Pills, pills and more pills, ....Sheez-us-Christmas!

Anonymous Jr. takes more pills then anyone I know!
Prior to each meal he takes; (x1) METOCLOPRAMIDE 10MG Tab, (x1) Pepsid, (x2) Wal-Finate Antisitamine Tabs (which works best of the x3 over the counter stuff and x1 of the prescription stuff as well).
Breakfast we add a; Milk Thistle 175mg tab
As well as a Prednisone 05mg tab when he's really itch'in (spring time, up to 4 times a month)!
That makes, hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, 2 + 2 + 4 + 1 = Hmmmmmmmmmmm, 10? ... No, 9 pills a day!
So how many pills does your dog take a day?

RE: Allergic to chicken ???

Calvin takes, .... hold just a minute, ........ OK! Calvin takes METOCLOPRAMIDE 10MG TAB half an hour before eating to help his digestive system move his food through his system. Something to do with this stomach disease thing.

I just did a short 250 / 300 mile trip, and I noticed all the rest stops where completely full on I-10 during the night! On the way back, during day light hours, they were wide open!

RE: What do you think about having to have a Prescription

I can see the point of making a diet that is specifically made to be "not balanced" for a normal animal to consume, a prescription diet. And if claims are made that it affects health in a specific way, there's that to consider.
A hypo-allergenic diet, however, has no reason to be RX unless there's something about it (like a lack of a particular nutrient set) that makes it inappropriate for most animals. I know Hills and Royal Canin both make hypo-allergenic modified/low protein diets for dogs that are sensitive to protein. Those diets might not be appropriate as a "diet" for most dogs. But treats? Get real. Especially where it's something that's a "normal diet" made with novel protein/carb sources.
And apparently Royal Canin feels the same way since they let Entirely pets sell dozens of their foods, many of which are "prescription diets, in the Hills line," without a prescription. I didn't see the treats though, Lance. I guess you could call and check, or check at other pet food seller sites on the web.
Thanks Susan!

RE: What do you think about having to have a Prescription

Well as to my knowledge, there isn't any drugs in food, but food! Heck on second thought there otta be something in there since Anonymous Jr.'s dang Venison and Potato is around $80.00 to $100.00 buck'ah roohs a case.
But the main thing that get's me mad is you gotta have a prescrip to buy the dang thing! Which is a pain in the butt when you need it!

I think there's a blade of grass somewhere! You gotta look hard for it is all, but I'm purdy sure I seen one! But if there was one, Anonymous Jr. pee'd on it, and killed it I think.

RE: A good day!

Interesting... I buy non prescription items from Entirely Pets.com all the time but I never attempted to buy something like Renal formula food from them since it is readily available within a few miles and I have a prescription. The price on the website is a little less than what I pay but sometimes shipping charges eat up any savings. I might combine some of the food with a few other items next time I need something and get free shipping.
With that said, I would strongly suggest that anyone wanting to change to this diet to consult with their vet and have their cat examined BEFORE making the change even if you don't need a prescription on some websites.
Interesting thing going on now, prescription diet has always been a marketing designation rather than a legal one. Some states may vary and many individual businesses require a prescription. There has been a move to make prescription diets prescription under the regulation of the FDA as other prescription items. This may come to pass in the future.
Most prescription diets are not "ideal" diets for general use, but probably not a serious issue in most situations. It's just felt by many that the use should be under the direction of a veterinarian.
Doug, DVM
This is one area that I don't understand. This stuff is just food (with no drugs in it right?), so why the hassle about having to have a prescription?
I always thought it was a way to p*ss me off when I need to buy Anonymous Jr's hypo-allergenic treats and his Royal Canin Limited Ingredient Venison and Potato which at (depends where you are in the States) $80.00 to a $100.00 bucks a case! You'd think they'd make it easy to buy!
I mean aside from me, who in their right mind would spend that kind of bucks on food, right?
