RE: Jayco 264BH vs 26BH?

I have the 264bh. When we purchased from trailside RV in Kansas city I also looked at the 26bh. For how I camp the 264 was perfect. I don't need more fresh water or fancy cabinets. I have been very happy with my choice.

RE: winterizing question. when?

There is not much to winterizing. I would not pay someone to do it. All you need to do is open all your drain valves to let the water out and open all your faucets so that there is no vacuum preventing the water from draining. They make an air fitting you can hook up to your city water inlet to blow the lines out but this has never blown any water out of my RV when I tried it - just opening the drains and faucets does the trick for me. You can buy gallon jugs of RV antifreeze (make sure you use the RV, non-toxic antifreeze!) at Walmart. Pour about a cup of the antifreeze in all of your sink drains so that the traps won't freeze up. Of course make sure your holding tanks are empty, too. That's all there is to it. You should also pump the anti-freeze into the waterlines to be sure they don't freeze as well.

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

jalichty have you done any cold weather camping, if so how did it fare? We will be towing with a Ford F250 with the powerstroke so I am not to worried about that end of it. Anything you can recommend to look at for the slides or tips to prevent issues?

RE: Jayco Jay Flight 33RLDS

A friend has this exact trailer, and I have to say it is very roomy. The few issues that I know he has had are in the summer the A/C is under sized and he has thought of adding a second in the bedroom. He also had an issue where the toilet would not stop and it overflowed and flooded the trailer. Jayco replaced the toilet, and repaired all the flooring and insulation under warranty. He also has complained that there is no hood over the stove top.

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

Well that was fast, they offered $25,800 at RVDirect for the identical trailer. But I would have to drive to Des Moines to pick it up a 5 hour drive, and buy a hitch. Looks like the price isn't that bad at all really.

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

The $26,500 included the hitch and install. I requested a price quote from RVDirect. I will call the dealer tomorrow and figure out the make and model of the hitch so I can better price shop.

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

Also for cold weather camping what would need to be done? It says it has the Glacier package "Eagle HT's standard Glacier Package provides thermal protection by combining the most protected underbelly in the industry with the highest BTU output furnace in its class . The enclosed underbelly, tucked and foamed inside the I-beam rails, features blown heat and triple-insulated holding tanks."

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

I will have to call the dealer and see what hitch they plan to use. I know they said the cost was $800 for the hitch.

RE: Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

I am new to 5th wheel so what does one look for in a hitch? I guess I thought it was like travel trailers where a hitch is a hitch what matters is the weight distribution. The trailer we are looking at has the Reese Revolution on it so I thought I would be good to go. I am open to some education here.

Thoughts on 2012 JAYCO EAGLE 26.5 RLS S-LITE HT

This is the exact trailer we are looking at: http://www.trailsiderv.net/rv/2012-JAYCO-EAGLE-PW-26.5-RLS-S-LITE-HT-11835 I have a Jayco now and I am very happy with the quality and customer service. The dealer is willing to sell us the new Jayco for $26,500 out the door with a brand new 5th wheel hitch installed in my truck. I have tried messaging owners of this exact trailer but have not heard back from them, would like some info in anyone has any. Also how does that price sound, anything I am missing that I would need besides a hitch installed in my truck (has integrated brake controller).

RE: Hitch problem - Can't disconnect!(UPDATE)

Sounds like the old hitch latch to me. The latch on those hitches not only lift up but you have to push them back also. I had that problem the first time I ever used that type of hitch. It's not like the old boat trailer or utility trailer hitches that just lift up. When we got our new Jayco this year this happened to me. I was spraying it down with oil and whacking it but no luck. I crawled underneath with a large hammer and pry bar to pry the mech open and then saw how it worked, man I felt stupid.

RE: what hitch if any?

I think he means he towed it with just a ball on the hitch not the bumper, and not a weight distribution hitch. I would look into getting a weight distribution hitch with anti-sway. It is not mandatory per the law but it makes for a more comfortable safer ride that is better for the tow vehicle. This is the one I have for my camper and I have been happy with it for the price. http://www.amazon.com/Camco-48058-Elite-Weight-Distributing/dp/B005SB6S3Y?tag=amaz98-20

RE: What are you towing your small TT with?

Our 26 foot (29 foot bumper to hitch) Jayco 264BH gets towed with a 2005 F250 Super Crew PowerStroke diesel. Total overkill but we also tow long heavy 5th wheel horse trailers.

RE: V8 vs V10

I had both, and a diesel. I prefer the v10 without question. Hated the diesel, but that is just me. The v10s were super at towing, but awful as a dial driver....12 mpg all the time. Hemi gets 8-9 mpg towing but 17 hiway. If all I did was tow, I would only own a v 10 Why did you hate the diesel?

RE: V8 vs V10

Nope. Not being sarcastic at all. Pulling with a dually is no comparison. It is a 6000lb trailer no reason at all to get a dually. And yes I am fully aware of what it is like towing with a dually.

RE: V8 vs V10

Go V8 diesel 3500HD SRW. - if you upgrade or tow in the mountains east or west you will have the towing power you need. Are you seriously recommending a 1 ton diesel for a 6000lb trailer? I would seriously recommend a dually. I hope you are being sarcastic.

RE: Need To Vent....

That's why many salesmen don't really take phone sales seriously I suppose. The trailer MAY have BEEN available an hour ago (nobody has signed a contract or placed a deposit on it) and in that hour it was purchased. It COULD have just been an error but could just as easily have changed status in that hour. When we purchased our trailer we had done all the research, and knew exactly what we wanted and were willing to pay. We drove to the dealer that was closest that had one. Walked in walked through it, offered what I was willing to pay, 10 minutes later I was signing papers and they were taking it in to get cleaned up for delivery. Totally possible it just sold in that amount of time.

RE: V8 vs V10

SOmehow I don't think your 31' travel trailer is under 7,000 pounds. Does it haev a slide out? A friend of mine with a 31' and a 10' long side out has a 9,500 - 10,500 pound travel trailer. I would recommend either the 6L V8 in the GMC's or 5.4L V8 in the Fords, or perhaps a 6.8L V10 in the Fords if you want a little more power and want to go over the hills a little faster. But the 5.4L has over 300 HP in a truck. A little less in a van like the E-350. If you have more than 3 kids, a E-350 is something to consider with a travel trailer. It will give them more seating options, and has more storage inside. You can also take the E-350 solo when you are going to hotels on vacation, with plenty of storage space, and not as much fuel as taking the trailer along. As for mileage, all will be very similar, getting about 8-10 MPG depending on how quickly you want to climb the mountains, and how fast you run on the freeway. Going 55 will save a lot of fuel compared to going 65. Fred. The biggest Apex on the market is on 7000lbs so I would say his numbers are more the correct. http://coachmenrv.com/products/apex.aspx?page=floorplandetails&floorplanid=4512
