decent load on it it does purr pretty good til it stops

RE: Saw a Tundra commercial today.....

But in reality a tundra or any 1/2 tons gonna hold out to towing heavy trailers for many miles. For hailng boxes in the back of the bed thats about all there good for.
Again, I don't need a 1 ton diesel dually to tow my 6000 lbs travel trailer. There is a place for half tons, which is why they sell so many.
No you dont need a doesel but a 3/4 ton has a better drivetrain!I tow a toyhauler with my 2500hd gasser its about 7k and truck bed is also loaded pretty good.I know a 1/2 ton could do it but how long will it last?
I dont drive my truck much anymore its mainly used for camper or towing these days 135k on it for an 04 it had 60k in jan 07.

RE: Saw a Tundra commercial today.....

Wonder how long the trans is going to hold up from that, gear ratios?were they stock or changed for this shoot?,4wd and in low range? You know it had to get pretty warm towing that and the loads on the clutches are not that easy.
Yes it may have towed the 300k and i am sure any full sized half ton could have too.

RE: Deep Cycle Battery

If room for 6 volts go that route.Other wise a group 27 from wal mart will do fine.
I run 6 volts for my toyhauler and they will go a long time and get good life out of them and they can take some abuse.
I also have the wal mart group 27 in my lance camper its 3.5 years old and still going pretty good.I recently swapped it out to my boat to use for the stereo and put a new one in the camper.I like to run a battery tender on them atleast once a month.

RE: Harbor Freight 2-stroke, or new rings in Honda eu1000i

Have a hf 2stroker its great when it works. The air filter design sucks.Sometimes mine will shut off and cant get it restarted then maybe a couple hours later it fires up and runs til it wants to shut off.
I also have a honda 3000 that i mainly use the HF i may run at night at the dunes to run a spotlight.

RE: Gasoline transfer pumps do they exist?

I got an older carter pump that i use to transfer fuel from a 30 gallon drum into my truck or toys at the desert. Its slow but gets the job done.
When i raced dragboats i ran a pro stock style engine and it needed a good sized electric fuel pump.It did about a gallon in 8 seconds but they run about 500 bucks at the time maybe more.

RE: Locking Rear Differential

I had a g80 in my 89 3/4 ton burban and it worked great once it locked in it stayed til you let off the gas.
Also have one in my current 2500hd srw and it aint that great the newer ones disengage around 35mph and at slower speeds it unlocks quite often. They normally need one wheel to spin to lock which is fine but the older ones stayed locked the newer one at slow speeds stays locked til you get traction then unlocks again then will re engage. In the sand it works great but on hardpack desert trails it sucks.

RE: Towing a boat

Heres my set up i dont have any issues with stopping.I do allow enough distance between cars too.Trailer has brakes but like most surge brakes on boats they dont work.I have towed it to lake powell from so cal a couple times so i have seen my fair share of hills.Boat is usually full of fuel(36 gallons) and our stuff for a week long trip.

RE: Why do you camp, and why a truck camper?

We camp mainly at the desert sand dunes in the winter and use the toyhauler since we got to haul alot of stuff.
As for summer time i also have a boat and we take a trip to lake powell for a week.I use the camper on this trip so i can tow the boat and still have a place to escape the monsoons, place to cook, etc.Works great cause i can now split the drive up leave orange county area and stay overnight 30 min out of vegas.
We also may hit the kern river area too camper wins here beats towing the toyhauler,And i use the camper for headed to the boat races where i shoot photos this gives me a place to print and go thru my pictures.Again beats towing the trailer.
Its an 8.5 lance most times we are outside on camping trips just a place to sleep, and the other S word.
