RE: Winshield and Tire Covers

I had a cover for my windshield custom made at a local upholstery shop. They installed the twist clips on the coach as part of the deal. We picked the color we wanted that matched our coach. The whole thing was $100 including installing the 8 clips. That cover really helps when the sun shines on the windshield full blast. Keeps it cooler inside.
My tire covers were purchased at camping world. They are a heavy material which keeps the uv rays out. They help keep your wheels clean as they prevent splashing and also dogs and cats from spraying them. Had a problem with a neighbor's cat doing that.
I don't cover my mirrors nor windshield wipers. I replace the wipers every year just because.

RE: Workhorse Air Intake and rain

Mine has the air intake up at the top of the engine compartment. The big black tube also has a drain at the bottom with a rubber valve that allows the water to drain out.
That rubber valve has to be squeezed every now and then as it tends to stick together.
I've driven in some terrible downpours and never had a problem.

RE: Rubber Roof Wrinkles

I have seen trailers going down the road with the rubber roof puffed up like a big ballon. I don't know what their roof looks like when they are not moving, whether it would have wrinkles or not.
I'd suggest driving it at freeway speeds while someone follows and see if the roof is puffing up.

RE: Got to love it....

That's why I never go into Flying J, Loves or any of the discount gas stations. And, I suspect, you won't either after this.
There are almost always a ton of people driving around in cramped quarters trying to angle in on a pump that's open.
When people say they are saving money by buying gas at the discount stations I wonder how much they save after repairing the coach.

RE: Love's no more

Jarlaxle...........You're pretty lucky.
But I wonder if all those stations charge evreybody an extra 3% that would cover the actual cost they pay to credit card companies and the guy that pays cash is actually paying the 3% even though he didn't use a credit card.
I know for a fact they have to pay the credit card companies a certain percentage of the sales amount placed on a credit card.
I think it's all a big game in any case.

RE: Battery Disconnect

Remember that disconnecting the chassis battery will remove the holding voltage for all the computers in the engine and transmission as well as the radio and other entertainment equipment on the MH. I do not know how this will affect yours but you will find out quickly. Probably not much on that year model but the later models can be much more of a problem.
Badeye
I have a battery disconnect built in from the factory for the engine battery and have never had a problem with losing all my "setting" for the engine/transmission.
But you have a valid point. It seems like they would all be lost. Now you've got me wondering!

RE: Coolent leak on 8.1L

I had a 2003 GMC pickup with the 8.1. It went in the shop twice for coolant leaks. They were the ones that Clay L mentioned.
I've not had any coolant leaks on my current 8.1.
22%Over........ Thanks for the tip on the handheld inspection camera. I'm headed to Harbor freight tomorrow for a $19.95 cordless drill and will probably get that camera also. Didn't know they had such a thing.
I have several expensive cordless drills that have bad chargers or bad batteries. The chargers are over a hundred bucks and the batteries ain't cheap. No more $200 drills that cost another $100 to keep going.

RE: frustrated in rv storage

If the battery is losing charge while disconnected I would suspect the battery is bad.
The engine batteries can be recharged and should work OK.

RE: Extra Long Sewer Hose

I've run about 20' of PVC sewer pipe to my sewer drain outlet on the house.
I connect my regular sewer hose from the coach to a fitting on the end of the pvc pipe.

RE: replacing shocks

Don't know if you've ever changed shocks on anything before but Toolslinger's advice about the band is important.
I had some real fun trying to compress a shock that opened all the way. I won't mess with them anymore.
Deen....You said you've done your fronts several times. Was that on the same rig and, if so, why so many times?

RE: WHERE TO BUY WATER FILTER CARTRIDGES, DRINKING WATER FAUCET?

I think you could pretty much adapt any filter for it if it uses plastic lines.
Have you tried Googling the numbers that are on the exsisting filters? You don't need to know the brand name when you Google. Just enter the numbers.

RE: Love's no more

I can't think of a gas station I've ever been in that didn't charge extra for using a credit card.
Are there a lot of them somewhere that don't charge extra for using a credit card?

We stay in ours beside our house when we have lots of company.
Also anytime we bought a new RV we always stayed in it overnight before going on a trip with it.

RE: Annual Maintenance Cost

My maintenance costs will be different than yours as mine is a gas rig.
However, for my coach to sit beside my house and never go anywhere for a year costs me $1,700. That's $1000 for insurance and $700 for tags here in California.
Last year my tags on that coach cost me $500.
As the coach gets older the tags go up. Welcome to California.
So keep that in mind when you are calculating cost.

RE: How does the US Gear Toad Brake System Work?

I've used mine for about five years now. Moved it from our first toad (Suzuki XL7) to our current toad (2000 Lexus RX300). Works quite well.
I am wondering what is causing poster 427435's frequent failures. I've not read of very many problems with U.S.Gear braking systems. I'll bet he's wondering too.
