Directv/ Genie-switching to new system-impact on RVing.

So I am converting my front TV in the motorhome to an HD set. Have an HD set outside and usually set up a Slimline to watch that and/or to inside SD sat box when the rooftop doesn't get a signal which is often. I have a HD DVR for the outside TV and was thinking of adding an HD sat box inside for the new HD tv. So I call Directv to get a simple HD sat box for the new front tv(free with a two year recommit) and they offer me all new Genie system with 2-3 new Genie compatible boxes for the house, which I don't really need. We only watch tv in the living room, leaving the other two activated boxes in the RV as we use it 1-2 x a month, more during football season. Kind of a pain to keep moving boxes in and out. God forbid you forget to take them. Which has happened. The Genie is tempting as its one cable going in instead of three wires now, plus with two Genie slave boxes, no cables to the outside AND rear tv, which I usually ignore. Plus 1TB HDD, record five shows at once, etc/. But it means carrying the Genie HD DVR, power inserter, extra boxes in and out when we leave. Which is often. Ain't paying $5/mo for five boxes. Plus I have to buy a new SWM dish for the RV. Or I could just keep the existing set up and get a new, non Genie, non SWM, HD sat box. Free with a two year. Plus I have the extra service plan. Decisions, decisions. What am I missing?? What would you do?

RE: Honda 2000i generators triple parallel kit

50A RV supplies 2 legs of 110/50A of power. My 7500w QD will supply 60+ amps and I have never gotten It over 50+ with EVERYTHING both ACs, elec HWT, micro, on. Didn't turn on block heater.

RE: Air Conditioner

I wonder why they don't put 15K in all of them.

RE: Inside Decorating of Camper

Nothing that can't be taken down in two minutes. We have some UF Gator stuff here and there. We have a Gator lamp we put on the steering wheel table. Stuff for outside eg flags, lights, etc. I have seen people that screw stuff into their walls, replace upholstery with weird fabric. paint their name on the outside back of the RV.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

I run two ACs routinely on 30A. THe Intellitec EMS manages the timing of the compressors going on, etc. Can't run much else tho.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

UPDATE; RESOLVED!! Had time to look at the problem today in the light of day. I have to use an extension cord from my house to the RV cord. A wire had come loose inside the Camco replacement plug I had put on a year or so ago. I thought I had measured 120 on both legs the other n9ght when I posted but in the light of day, I pulled the cover off the transfer switch which is under the bed, and ony had one leg. Outside, I had measured both legs at the breaker box and unplugged the cord for the extension cord a little so I could read voltage on the blades of the cord, which was there. But it wasn't making it inside. Redid the plug and everything is good again. Thanks for the help and the manual. Now to find a better replacement plug. The Camco doesn't have enough metal to suit me.

RE: Add songs to iPod without using iTunes?

Media Monkey is a powerful iPhone/iPod App. It has a much stronger database and converts various formats on the fly, burns CDs, etc. has a free version with upgrades available for converting.

RE: Add songs to iPod without using iTunes?

You can do anything on iTunes with any songs. Songs from the Apple Store don't have any advantage over songs from you CD.

RE: Add songs to iPod without using iTunes?

Anything he can put on his computer can be added to the device thru iTunes. You don't have buy music from Apple. Load his CD s, free music sites, whatever.

RE: Towing Honda Element 2011 EX

I have about 80k miles left on the warranty. I have had five Hondas for about half a million miles or more, tens and tens of thousands of miles towing them and never had one mechanical issue in or out of warranty. That is why I drive Hondas. I figure if I DO have a problem, I will take the baseplate off which I can do on the side of the road in about 40 minutes.

RE: Towing Honda Element 2011 EX

I tow an 11 EX Element. No brakes yet. Probably wont unless I go 0ut west. I have a Ready BRute setup and I installed it on our 04 Element. Easy install. I installed a Demco baseplate myself. Easy install, no drilling.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

You probably already know this, but on my ems there is a selector switch that you can change. Maybe yours is selected for 30 amps. The option is to switch between 20 or 30A. Mine isn't detecting 50A when I have verified that it connected to 50A.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

page 14 The ems has to see both legs of the 120 volts. VIX shows what you should measure. That's the page I was hoping to find. I'll measure it tomorrow. I know all the jumpers are ok as it was working fine a few weeks ago. I'm guessing a marginal connection gone bad or a lighting related surge; we have been getting slammed the last few weeks. I'll report back.

RE: Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

Thanks. Should get me started. I was a bench tech bread boarding switching power supplies in a former life so am very comfortable with AC/DC, high voltages, etc. Hoping its something simple.

Intellitec only showing 30A service connected to 50A. ???

So went out to work on the RV next to the shop. Connected to 50A service. EMS is showing 30A service. I measured at the main RV breaker inside the RV and have both legs. Reset all breakers on everything and still only 30A. Start the genset and everything works; both AC's, washer. etc. Any trouble shooting guides out there?

RE: Onan quiet diesel 7500 generator

QD's have a cold start function with igniters that need to warm up if its below about 55-60. Try holding the button down. Sometimes it takes minutes.

RE: Products like Penetrol or Black Wow.....

I used to use Penetrol on my Jeep fender flares that turned white. IT is a paint leveler product, not really a restoration product. It would turn them black for six months or so.

RE: Honda

I still am looking for a 2,000 watt generator that can start a 13.5K roof air at high head pressure. And looking No not the Honda And looking Yamaha either And looking I haven't done it but I read it here from a guy that is doing it and the specs add up. The Coleman Mach 3 P.S. (13.5K BTU lists a max draw of 11.2, which a single Honda 2000 will supply. You won't have much to spare but people are doing it.
