RE: First trip out!

I already have a tote on my shopping list. That will probably be my best bet. The fact that we survived 3 major storms was great! Only my thunder-phobic dog got worried - we had some major thunder and lightning going on!

First trip out!

I went out with the Kiwi for our first big trip - a 3 day agility trial. It was me, one daughter, and 4 dogs. The dogs slept in the rear bunk, the daughter slept in the dinette bed, and I slept in the front bunk. We made it through 3 major high-wind thunderstorms (two minor leaks - one at the top seal on the rear bunk, one I think the rain blew into that little space where the vinyl meets the trailer and just doesn't seal). One PUG blew off, but I saw it going and rescued it.
We had a lot of fun and the trailer was great. Perfect size and room for us. Discovered that the gray tank is a bit small for 2 of us needing showers every day for 3 nights. Will have to make sure I have a way to dump! And yes, we do navy showers.

RE: Carpeting idea

I just have runners and a couple of throw rugs in my trailer. They catch the dirt. I take them out, shake them, sweep the trailer, and we're done!

RE: Now we're rolling! (Equalizer and Prodigy)

I've found dealers seldom setup a WDH properly. Do the measurements yourself and see how they did.
60-65 if fine on the interstate. Unless you're not in the right lane!
-- Chuck
Yes, I was in the right lane. :D I'm not going to piss everybody off by going that slow in the left lane!
I'll go do my measurements today - I assumed they'd be better at installing it than I am. But I will check.

RE: Now we're rolling! (Equalizer and Prodigy)

I think the vehicle is just too new for anybody to know what to do with it. That's why I'm giving it a couple of months, then trying again. Most of my trips with it will be to Tucson - about 75 miles away, so it's not like I'm pulling all day. About 5 trips a year to Phoenix - about 3.5 hours away, so again, easy to take some breaks along the way and let things settle down.

RE: Now we're rolling! (Equalizer and Prodigy)

I've been on the Traverse forum. Nobody there has been able to put on the cooler either. I took it to a transmission place, and on the Traverse forum, people have tried to get Chevy service depts to put one in. I haven't seen anybody succeed yet!

RE: Now we're rolling! (Equalizer and Prodigy)

I haven't added the cooler because nobody can figure out how to do it! I'll give everybody a couple of months to learn about the vehicle, then try again. I watched the gauges the whole way - temp never fluctuated at all (and it was 105 in Tucson! Ugh.)

RE: Digital Thermostat

That's interesting. Was the AC added to the trailer afterward? Is that why there's separate controls?
No, it's just a non-ducted AC. We had the same thing in our motorhome before we sold it. It just blows the cold air right from the AC unit into the trailer. Controls are on the unit. I didn't even realize trailers/rvs could have ducted air! All the ones I've seen have been non-ducted.

Now we're rolling! (Equalizer and Prodigy)

I drove the trailer about 75 miles today to get the Equalizer hitch installed, and they put the Prodigy in for me too (replacing the Pilot).
This was my first time driving on the interstate with it. On the way there, no problems with sway, even when trucks passed. The wind blew us a bit, but it did that after the Equalizer was installed too. And it probably helped that I didn't go over 60mph (and you know everybody in I-10 was hating me - 75mph zone and I was creeping).
I didn't hit anything or kill anybody, although the first turn I did with the Equalizer with its popping and creaking made me wonder at first!
I love the Prodigy. Much smoother and nicer braking.
Thanks for the advice on these two items. I don't feel a difference with the Equalizer yet, but I'm sure it will help in the long run.
The Traverse had no problems with the pulling. Normal gas mileage with it is 22 mpg. Pulling the trailer it got 11.8 mpg. No complaints there - the van I used to drive got 11 mgp on the highway, worse in the city. I'm ecstatic that I'm getting this good pulling the trailer!

RE: Digital Thermostat

I did a search last night and found that it would take a heck of a lot of wiring to hook the roof AC to the thermostat. So I would just use the thermostat for the heater. I'm not up to a major wiring job!

RE: Need advice on selling a HTT in today's market

When we bought our HTT, we put our 36' motorhome on Craigslist - pictures, list of repairs over past 2 years, etc. Within 2 hours we had 6 calls and the first lookers bought it. I did have it reasonably priced, so I'm sure that helped.
When we bought our HTT (just a month ago), there were 3 people going in to look at it that day. So I think the market is still good out there.

RE: Digital Thermostat

You are using these to control the AC? With the AC on top of the trailer, and the controller for the AC *on* the AC (so on the ceiling), how do you wire the thermostat into the AC?

RE: Show your mods!!

The hot water heater hose parts. . . I was going to take a picture of each part before I put it together, but before I could, DH grabbed it all and put it together. I think he was jealous of all the time I spent working on the trailer.
So it's the plumbing hose, and I got 1/2" connections on each end. The original mod I saw had one end descending to 3/8", but the valve I found was 1/2", so I got the 1/2" on each end. I got a 1/4 turn valve (easier than the multiple turn). And between the hose and the hot water heater was a 1/2" plastic plumbing nipple ( looked like this but was plastic).
Plumbers tape between all the connections and put it all together. Tested for leaks. . . no problems. Very easy mod and so useful.

RE: Show your mods!!

This weekend I did two mods based on ideas I got in this forum:
I put the drain hose on the hot water heater (I hate the drain plugs and trying to get it in and out).
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o25/SighsofmyLife/mod1.jpg
I made pvc racks to hold all the poles and long skinny things (in the front storage area).

RE: Messed up on towing weight

Thanks for posting that bulletin!
The problem I'm having with getting the cooler installed is the amount of work to do it - the transmission shop said they would have to remove the whole front of the vehicle and didn't know if they could get it back together properly again. And there's not a lot of info out there about the vehicle, so they weren't sure of all the info they needed.

RE: Messed up on towing weight

GM cannot retrofit it for the tow package (that's what I've been told at least).
I would love to try flyball, but we've never lived close enough to anybody doing it. We were an Army family for 21 years and didn't always live in thriving metropolis areas. :-D

want to replace pilot with prodigy

When the dealer put in our hitch and brake control, they put in a Pilot (I didn't know enough at the time to question this - trusted them to know what they were doing). Now I want to put in the Prodigy, but there is no plug. They hardwired the Pilot in.
Is there an easy fix for this, or will I have to take it in and pay somebody to do it?
