RE: Chaco Canyon well worth the drive!

I have been there twice solo and stayed in a tent and it doesn't matter what you stay in,yes,it is an amazing experience. Plan on several days to do all the hiking you can to the various sites. There are some stiff uphills on a couple of trails to get to the top of the mesas, but they are basically short and the rest of the hike is basically level.
The first time I was there it dropped down to 20 degrees at night and it took me 30 minutes to get out of the bag and down to the restroom which I found to be packed as it had electric heat. The guy camped across from me had two large german shepards that were doing a bit of barking and growling at something after dark and in the morning the owner found them curled up under his pickup and they didn't want to come out. Don't know what they were growling at,but I guess they decided that discretion was better than valor.

RE: China Bombs Got Me

nd he gave me a full refund for all four and I had him install Toyo AT's and never had another problem.
One item that a lot of you never take into consideration is how often has that tire been curbed when going around a corner. That is an item that can really ruin a tire in a big hurry and not just the sidewall, but the tread and the wheel
I drive a school bus and used to have a supervisor who could see a curb mark a mile away when we came back into the yard after a run. He'd make you go out with the driver trainer after seeing several of them. Very embarrasing.

RE: Long Class A rigs with Trailers - Where do they stay?

I drive a 39' Discovery and tow a car with a trailer for the atv. I use Trailerlife Navigation program and they usually tell you the length of the spaces. I travel mostly out west and have found a lot of parks that can accommodate my 70 ft "train". If not I just unhook the car,if only staying overnight, or if staying longer unhook the trailer too. No problem! Yes In most states out west my length is legal or close to legal and like another poster said if you are not doing anything stupid they will not stop you to check your length.
he
Just what states are you towing in that this hook-up is legal? I mean this is a triple tow, right? Just off hand,I don't think that it's legal here in Wa.

RE: Slideouts and jacks not working

I don't know about your chasis, but mine has a HUGE circuit breaker behind the main fuse panel, backside, that controls the power to both the slides and jacks.

RE: NW Spring Rally - May 17-19, 2013 - Dayton, OR

We are ready.... Just have another couple of trips up to the MH with food amd more of the DW's clothes and then over to Bob's to get the coffee pot and on down to the southern end of the county for a county parks meeting.. Kinda hard to miss that as I'm the chrp and we're making a decsion on getting some of our 72 parks off of our rolls.
We'll be leaving as early as I can get moving in the AM.
We were thinking, nothing ever good comes of me thinking, that those of us that are there on Thursday could mebbee go to the Tapas bar in Mac for an early meal and then back to the desert social.

RE: Toyo vs Hankook Tires

Hankook are OEM on both Navistar and Freightliner trucks. That should tell you what you need to know.
Moisheh
Nah,just look at Ford and the Firestone debacle. The Manufacturers use the cheapest tires they can get. That may not be true about the truck chasis manf, but could be.

RE: Where to Stay in Vegas?

We always stay at the Oasis as it's closest to the strip. Leave the entrance and head east for a couple of blocks and you're on the south end of the strip below the airport.

RE: Washington State coastline?

I'm thinking about throwing the tent in the back of the toad and doing a solo trip around the Olympic Peninsula this summer, possibly in August. There are a number of campgrounds that really lend themselves to that. It is amazing that some of these cgs have had room made for a camp host in a 35'-40' rig and not other sites.
Man.that's sounding better every minute. The DW decided about 20 years ago that tenting wasn't for her.We went from a tent to an 8' Starcraft p/u,14 Coachman p/u,Wilderness 27X TT,Cougar 304 BHS TT and now the Tradewinds LTC. Started with a Jeep Cherokee and woundup with an '01 PSD Excursion and of all of them I really miss the Excursion.

RE: Washington State coastline?

It kinda depends on the size of your rig. There are a number of parks in the Long Beach area and then none really till you get up past Raymond, then there are a couple at Tokeland. One of those is pretty nice and the other is kinda nice, but basically a fishing camp. From there is Grayland SP,then Twin Harbors SP which is for smaller rigs. Lot's of tent camping and a few 30' and less h/u sites. There is one or two in Westport. Hoquiam River is very nice and then you're heading out to Ocean Shores with Ocean City SP which is hard to get into. Up from there are several member campgrounds, which will usually let you stay there and severale of those are Passport America. There is a small grundgy one on Lake Quinalt and then Klaloch NP,no h/us. The one at Forks and one at Lapush are private and Mora is a NP cg with mostly small sites. Thewre is a private CG at Neah Bay and then you're in hog heaven from there into the Puget Sound area. If you're retired military, there is,I believe, a campground at Pacific Beach and on the ocean at Neah Bay.
OOPPSS,I forgot Pacific beach SP,almost impossible to get res there and Bogachiel River SP.
We've stayed at almost all of those over the years, with the exception of Klaloch and Bogachiel.

RE: Toyo vs Hankook Tires

I have toyo's on the rear of my MH and they are feeling good. I replaced the Michelins with them as the difference was over $1,000 at my Les Schwab.I call them that because I owe them so much money. The FMCA price was close on the michelins, but they charged from $350 to $450 labor for mounting and balancing the four tires and I would have had to drive a minimum of 90 miles r/t and that would have added another $50 in fuel.. We have Hankooks,Osta and Goodyear 626 on our Thomas school buses.
I think it's a case of rolling the dice with the better tires. I have had toyo's on all of my vehicles for a really long time and never had a problem.

RE: Cape cod

I was stationed at Otis AFB in '65 as an inflight refueling operator on KC-97's in SAC and lived in East Falmouth on Pacheco Path. We traveled all over the cape and the islands and it was a weonderful time. Any time you can get to the cape, the cost is worth it.There was some great summer stock there and we had fun at some of the auction houses. Going out to the end of the cape was well worth the time.

RE: NW Spring Rally - May 17-19, 2013 - Dayton, OR

I think the two hottest rallies were here. I remember the first one cooking turkeys on the bbqs and camping next to Dicka. Not the Spokane one and now wishing that I had known more about him and his Vietnam exploits. Also the flyfisher that backed into the power box.
Then the second one where my knee swelled up when we were doing all the appetizers and the coolest place place, besides the winerys, was the aviation museum.
This is a great place, but then it was 100 in Clarkston the first day and then the second day the temp dropped 40 degrees in 1/2 hour and the wind hit and the the rain tried to wash us all into the river and then the temp went back up to the 80's.
We're already to go, the motorhome is happy again after it's trip to the Cat shop in Five.

RE: NW Spring Rally - May 17-19, 2013 - Dayton, OR

No,I haven't as I've been kinda busy working. I've managed to get several 8 hour + days substituting on the bus. That can be kinda tiring as that means I've worked from 6AM till usually around 5PM. It takes an 11 hour time frame to get anywhere from 6-8 hours actual working time.

RE: RV Parks around Vancouver, WA

Both of the parks that are owned by the same folks are kind of tight to get around in. One is the Van Mall and the other is Vancouver 99 rv park. I have stayed at both and the Van Mall folks had already closed their office prior to the 5 PM closing and and had no directions on what to do for finding a site,so I just found one and pulled into it. The security guy came around and told me that I couldn't stay in that site as it was reserved for the next day and I'd have to take another.I was all set up,so I pulled out and found one that I could hardly get into and was hanging out on both ends. I just rolled into the trailer and headed for bed. The next AM I found they wanted $60 for the site as the security guy had written down that I had been in the larger site. I said no-way and they could come check where I was and I wouund up paying for the cheaper site.
