RE: Bal Extended Chocks

I have the spread axles and the extended version of the Bal X-chocks. Use them on every trip and they work great. Wouldn't be without them.

RE: Dog friendly parks Cape Cod-Maine

Sweetwater, Brewster, MA has a kennel, KOA in Middleboro has a dog park as does Normandy Farms, Foxboro,MA. Bayleys in Maine has kayaking right from the campground and is dog friendly. KOA Oceanside in Bar Harbor has a dog park. Cherry Hill, MD has a dog sitter/walker service. The KOA in Mystic,CT. Sandy Pond, Plymouth has great walking trails for the dogs to exercise. This is just a short list of places I remember, but we have never had a problem staying at the 30 plus campground we have frequented. We have 2 small dachshunds, Hansel and Gretel, who usually are not interested in dog parks. They like to just sit on my lap! lol. X2 on Sweetwater Forest in Brewster. They have a kennel if you need it. The staff is very friendly and they are all dog lovers. I wish I could say the same for the rest of the Cape. Dogs are generally not welcome on the beaches.

RE: Axel and tire failure under 3000 miles

JJBIRISH, I usually agree with your posts but am curious as to why you don't think tongue weight should be subtracted from axle weight when looking at total weight? Two 3500 lb axles are over the GVWR of the TT. Granted, not by much but, say this TT is around 6500 loaded to go camping. That would result in around 800 lbs of tongue weight. This weight is not being carried by the axles? So, you've got maybe 6000 lbs on 7000 lbs of axle capacity. I totally agree that most manufacturers low ball equipment, especially tires and suspension but, I think these axles were defective and not overloaded. Heartland seemed to agree the problem wasn't overloading. Also agree the problem might have started showing up sooner than detected. I look at my tires every time I stop. X2. Canoe_On_Top, this is just about the only rational reply in 30 odd posts. What say we out this one to bed?

RE: Chevy hitch receivers 2011-2013

The factory 2 1/2" hitch on my 2011 is rated for 17,000lb trailer weight and 1800lb tongue weight. From the looks of it,I don't see why it can't be replaced. I don't see anything but bolts holding it on. That's odd. The hitch ratings on my 2011 2500hd are 13,000 trailer and 1,500 lbs tongue weight. I believe I saw in another thread that the 2500HD hitch is rated 1500# and the 3500HD hitch is rated 1800#. The hitch on my 2013 2500HD is rated 1500#.

RE: Axel and tire failure under 3000 miles

I'm glad to see the nice people on the Heartland Owners Forum and at Heartland Customer Service were able to direct you to the axle manufacturer for assistance. Sometimes even the best of us have a bad day. Wishing you many years of contented RV'ing after your axles are replaced.

RE: Campgrounds near Philadelphia

Maybe French Creek State Park. It's about 45 minutes from there to Philly's northern suburbs. French Creek is one of the few, if the only, PA state park open year round. Electric at many sites. Water is available, though along the roads and not at the sites.

RE: Any Heartland (North Trail, Wilderness) 26RLSS Owners?

Starting our 2nd season with our North Trail 26LRSS. Put over 4000 miles on it in the first year. Can't say enough good about it. Have never looked back on our choice. X2 on checking out the Heartland Owners forum. The NT 26LRSS is a popular model and you'll find a lot of active owners there to answer all of your questions.

RE: Hartford, CT to Scranton, PA and Harrisburg, PA

No construction projects in SE PA that will significantly affect you, as long as you're not passing through during rush hour. There's a fair amount of construction NW of Phila. that you might want to avoid if you can .... I-476 and US-202 in particular.

You're right where you ought to be. If you drive 55 and draft the big rigs, you might see 10 MPG. :B

RE: HD Truck Owners- why did you choose a TT?

I'm with everybody else's response, the trucks box is way to valuable to loss to a 5'er hitch and the height of a 5'er is not in the cards for the type of camping we do. Ernie X2. We pretty much camp only in state and national parks. Plus, DW said she didn't want to be Sen going down the road with a small house in tow. :B

RE: Towing question, going from pop up to a TT

You will be just fine. I had that exact truck, including the 3.42, until just a few weeks ago. I pulled a 6300# (dry) trailer all over the East. I moved up to a 3/4 ton only because the 850# tongue weight didn't leave me much payload. With 4600# dry weight, your TV will barely break a sweat. Even though you have the 3.42, low by traditional measures, the 6-spd transmission makes up for it.

RE: Tow Max STR ST 225 75R15 Tires

We have the exact same trailer and tires as you, except ours is a 2012. In the first year we put 5,000 miles on the trailer. I checked the tires at every stop, and they ran barely warm. Our longest trip was 500+ miles one way during July. The 26LRSS has plenty of capacity in the axles and the tires. Our loaded axle weight is 6600 lbs., or just 1650 lbs. per tire. IIRC the tires are rated at around 2500 lbs. General consensus is that catastrophic tire failures, TowMax or otherwise, occur when tires are near their load limit and then further stressed by high temperatures or under inflation. Keep your TowMax's at 60 lbs or higher, and rest easy.

