RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Thats what this is all about. Helping each other out and sharing experiences. Hope others take my advice and call to verify there insurance coverage. Then again, when I first called I was assured that I was covered for theft when it came to the contents of my trailer. My own insurance office didn't even understand the policy they sold me. You may want to get it in writing. We are still waiting for a call back from Allstate. They are still "looking into" there own policy to make sure that we were not mis-informed about it. Funny thing is no one is calling us when it comes to there "investigation". hmmmm

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Yes. We have everything covered by Allstate. Allstate did give us that optio , to claim it on our homeowners covererage. That would be a $1500 deductible if we claimed it on our homeowners. That is why I purchased the RV coverage including "contents coverage". I'm still waiting for Allstate to get back to me. They are still "looking into it"

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Just hung up with my Allstate insurance broker. They called me to let me know that the "Customer Advocate" was still looking into my case and will get back to me as soon as they hear from the Advocate. I asked what the "Advocate" is working on. My broker told me the Advocate will researched the case and see if I was misinformed a out my policy not covering the contents of my trailer in case of theft. Funny thing is the Advocate has yet to contact me so I really don't know what this person is looking at. Also, I again asked my broker if it is true that Allstate does not cover the contents of a travel trailer if their is a loss from theft. She said "yes"", that is true, Allstate doesn't cover the contents if there is loss by theft". So. If you have Allstate insurance and you think your policy covers your contents think again. Every other insurance company seems to offer this coverage but Allstate. Too bad they didn't make this clear when I PURCHASED "Contents Coverage". Again, just sharing to help others out there out.

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Well I spoke to my agent today. He informed me that an "advocate" from Allstate is now looking into our claim and he is waiting for the "advocate" to get back to him and he would then get back to me. I'm just amazed that I have to wait for almost 3 weeks just to see if they are going to actually cover the policy that they sold me. It's really ashamed that they are dropping the ball like this. Like I said earlier, don't just read your policy but call your agent and ASK them if your contents are covered from theft. I talked to the manager of my agents office today. He explained how sorry they were for the "misunderstanding" and that they still "looking into the misunderstanding". I asked him if I could actually buy a policy from Allstate that would cover contents of my travel trailer from theft. He told me that he wasn't sure if they offer that. Really? He didn't even know! I then told him, "Then how did you sell me a policy for coverage of the contents of my travel trail when you don't even know HOW your company covers it"? I also told him how I asked another agent at his office over the phone to review my policy with me on the phone and she informed me that I was indeed covered from theft when actually I have since learned that I wasn't. So with that in mind, even if they tell you that your contents are covered, you better get it in writing. I've had this policy since 1996. I've been with this agent in Spring Texas the whole time. The are still "looking into it". I'm not very happy and am just sharing this so it doesn't happen to anyone else. Oh, and they did offer me my years premium back if I'm not satisfied with there payout on the claim. So the total claim is $3100. The years premium is $250. Really? Amazing... In other words, if you don't like it take your money and go someplace else. Sad. I thought better of Allstate.

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Cool. I suggest everyone take the time to check their policy. I still cant believe that they sold me a policy that only covers replacement of items INSIDE the trailer if it were hit by lightning or burned up. Wouldn't the trailer be a total loose if it burned up anyways?

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Ok. So an update to my travel trailer break in.
We took her to PPL here in Houston. I have heard many good reviews both on line and in person about this repair place and so far we have been very happy with them. It took them about 3 days to go through the trailer and add up all the damage. Luckily we didn't have a whole lot of repairs needed. A few windows had their knobs broken off from the burglar prying them open. Lost a screen and day/night shade where they climbed in and out. Broke a propane gas detector probably by kicking it as they walked through the dark trailer crawling around slide outs that were in. Broke the top of our TV power lift as they were removing our 32in flat panel and finally scratched a wall in the bedroom removing the 19in flat panel in there. Also, they took another 32in flat panel and portable radio/cd player we keep stored in there as well for use outside. (Tailgating)
Here's where it gets sketchy. We have Allstate insurance. This is our 3rd TT and we have our home, 2 cars and TT all with Allstate. I have had this policy since 1996. We are "Platinum" status with them now and have earned that status for not having any claims. Anyways, Allstate has been working with PPL and us reviewing the damage and items stolen from the brake in. With that in mind, Allstate has just informed us yesterday that our trailer is not covered for theft when it comes to the "Contents Coverage" that we have in our policy. We have $3000 "Contents Coverage" but that is only if the trailer gets hit by lightning or burns up. Seriously?! I have just paid the latest policy extension last week so I have it here with me and nowhere does it state this. Plus, when one purchases "Contents Coverage" wouldn't you expect it to cover loss from THEFT? After being informed about this "stipulation" from the adjuster on the phone, I called my actual agent and they told me that they never heard of that and would get back to me. So, today she calls and says, "I even had to ask around about that and unfortunately THEY are right, Contents Coverage only covers loss from lightning or fire". So even the Allstate agent had to "ask around" about it. So they are only covering the TV that came with the unit. I'm out the other TV's and radio. Its the whole principle of the thing. I can easily go out and replace these items but this is what I buy insurance for.
So with all that I am sharing this to pass it on... If you have your RV covered and have "Contents Coverage", I would HIGHLY suggest you call your agent and ask them if it includes loss from theft. Now that I know this I will have to remove the TV's every time I store it and will also be looking for another insurance company that is more transparent with there coverage to it's customers.

