RE: Water filter question

I don't know if this is true or not, but way back when we bought our first trailer the dealer told us the tanks should never be stored dry. For almost 30 years I have always left at least 5 gallons in all the tanks and the fresh water tank normally doesn't go below a 1/3.

RE: First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

Good luck with that. I hope you grease and bearings were warm so it flowed easily. I hopt that you turned each wheel while pumping the grease into the hub. Turning the wheel while pumping the grease is right from the Dexter manual. In an ideal situation, they work as designed. However, most people don't use them ideally. The rusult is pushing out the rear seal and greae contaminating the brake shoe and drums resulting in virutally no brakes. I hand pack only. Hoefully you did not blow the seal. Phillip I think it's funny when people assume they are the only ones around who can read directions. I did everything by the book. I think it's funny that someone would just pump grease into a hub & not actually pull it apart to inspect the bearings, to each their own I guess Do a web search for Dexter Easy Lube Axles. That is how they are made. There are plenty of YouTube videos that show how it's done as well.

RE: First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

Before you "repacked" did you pull the hub off the spindle and actually check the bearings and look to see how much grease was already in the hub? Nope that is the joy of the Dexter Easy Lube. The spindle is hollow, so the grease goes to the inside bearing and the pushes the old grease forward. You pump the grease in until you only have new grease coming out.

RE: First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

As long as you did not do it TOO fast. Slow easy pumping with a manual grease gun while continuously turning the wheel and it works great. Pumping too fast or too hard can push grease past the seals. I did the job with my 3 year old grandson asking me "what's that every 30 seconds" and then "borrowing" my tools. I would say there was absolutely no chance of going too fast! But seriously I can't imagine anyone using a manual grease gun could add the grease to fast.

First time using Dexter E-Z Lube axle

Today I repacked all the bearings on my FW. It's the first time I've used Dexter E-Z Lube axles, they made the job a breeze! The worst part of the whole job was that I left the FW in the backyard parked on decomposed granite. Using the jack and kneeling in the rocks were not ideal, so next year I will pull on to the driveway to do the job. One thing about it is I had to use more grease than packing the bearings the old way, but that's a fair trade off for how fast and easy the whole thing was.

RE: Front to rear Porpoising

Airbags completely stopped the purposing in my set up.

RE: To block or not to block...that is the question

I'm not a big fan of just blocks, I worry of the side to side stress. We raised ours with a 4" "box" that goes between the axles and the bottom of the FW. This way there is no way for flexing side to side.

RE: Help with propane issue

This happened to me once. I had to disconnect and then reconnect the bottles. I think they were vapor locked.

RE: Curb jumping options

I use to throw a timber I had cut at an angle in the gutter, but the last few years I have just backed over the curb. I haven't notice any damage on the tires on my current FW or on my last TT.

RE: Need a little advice.

I always run max PSI to keep side wall flexing to a minimum.

RE: Need a little advice.

My FW calls for 115 lbs of torque on the lugs and 10 ply tires should be 80psi (the side wall should have the specs)

RE: Battery Acid

I would say throw it on the charger and see if it will charge up. Those Interstate batteries are pretty tough. I would have used all distilled water.

RE: Battery Acid

I think you should be good then. I was quite impressed with how well my Bed Liner held up. Now I just need to get around to having it done in the new truck.

RE: Battery Acid

Same thing happened to me in my last truck and it took all the paint off, I mean all the way to bare metal. Had to do a spray in bed liner to cover it.

RE: Parking surfaces for 5er

I park on decomposed granite. After it is down for awhile it gets hard like concrete.

RE: Do I need a bearing repack?

I take it that your FW is new? If so I would think there would be no reason to repack them yet, but if you are concerned about it, just do it for the piece of mind it will give you..

RE: New chocks and new leveling boards ??

X-Chocks - I have a set of the yellow pads for the landing gear and rear Stabilizers. I use wood blocks under the tires.