RE: Towing TT without weight bars or sway control

I just took delivery on my 2013 2500HD last week. GM has a lot more information in the owner's manual on towing, compared to my old 1500. Regarding a WDH, the manual surprised me: a WDH is OPTIONAL on the 2500HD and 3500HD. Now if you consider how legalistic we have become, and how many lawyers watch everything that GM puts in writing, that's a pretty convincing argument that a WDH is not necessary for maintaining axle weights and steering control. Sway control is another matter. GM has added a trailer sway control feature to the Stabilitrak system. I'll try a few trips with Stabikitrak turned on and see what it feels like. If I don't like what I'm feeling, I'll turn it off and go with tried and true friction bars.

RE: Anyone use Camco 48058 Elite weight distrib hitch?

Looks to be the same critter as my EazLift Elite. It's worked fine for me, but then I've never used anything else. Beyond that, for you to get an opinion from others some addional data on your TV and TT would be needed.

RE: Maximum Trailer Weight

I found the sticker in the glovebox they told me to look for and it has the Axle listed as GU6. If what I found is correct it says it's a 3.42 ratio axle. I'm going to verify this with the dealer tomorrow and find our more about the overall towing ability of the truck. This is the info I also pulled from Chevy's site on the truck. Curb Weight (lbs.) 5206 Max Payload (lbs.) 1794 GVWR (lbs.) 7000 Max Conventional Trailering, 3.08 Rear Axle (lbs.) 6800 Max Conventional Trailering, 3.42 Rear Axle (lbs.) 9600 Make sure you looked at the right cab/bed configuration. That 5206# looks a bit light for a 4x4. I used to pull my 7200# TT (loaded) with the 2WD version of your TV. After putting on LT tires, packing lightly to stay within the payload, and trying things for a year, I moved to a 2500HD. Can you tow with that combo? Yes, but you're at the very limit for that TV. If you do, here's what you should know: - You will need to upgrade to LT tires. - Your tongue weight will be closing in on 1000#. Keep that in mind when you figure your total payload. - You should probably figure on 2 anti-sway bars. - If you tow in the mountains, figure on power flushing your transmission every year.

RE: Front end rise

In my admittedly limited experience, I've found that it may take a number of little things to get you where you want to be. Some thoughts on what those little things might be in your case: - A tongue weight of 10.8% isn't that far from where you want to be. Most TT's are on the road at 12% - 13%. Your idea of moving the spare forward will probably put you over 12%. - Or maybe add on that 2nd battery you really want for when you're boondocking. - 1000# bars are too much for your situation. Consider swapping them out for 800# bars. - By the steer axle numbers, you are only returning 25% of the weight lost, and Ford recommends 50%. I've found that you need to bounce the front end a bit before you make each height measurement, to get it settled in. - Judging by the number of links hanging and the little bit of weight transfer going on, I would say your ball is not tilted back far enough. I'm not familiar with the Blue Ox WDH, so I'm assuming it has ball tilt adjustment like the other WDH's I have seen.

RE: advice about tongue weight of Cougar X-Lite 22RBV

Immediately you have to think about full propane tanks and. batteries. Usually stored up front and its 100+ pounds of weight And on top of that all of your storage space is way up front, almost on top of the hitch. Your on-the road tongue weight will be 1000# plus. We strongly encourage you to find another TT that is better suited to your TV .... or upgrade your TV.

RE: 09 Tundra without tow package

I have an 09 Tundra TRD W/O tow package. Truck is rated for 8600lb towing capacity. I want to pull a 2013 camper dry weight at 5400- Max at 7000. I have a wdh. will i be able to pull this or will it max out? 8600# without a tow package sounds awfully optimistic. You definitely want to listen to all of the other posters and add that cooler. Your TT wet and loaded will be around 7000#, same as mine. Even with a cooler my Chevy 1500 hit transmission temps of 215 F pulling the mountains in PA.

RE: 2013 Heartland North Trail 26LRSS

Just went back and reviewed your post. Would you believe my DW is also Barbara Ann? I think there's a sign here. And to clear up my remarks regarding towing, our first year was with a Chevy 1500 to which we added the LT tires and cranked up the WDH. For a variety of reasons I just moved to a 2500HD. A C1500/F150 is adequate for the 26LRSS (or any other TT in that length/weight class), so long as you add LT tires, pay attention to your TV's cargo weight, and do a good job of adjusting the WDH.

RE: 2013 Heartland North Trail 26LRSS

We have a 2012 North Trail 26LRSS. We first say it at an RV show, where the floor plan caught my wife's eye and the design/construction quality caught my eye. In our first year we've done maybe 30 nights and 4000 miles. We are as happy with the 26LRSS today as the day when we picked it up. I can't say I have the towing issues that goducks had. Initially there was some minor porpoising and squirminess. It took LT tires and an electric tongue jack (to help with tightening up the WDH) to fix that. But after the fixes, it has towed quite well. You might stop by the Heartland owners forum, www.heartlandowners.org (I think). Obviously you'll get positive remarks there, but you'll also find a number of active members who can tell you how the floor plan and brand works for them.
