RE: Best App for Groc Shopping?
I use Out of Milk if I have more than a few things to buy. I like that I can add to it from the desktop and right before I go to the store, I will move the items around so that they match the aisles/departments.
At work, if I have just a few things to get, I'll often just jot it down on a tiny sticky note and stick that to my phone. Otherwise, I sometimes use S Memo (came with phone).
I'll sometimes do it on scratch paper at work, but I always have to rewrite it at the end so that I can arrange it. I have to be careful when doing that to make sure I get everything transferred. We don't really keep pens or paper at the house, so that is not a very good option for us.
RE: I turn my laptop on, then it proceeds to turn off and on.
We had a desktop computer do the same thing here at work recently. You would hear the fans come on and a few beeps, it would look like it was going to boot for a few seconds and then it would shut itself off. Wait about 5 seconds and then repeat.
I'm not sure "technically" what they replaced - just said it was the power supply and swapped it out. That would be external on a laptop. Did you notice if it was charging the new battery?
RE: CROCK POT ROAST TO DIE FOR
I don't think any of my sauce packets were 1.25 ounces, but I just went with 1 of each. I've got this going today and looking forward to seeing how it turns out tonight.
RE: Guess i don't understand it
My iPad is the one item I wish I didn't have. It's too big for me to keep with me, but too small for other things. I used it the most as an e-reader, but I find it pretty heavy so I haven't used it for that in quite a while. In real life applications, I use my phone (hours a day), PC with multiple monitors (at work), and occasionally a laptop. At my parent's house, I find myself waiting for a turn at the laptop when my iPad is sitting right next to me. Just a personal preference.
RE: Pumpkin Whip Dessert?
This is a low cal version, but you could alter it however you wanted. Maybe this will give you an idea. I have it on my list of things to try, but I never can remember to look for the small glasses/spoons.

RE: Weight Watcher Recipes
I'm not doing WW, but have started watching what I eat. I've been trying several new recipe sites, and the majority of them have the WW points, points plus, and the regular nutrition posted, so they match whatever you are doing.
I don't want to infringe on anyone's copyright by a direct copy/paste, so I'm going to post links directly to the recipes. I'd love to discuss any of them. These are the recipes that my husband, who is not on a diet, has given two thumbs up and urged me to keep on making them.
Turkey Chili Taco Soup This one is so good with a bit of 2% mexican cheese blend and a dollup of lite sour cream.
Healthy Baked Chicken Nuggets These are so flavorul you don't need a dipping sauce. For leftovers, I added them to a salad.
Beef Barley Soup This tastes best the next day - the barley really soaks up the broth. I make it using thin sirloin that I cut up myself.
Dad's Creamy Cauliflower Soup
Petite Turkey Meatloaves
Skinny Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
Skinny Chicken Sour Cream Enchiladas
Crock Pot Chicken Ranch Tacos Note on this one - use low sodium taco seasoning and broth if possible.
RE: Blender that crushes ice
The ninja line works great. For my camper, I would just choose one of the cheaper models - I think they even have one called a frozen drink maker.
RE: Dish Network & AMC
Yes, I was glad that I checked my email before bed. Already missed The Walking Dead (and maybe they even played it twice), but it came on again at 11pm, so I was able to set it up to record it. I had watched the first episode last week and was just about ready to buy the season on itunes, which we did for Breaking Bad. Glad I didn't do anything yet. Still not sure what we will do when we move. We knew we would wait until the move to decide to switch to Direct or keep Dish. We were certain we were switching...guess we will have to rethink that in a few months.
RE: electric ice tea maker and best brand tea
We use the Lipton gallon size tea bags (one large bag) inside a small coffee pot (5-6 cups). Makes one gallon of tea the way we like it. If you want it stronger, add more water to the coffee maker and run it through again with the same tea bag. My mother tried to repeat in her large coffee pot and it was too strong for her to make just a gallon.
We pretty much only drink tea at home, so we go through a gallon a day if we are home. We've used the Mr. Tea (or whatever the tea maker is called), the microwave, heating water in the stove, etc., and we keep coming back to the small coffee pot. It's easy, quick, and the perfect concentration for us.
RE: Are there real people working for Google?
The problem only started three days ago. I use IE8 as browser. Ihave a Windows PC using Windows 7. Been this way almost three years now.
That corresponds to about when MS issued a critical security update of IE. I would try doing a reset as some settings may have been altered during the update. But, curious as to why you are not using IE9 or another browser such as Firefox or Chrome?
Good point here. I am a creature of habit. I make updates reluctantly because I get tired of having to re-learn all the nuances to new software. I think I need to re-think my position on this because I suspect it may be something in my browser causing this.
As added info, I know I had an update on Monday. Using IE9. I really dislike Firefox, but I don't have the same problem when I use it.
RE: Are there real people working for Google?
The exact steps you outlined have worked flawlessly for us over the last few years. There has to be something wrong with your browser or computer. Pop-up blocker maybe???
When did this problem first start?
What browser (type and version #) do you use?
What computer Operarating System are you using? (Windows, Mac) and what is the version?

I tried the control key thing-did nothing. I turned off pop up blocker to no avail. What is weird is first thing this morning I sent an e-mail to friend and their address I selected from contact list went right to the "To" window-it worked. Then I tried it again and I coudn't get it to work. Very weird.
Just for grins I did it on my side. Attempt 1 worked just fine. After that, I had your same problem.
RE: A question @ All in one Printers?
We have the HP 6700 model and got the dreaded Printer Failure Ink Failure message last week after only having it about a month. It doesn't have a removable print head, so there was only so much that could be done. Tried everything from the HP site, anything we could find online (even for other printers) and then spent time with HP support repeating many of the things we had already tried. No luck. They are shipping out a replacement unit and we will ship this one back.
