RE: Caterpillar Diesel

'96 coach with a Cat 3176B engine, closing in on 100,000 miles and so far, knock on wood, the alternator has been the only issue. As far as servive goes, I find the comment regarding CAT/Cummin's mechanics interesting.... Ive taken my Cat to a Cummin's service center(Cummin's Cal Pacific in Ventura, Ca) without any issue whatsoever, matter of fact, the Cummin's guys were very comprehensive and competent in their knowledge of my particular engine.

Noisy Shopping Carts. Can't Walmart use some Oil on those wheels! lOL
This has something to do with the "Lippert Frames" and "Chinese Bombs" they use for tires on those carts! :D

RE: Fuel Filter Change Interval

I do all the filters (air, oil, 2 fuel) everytime I change the oil which is about once a year. The same goes for the Generator too. Im doing the differential next week and Im actually changing out the hydraulic fluid and filter.....the guy at the parts store said he never sells any of the reservoir filters cause hardly anyone does this change although I know Brett has (Wolfe10)...Ive seem it on different WEB sites. I know, Im rambling on...sorry :B

RE: Camping pet peeve

My suggestion is when you drop yourself into a large group of people which you do not know and are of varying levels of education, wealth and ideals that you leave your pet peeves at home.....relax
I read this and I stopped reading the rest of the Posts..... I could not have agreed more if I tried! :B

RE: Auxiliary outside canopy?

I have had one forever even though I think Ive set it up twice. This year Im going to get more use from it mainly due to Ill be staying longer at one place. Mine does have three sides to it and its an "Easy-Up" which I think is a Brand name?

RE: Thanks to my brother

I try not to crawl under the MH too often BUT it is amasing what you discover under there. Ive seen some of the same things you described, of course were talking bout a 96' coach. Fixed a couple of sheared bolts just last week.

RE: Boondocking pet dangers

I agree....you gotta keep the "kids" leashed. We're headed to Rattlesnake country in a few weeks and Ive already been instructing my resident dog walker(My wife), that she needs to keep the girls from poking their little heads into places they dont belong. I also told her she'll have to wait on me to walk with her so we both can keep our eyes peeled and carry a Big walking stick!

"MeadowCliff"....a very nice campground, we normally stop on our way up too. I actually like Topaz Casino/Campground, for the price and coupon books, it cant be beat. I dont gamble much but their drinks are always flowing freely...:B

RE: Cholodin supplement

Just to be clear about my "Coconut Oil" reference, the studies I read were concerning its use with our "furry" friends although I know its the latest craze with the human population too! :B

RE: How to support a jack knife sofa over hang

Well, I certainly know exactly what your referring to. My wife found a foot stool/rest at a Thrift store that has an angled cushion. I wedge this in the center of the overhang and it doesnt move at all. Makes for a very secure feeling!

RE: Cholodin supplement

On the subject of medications and supplements(and I dont mean to side tract this thread) but I was reading a few articles last week about Coconut oil both topically and ingested. It seems to be the latest and greatest thing since High Buckle shoes! :) They even claim that it helps with energy levels, dementia, digestion and many more benefits. Anyone have any first hand info? Im giving the "girls" one teaspoon a day with their meal...only for about three days now so havent noticed anything yet.

RE: 395 North to Lake Tahoe

Quite frankly, I always start my trips in the evening hours for many reasons. The obvious one, less traffic and wide open roads and with both of us being in the greater Southern Calif area, thats an important aspect and maybe not so important to others in a more rural area.
I like to take care of my diesel and there's no doubt that those grades we're speaking of are hard on any engine/motor, gas or diesel. I dont have the 3126 but Im still at 350 hp in my 3176(10.3 litre) and with my MH being 17 years old, pulling a toad and loaded to the hilt, Im still down to 3rd gear keeping my RPM up going up that grade outside of Bishop(or at least some portions of that grade). Last year, mistakenly, I did the Kingsbury grade out of Minden, Nv into Lake Tahoe, talk about a hill! I wont do that one again anytime soon. To me, its a fact of life in So Cal during the summer months....your arent going anyplace without hitting some heat and Id just as soon take it a tad easier with cooler temps in the PM/early AM hours. Its just something I do and everyone is different. Anyways, if your in or around Tahoe after July 7th, we'll be at Tahoe Valley for a couple of weeks...stop by and say Hi! :B

RE: 395 North to Lake Tahoe

Have to agree with the late night idea.....I will normally plan my trip so that I hit the grade out of Bishop in the cooler late night/early AM time period, besides I love that Rest area just before you get to the June Lake loop. It just so happens this year, Im going up the 99 to hit the American River first then to Lake Tahoe after but Ill still be doing this at night too.

RE: 395 North to Lake Tahoe

We'll be headed up that way in a few weeks also, staying at Ponderosa and then Tahoe Valley. I heard over on the TT Facebook page that the power at Snow Flower was out until Wednesday, construction dug up a Line or water flooded a vault. Guess that wont affect you though...just wanted to give you a heads up. Have a Great time!
