RE: How old is too old?

I have always believed it is best to get one from a private owner within 5 years as they are still eligible for extended warrantees.

RE: Lead purity in AGMs

Valve regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries are commonly further classified as: Absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery Gel battery ("gel cell") An absorbed glass mat battery has the electrolyte absorbed in a fiber-glass mat separator. A gel cell has the electrolyte mixed with silica dust to form an immobilized gel. While these batteries are often colloquially called sealed lead–acid batteries, they always include a safety pressure relief valve. As opposed to vented (also called flooded) batteries, a VRLA cannot spill its electrolyte if it is inverted. Because AGM VRLA batteries use much less electrolyte (battery acid) than traditional lead–acid batteries, they are sometimes called an "acid-starved" design.

RE: TT elite membership - is it worth it?

I am a full timer and have been a Elite member of Thousand Trails since 05. Back then it was private, under different owners, and public was not allowed without invite. Now with the public able to camp and visit for day use only, thefts and unruly children have become a problem. The public has no vested interest in the operations and maintenance of the campgrounds. But if you take precautions and members report problem campers, things will get better. If you use your TT membership at least 30 days a year, you will get your return on the dollar. With averaging (LOW) a nite of camping at $24 a night x 30 days equals $720I

RE: Kennel at yosemite

Pets are allowed jn Yosemite. A boarding kennel is available at the Yosemite Valley Stable from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Plan ahead if you intend to use this service. Written proof of immunizations (rabies, distemper, parvo, and bordetella) must be provided. Dogs must be at least 20 pounds. Smaller dogs may be considered if you provide a small kennel of their own. Pets are boarded in the day time only and food is not allowed due to wildlife management concerns. To make reservations or find out more about boarding your pets in Yosemite Park, please call (209) 372-8348. Cost: $9.50/day.

RE: Non-skid ramp gate

If it were me I would try some commercial low pile carpet strips on the ramp. If it works well you can cover the whole ramp in in. Sounds like a ready made Slip and Slide when wet and a breeding ground for mildue.

RE: futon topper

I like the air beds myself, fully adjustable. Select Comfort Sleep Number air beds have the best warrantee 20 yr. :D My Select Comfort bed dates back to 1993 and no problems. It is the most comfortable be in the RV. Memory foam depending upon the manufacturer can become hot (sweat) after a while. A cloth fabric mattress must be inner spring if you want comfort. It is heavier of the 3. Don't forget access. Mattress must fit thru the door and bend to get into the location desired. Select a mattress that fits your:Z back. Don't want to wake up :M grumpy.

RE: Non-skid ramp gate

To seal the ramp from water, you need to can clean the deck to clean wood. This will allow you to inspect for water damage and dry rot. Add a base coat of fiberglass resin by roller (with choice of coloring) and let dry. Lightly sand to roughen and add second coat of resin and sprinkle ground walnut shells onto the surface. Another thin coat of resin can be applied to lock in the shells. This type of rough decking is found on many commercial fishing boats. Walnut shells are extremely hard and provide a permanent non-slip surface in rough waters, in hot and cold temperatures. My Dad did this to the deck of his salmon boat. He was a DIYer. :S Oh yeah, if you have any zink or plated screws on your ramp, replace them with stainless before they have a chance to rust tight.

Golf Carts

When in some campgrounds, at times I am a distance from the laundry, club house, general store and showers. Sometimes It's not practical to alk great distances or ride my harley as some roads are gravel and carrying capacity is limited. SO I got myself a new :C Cricket SW3 . Being only 32 inch wide, it fits easily along side my Harley in my toy hauler. With the fold down rear seat I have a box for my dog, groceries, tackle box & ice box and other stuff. It travels across gravel, off road across areas I can't take my cycle.