RE: Friday's derecho....
My storm page says another one is predicted tonight. Has anyone else heard that?
Texas Storm Chasers
?-- An extremely dangerous, life threatening severe weather situation is expected this evening from New York City southward through Philadelphia, to Baltimore. --
This graphic shows the probability (in percent) that a location will receive winds of at least 58 MPH, but likely upwards towards 70-80 MPH this evening. A derecho, which is a long-lived line of thunderstorms with prolific damaging winds, will continue to fly eastward and impact New York City, Newark, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Dover, and Baltimore by 9 PM EDT. Winds could approach 80 MPH in some locations, causing widespread power outages and downing thousands of trees. This line of storms could produce tornado-like damage over large areas. PLEASE tell friends and family that they need to have a way to receive weather warnings this evening. Do NOT be on the roads when this line of storms as several individuals were killed last month when the June 29th Derecho impacted the NE USA. Go to a safe place, such as a basement or interior room if needed. This is a very dangerous situation.
RE: carecredit?
Thanks Allison. I wonder why people don't just use regular credit cards?
If my understanding is correct, if you set up the CareCredit correctly and the doctor/dentist/veterinarian bills correctly (not like the one in Allison's example), then you have a certain number of months to repay at very low/no monthly interest. As opposed to typical credit cards which generally have a much higher interest rate.
Exactly. If our charge had qualified, and we had it paid off in 12 months, there would have been no interest charged.
RE: carecredit?
We used it several years ago when my husband needed some dental work. I believe we got screwed on it, but not by the credit card company. The deal with the card stated that if you made a purchase of X amount of dollars, then you had Y amount of months to pay if off without interest. We went over the estimated costs with the dental office, etc, and we would qualify for it. (The dental office is the one who told us about the card.) In the end, they broke his procedures up into multiple appointments and would not let us prepay or carry a balance (found this out after the appointment). We did not have another credit card at this point in our lives and had to still use the care credit card. Since it was divided into multiple, smaller purchases, we did not qualify for the no interest deal.
We changed dentist offices after that.
I would consider using care credit again if needed, but be sure to read the terms very carefully and make sure how you are billed and how the bill will be paid will make the most of the situation.
RE: Need some ipad advice - PURCHASED, thoughts on p3.
I would like to point out, as has been previously, they is no need to activate an iPad that has a cellular chip; it can be used exactly as a non-cellular iPad with the addition that it has GPS. Specifically, it could have been used in conjunction with your phone.
Yeah, or you just spend $100 on the GPS receiver that plugs in to the wifi only iPad or connects with bluetooth. I knew that before making my final decision. After I found the new data plans earlier, I did a bit more research and they say that if I do the plan where I make my phone a hotspot, the iPad will be able to use the GPS from my phone. Since I haven't activated this dataplan, I can't say for certain this works.
I have GPS on my phone and a portable eTrex if I need it, but I don't travel anywhere where I have ever felt it necessary, just used it for playing around mostly. To me, it would not have been worth the extra $77 - $130 just for GPS on a larger screen. The iPad will locate my general location based on the wifi hotspots if I have wifi coverage. If not, I also have navfree downloaded so that I can use the maps without network coverage. It may be an extra step to manually move your location into the window versus it doing it automatically (or clicking on one button), but that's fine with me.
**I do think that it is a bit shady that this difference between the two isn't publicized more. For someone like me that doesn't really use GPS, there are plenty of work arounds to get me to my location and even buying an external GPS or using my phone as a hotspot wcould be cheaper. For someone expecting to get that right out of the box without needing to rely on any other device or file, I think they would be PO'd.
RE: Need some ipad advice - PURCHASED, thoughts on p3.
Wanted to update something that I did not realize last week when I was making my decision, but now makes me very glad I did stay with the wifi only version.
I saved $77.04 by choosing the wifi only version of the 32GB.
If I were to have gotten the cellular version, I would have gone with the $30, 3GB data plan. My phone currently has a 2GB data plan that I pay $25 for. So, that would be $55 for 5GB of data.
I haven't updated my phone in a year or so, so I wasn't aware of the new AT&T data plans. Now for $50, I can change my phone plan to a 5GB data pro plan that allows hot spot/tethering. I could use it to provide data to my iPad.
I always have my phone on me. If I decide that I want to use my iPad while on the go, (for some of the reasons you all have provided in this thread), I can change to that dataplan and come out $60 cheaper per year in data charges, and $77 dollars saved by not buying the cellular model. So, $137 savigs the first year and $60 each year after. If someone else were buying the iPad and was responsible for the full price, that would be over $130 savings alone on the iPad, so $190 savings the first year.
**BTW, have had the iPad a week now. I suppose I like it okay, but just not sure exactly what to use it for in my personal life. To force myself to become more familiar with it, I have put a few books and games on it. Added a grocery list app. Practiced with the note taking app, although since getting it I haven't had any meetings to attend.
Work wise, for the purpose we purchased them for, it is going to work out great. This one app allows the forms that we need filled out to be downloaded once and then they can be filled out at anytime without network service. Once you get back to where you have cellular or wifi coverage, they can be submitted. We are running into more and more buildings where the cellular coverage is horrible inside and schools that are not giving out their wifi passwords. The ability to work offline in a set location, save the form, and submit it later is a must. To the best of our knowledge, there isn't an android app out yet that worked this way, which is why it had to be the iPad vs an android or windows based tablet.
RE: Need some ipad advice - PURCHASED, thoughts on p3.
Thanks again. No want or need for GPS. I have that area well covered if needed.
Right now I haven't done anything. There are some problems purchasing the program that they are buying the ipads for. (Silly state agency and all their purchasing rules!) Until they get all that figured out, I'm not spending a drop of my own money.