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

We kept out first TT stored outside uncovered for 6 years. The sun really got to it. This is our 3rd TT. We kept the 2nd one and this one covered and it makes a huge difference! I won't leave it uncovered again.
We decided to take it to PPL for the repairs. Thankfully no windows were shattered and they could have done a lot more damage but looks like they were manly after The televisions. It was sad though when we went there and seeing other people working on their damaged TT. Still looking for another storage place north of Houston to keep her once she repaired.

Just found out they also pulled up the TV in the living room and took that too. Ugh. Police took a report today but they only do that so you have a copy of the report for insurance purposes. So basically, no one will be looking for these as$ h0l3s. Sorry.

RE: Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

We have had very good results using
Terry's RV Service
21808 Pinebrook Dr New Caney, TX 77357
(936) 718-5187
Terry is the former service manager at the dealership where we bought our trailer. He has always treated us very well.
May I ask from what dealership did he formally work at?

I may just have to look into an enclosed unit. Ours is covered but not enclosed. How much do you pay for enclosed? I'store mine in Spring TX. I'm filing a police report today.

Camper broke into! Need repairs in Houston TX

Well, the storage lot just called. Just about all the RV's at the storage lot got broken into. We have a 2013 Dutchmen Denali 287re. They pried upen the windows in th back damaging them, pried off the screening and crawled inside. They went through every door and drawer they could open leaving them all open. We have 3 full slide outs so thankfully this blocked a lot of the trailer inside. They removed the flat panel in the bedroom and N extra one we use outside. They also took other items. It could be worse I guess. Just really pisses me off this type of scum roams the earth.
Anyways. Looks like we have 3 windows damaged, screening, blinds torn off, smoke alarms torn off, and woodwork that needs repairs. I'm out of town. Ow so I'm only going by the pictures I had sent to me. My question is, anyone out there know of a "reputable" place to take my camper in for repairs around the Houston area? I will be using my insurance. Thanks everyone.

RE: Houston Experience

To the RV.net folks and CW monitors-
If you are in TX and looking for a CW to go to, Houston is the one! We walked in and were welcomed by name (they were expecting us), were polite, informative and tried to work with us every step of the way. Eric, Terry and Tom are running a store CW can be proud of and the way RVing should be.
Thanks for making a tough situation this good and treating us with such respect.
-William and Ashley
Glad to hear that they are turning things around at this store. I still wouldn't let them come close to my property but its good to hear that maybe they are putting in an effort to change how they treat customers.

RE: CW buying experience

Just bought a new 13 Itasca Navion, the attention they give you when buying it is great, but after that, they won't even return phone calls for warranty repair. I'm still trying to get things repaired through warranty but so far, the response I got from the warranty department is that they're swamped with warranty claims and she'll get back to me, after emails and phone calls, I would appreciate being called back or emailed back. All I was asking for is the status of the warranty claim, which was started 10/06/12 and its 10/31/12 and still no update when they'll start the warranty work...this is so frustrating. I feel they're very attentive and responsive when you're buying, but after they get the money, you can go to hell for all they care.
Um, Yea. Get used to that...

RE: CW Service and Coleman (Dutchmen)...Where do I begin?

We love our Dutchmen 287re 2013. However, I would NEVER go back to Camping World for any type of service. Sad to say. I applaud Mr. Lemonis but I have no faith in his personnel after our ordeal with them.

RE: Keyless entry stopped working

I have a 2013 Dutchmen 287re. The model we looked at at the dealership was a 2012 in this floor plan. There was keyless entry on that model we saw when we placed our order. When our 2013 came in, we noticed that there was no keyless entry. I called Dutchman and asked about this and was told that they no longer use keyless entry when manufacturing the trailers because of so many of them not working shortly after delivery.

RE: Jumping Easy Chairs

My travel trailer along with others I have seen have tie downs for our swivel recliners that attach to the floor and wrap around the chairs when its time to pack up the trailer. They are simply long nylon straps that attach to the floor. Perhaps your trailer has the straps somewhere and they didn't show them to you when you picked it up. Do you see metal tabs attached to the floor near where the chairs are?
