RE: Cold travel

An easy way to clean the underside of your coach is to put a lawn sprinkler on a hose and drag it underneath the entire length of your rig a few times.
Water turned on, of course.

RE: Carbon Monoxide Detector

Thanks for the heads up. Also had a friend who died of CO2 poisoning.
I would add to this post by suggesting that everybody buy a few extra fire extinguishers. The one that comes with the coach is a sad affair.
You also need to shake the extinguisher every few months so the material doesn't get too compacted.
I keep extra extinguishers available on both sides of my rig in compartments that are unlocked while travelling.

I got my progress report/update yesterday (Sat. 12th) was disappointed that I'll have to wait another 4 months for the proper fix. John

I didn't see any mention of a projected date.
If I were a betting man I'd bet it'll be longer than that until a part is actually available at my location.

RE: Tying down automatic awning

If it's bad enough to where you have to tie your awning down then it's bad enough to retract it.
I've had two awnings blown off. Now I never leave the campground with the awning out.

RE: Transmission Fluid Gritty Checked Cold

I've checked mine cold a few times and never saw anything like you describe. I wonder if that's more of a Ford related issue with their particular transmission fluid requirements.
Mine is an Allison 1000 and I'm wondering if anybody with an Allison has seen this phenomenon. I do change mine at 25,000 miles and the Allison has a spin-on filter that I have changed twice now so that may trap the substance before I see it.

Could you explain this a little bit more? I'm not familiar with that technique.

Got mine today.
They are working on it.
My kids used to work on cleaning their rooms.
Workhorse and my kids have something in common.

RE: Who shuts off their water?

Some have mentioned they use a water pressure regulator and believe this prevents the problem. It doesn't. It will keep your pressure at about 35 to 40 lbs but plumbing can fail at that pressure too.
Mine has a built in regulator and stll had a fitting break.
I have a pressure meter I use sometimes just to see what the various campgrounds pressures are. I have seen one at 95 lb. That campground informed you when you registered that they had very high water pressure and to use a regulator.
They sold regulators at three times the price you could buy one for at Walmart.

RE: Campground Nashville area

I think I would go to a park, any park, and stay there for a week or so while I checked out all the other parks.
We've stayed at the Yogi Bear Park and found it to be nice.

RE: water ponding

We just don't worry about it.
When we close the slides after it rains my wife brings them half way in and counts to ten before closing all the way.
The beach ball idea wouldn't work for us. That baby would wind up all mangled sooner or later.

RE: Wet Inside Windshield

It's normal.
We always keep a window cracked in the front of the coach and an exhaust vent fan going in the rear of the coach when sleeping at night.
One time we tried it with everything closed and it looked like someone had hosed down the inside of the windshield.

RE: US maps protocall

Ours shows the states we've camped in.
The reason I like the maps is that it sometimes helps me answer questions for people based on where they have travelled.
For example, a person who has camped only in Florida may not be aware of the things one should know about travelling out west in mountains and high winds, etc.
If they've only travelled in the deep south they may not be aware that campgrounds close in the north during the winter.

RE: Newbe with 2 questions

You need to determine if your coach charges the batteries when you are plugged in to shore power.
If the coach is trying to charge the batteries and you apply an external charger to that system I suspect you may create some problems.
So first determine what charging arrangment the coach has built into it. I would really be surprised if there were no charging system already in place.
If there is no charging system in stalled then your process will work the way you described. Make sure the batteries have sufficent water in them. I have to add water to mine about three times a year.
Do NOT charge them with low water levels.
Can't help you on the motorcycles.

RE: Who shuts off their water?

The exact same thing happened to me. However we were out exploring Quartzite at the time. I got a call from the campground.
Sir your coach has water running out of it so we shut off the water.
Looked like a small lake when we got back. The plastic water line connector had broken at the base of the toilet. I now know a fair amount about Pex water lines. Now I also carry spare Pex connectors.
Since then we always turn off the water at the site when we leave.

I'm curious about the hole you were cutting for a compartment.
Were you adding a compartment?

RE: Winshield and Tire Covers

I had a cover for my windshield custom made at a local upholstery shop. They installed the twist clips on the coach as part of the deal. We picked the color we wanted that matched our coach. The whole thing was $100 including installing the 8 clips. That cover really helps when the sun shines on the windshield full blast. Keeps it cooler inside.
My tire covers were purchased at camping world. They are a heavy material which keeps the uv rays out. They help keep your wheels clean as they prevent splashing and also dogs and cats from spraying them. Had a problem with a neighbor's cat doing that.
I don't cover my mirrors nor windshield wipers. I replace the wipers every year just because.

RE: Workhorse Air Intake and rain

Mine has the air intake up at the top of the engine compartment. The big black tube also has a drain at the bottom with a rubber valve that allows the water to drain out.
That rubber valve has to be squeezed every now and then as it tends to stick together.
I've driven in some terrible downpours and never had a problem.

RE: Rubber Roof Wrinkles

I have seen trailers going down the road with the rubber roof puffed up like a big ballon. I don't know what their roof looks like when they are not moving, whether it would have wrinkles or not.
I'd suggest driving it at freeway speeds while someone follows and see if the roof is puffing up.

RE: Got to love it....

That's why I never go into Flying J, Loves or any of the discount gas stations. And, I suspect, you won't either after this.
There are almost always a ton of people driving around in cramped quarters trying to angle in on a pump that's open.
When people say they are saving money by buying gas at the discount stations I wonder how much they save after repairing the coach.

RE: Love's no more

Jarlaxle...........You're pretty lucky.
But I wonder if all those stations charge evreybody an extra 3% that would cover the actual cost they pay to credit card companies and the guy that pays cash is actually paying the 3% even though he didn't use a credit card.
I know for a fact they have to pay the credit card companies a certain percentage of the sales amount placed on a credit card.
I think it's all a big game in any case.
