RE: oxidation on fiver

Using a WHITE 3M scrubby, (not the green ones, they will scratch!) wet down the surface, dampen the scrubby, apply some BKF, and apply in a circular motion. Here is a link to the whole process. It's the third post down: Red Max Pro Tutorial Remember RMP is no longer available. Go to Lowes and get ZEP Wet Look. Same thing.

RE: oxidation on fiver

NewGlass2 solves that problem, developed for boats. Jim It looks like great stuff! But at $39.95 for enough for one RV treatment VS $14.95 for a gallon of ZEP that will do your RV plus three of your closest friends' RVs, it's no contest.

RE: oxidation on fiver

I had the same issue and I gotta say once you do the barkeepers friend the ZEP high traffic floor finish makes it look like new again. I read it also keeps you from having to do the bar keepers friend again for a long time. Going on three years with my BKF and now obsolete Red Max Pro and still looking good!

RE: Chronic problem with Atwood water heater

If you do narrow it to the circuit board, I would recommend replacing it with a Dinosaur Board. Made in the USA and is a quality, robust product.

Kudos to JustBlinds.com!

i purchased 2" Faux Wood Blinds for our fulltime fifthwheel 5 or 6 years ago to replace the forever breaking Day/Night shades that came with the unit. This year, while in Arizona, in an attempt to keep the unit cooler, I put up Reflectix foil on the south facing windows. But in an attempt to save effort I put the foil in a position that sandwiched the blinds between the window and the foil. This created an enormous amount of heat that warped the plastic blades of the blind. i resigned myself to replacing the whole blind and wrote an email to the company asking if they still had my records so I could order the same product. They not only had the records, they offered to send me a complete replacement blind at no charge! I even explained it was my fault. Eric explained it was covered under JustBlinds.com Lifetime Warranty. I just wanted to pass on a compliment to a company that goes beyond normal customer service. This is a company that should deserve a second look when purchasing window treatments.

RE: Ouch ! obsolete oven parts are expensive !

Just install an in line shut off valve on the gas line to the thermostat. That way you can still use the burners

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

I used barkeeper's friend. Than the Red Max Pro/ Zep treatment. the barkeeper's friend worked really well. Down side, I worked really hard. X2!!! But you only need to do it every two years or so!

RE: Caulking woes.

You can use a bamboo skewer too. Works great!

RE: Red Max Pro or Equivalent

2 years on mine too. Need a touch up now, but if I was still using standard auto wax, I would have had to redo it at least 3 times by now. Snow, sun, sand storms etc, and it still looks great. Best move I have made as far as exterior care.

RE: Are Camp Grounds Really that Safe?

We very rarely stay in commercial campgrounds, preferring boondocking and camp hosting at state and county campgrounds. When we do stay in commercial campgrounds, I avoid ones that have shabby, longterm tenants that have no sense of appearance. Broken down cars, lean to sheds, etc are signs of potential problem.

RE: Zep Wet Look miracle

There is a product designed for stripping the acrylic coating, called "Heavy Duty floor Stripper". Haven't used it yet, as the RMP Is still doing great after two years .

RE: Zep Wet Look miracle

Going on two years with my RMP application. Can't believe how good it still looks! It has taken Oregon rain storms, Washington snow/ ice storms, Arizona sun and sand storms and still shines like the day I did it.

RE: Ironing Board for Motorhome

A friend made one for us that fit in the cabinet sleeve where I cutting board goes. Just the support goes into the void, then the ironing board part sticks out about 3 feet. We store it under the mattress.

RE: BLM Alone Camping Tonight!

Great pictures, thanks for sharing! Glad you had a good desert camping experience. Only advice I give folks for desert boondocking, enjoy he solitude and don't do what I did: spend the evening watching "The Hills Have Eyes"!

RE: Full-timing in an older RV and upkeep ...

My 16 year old Alpenlite is still going strong as our full time home. The appliances can all be replaced. I would be looking at the structural integrity of your unit. Is the roof holding up well? Regular inspections up and down and preventive maintenance will give you years of service. Good luck on your adventures!

RE: Small 2-4 Person Boat?

X2 on the Porta-bote. Indestructible, easy to row and unsinkable. Get the largest size; not much more expensive but more cargo capacity. Stay away from the blow-ups that will rip when you get near a rock or sharp stick. Dick, the material used in the Sea Eagle line is not the material used in cheap air mattresses. I've been using mine for almost 30 years, through rapids, sharp rocks and sharp fishing gear and have Never had a puncture or leak. If the opportunity presents itself, take another look at the SeaEagle line of products.
