RE: Verizon MiFi upgrade deal

Major shortcoming of the MiFi is the lack of external antenna port. Also has a few other shortcomings that you do not have with a router. Many would be better off with a Cradlepoint router and a USB cellular broadband device combo. Sure the MiFi is aok but... Yes no antenna but what do you think other short comings are? Do you own one? I have worked with more then one MiFi but I personally would not buy/own one. The MiFi is aok but falls short in regard to my needs/desires. Not having an external antenna port is the major issue I am concerned with. Also, the limited WiFi range and max of 5 WiFi Clients at one time are negatives. The MiFi also does not have some advanced web administration features/abilities that say a Cradlepoint router has. Also, The embedded 3G module, locked to one carrier is a concern. Lastly, a USB broadband device like say a USB760 is just physically smaller and more practical when you do not need connection capability for more then one computer. When connectivity for more then one device is needed then an inexpensive router attached to the likes of a USB760 is a terrific way to go. In closing, no I am not anti-MiFi but just know it is not the best way to go for myself and many others. The best way for us is cellular broadband device and router combo with an external antenna when needed.

RE: older V10 specs

Indeed there is a difference depending on the year of the V10 chassis. New ones have 362hp, older ones had 275 and 310hp. The 362 horsepower Triton V10 has 457 lb.-ft of torque. There was an issue with the earlier V10. Read the following I posted in another thread awhile back... The affected/problematic Ford engines have heads with 4 thread plug holes with 4 thread spark plugs in not so hard heads. The threads just can't keep the spark plugs from inadvertently blowing out occasionally.. Many Ford engines are affected by the way not just the V10. Ford after realizing the error in their ways went to 8 threads with 8 thread spark plugs on the modular engines that were affected. Head material was also altered/ made stronger. The older V10 with the 275hp (with 4 thread spark plug holes, using 4 thread plugs) have had plug(s) blow out unexpectedly. Plug # 5 is the one that blows most often. There is a fix which usually holds but is no guarantee that the same plug will not blow again or that another will blow. Only real fix is to change the heads. The 310hp version (PI) V10 has 8 threaded plug holes in the heads. Heads are labeled "PI". (Performance Improved) few if any issues with plugs blowing on these. From my understanding, in the FORD 2000 chassis model year the V10 went from 275hp to 310hp. REMEMBER.... Motorhomes built early in 2000 probably (possibly) were built on a 1999 Ford Chassis. SO, you could have a 2000 motorhome on a Ford 1999 chassis with a 275hp V10. Or you possibly could have the 310hp IF your motorhome was built later in the year on a 2000 Ford chassis.. Hope this info is not confusing. Again, If you are unsure what V10 you have 275hp vs 310hp or the newer 362hp V10 you can call Ford and give the Vin# of your Ford and Ford will tell you exactly. Before a purchase, call Ford Chassis --phone # is 1-800-444-3311. Give them the Vin# and they will provide specifics on your chassis/engine. To reiterate .... You will be pleased with the 310hp and up V10. Do not expect terrific gas mileage though. The V10 is quite easy to perform routine maintenance on to include oil changes, fuel filter change, greasing, etc.

RE: IPod Touch finally working

the ipod touch is pretty much the same as setting up any email client.. I had no problems you just have to follow the directions of the email provider. Agreed, very easy if you know the basics in regard to setting up email client, etc.

RE: How To Prevent WiFi Theft

If your router has the option, go with other alternatives like WPA2-PSK AES or WPA/WPA2. WEP is poor but better then nothing. If you do not wish to allow others to access your hotspot at the very least use WEP.

RE: Computer monitor won't start up?

99.9% of the time it’s the power supply not the mother board. One way to check to see if you have power is if the computer is lighting up (power light) and check the light on the mother board. Most boards have a led light on them to show they are getting power. Only way I know to test a mother board is to hook up a different power supply to it. You get the cuppie doll! Excellent shot. 8-)

RE: Computer monitor won't start up?

A) Is it a PC style or B) a Lap top. Makes a lot of difference in comments. A lap top, take it to a shop. A PC style find another monitor, go to Goodwill and you can take it back if it does't work. Try it, won't hurt. Chuck :h huh .......... Guys got a bad power supply. End user can change the power supply on a laptop or desktop if he is up to it. IF not with either, take the computer to a shop and have them repair. Original poster, make sure you have power going to the computer itself. If you do and still a no go you will need a new power supply installed on the computer. This is not an expensive repair.

RE: XP to Win7

Lee... I do not mean to sound negative/demeaning, BUT if you have to ask this type of question I would recommend you do not try to do the move from XP to Win 7 yourself. Let someone else ascertain if your pc / hardware will play well with Windows 7 and then have them do the install of Windows 7 for you or assisting you..

Left Handed Mouse Cursors for Win 7, VISTA

I set-up nine Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit laptops for a local contractor today. Four of the laptops were going to left handed users. I set-up the 4 laptops for the lefties with the lefty aero cursors found here. I myself am a lefty and use them. Anyway, figured some lefty here might appreciate the source of these top notch aero lefty cursors. The lefty contractors appreciated them.

RE: computer air card question?? (UPDATE)

thanks for all the responses but not that up on this stuff. this is what is listed as being in the new computer. maybe this will clear up just what i have. network adaptor gigabit ethernet LAN (rj-45 port) wireless network adaptor 802.11 a/b/g/draft-N wi-wi certified hope this helps thanks does the above info mean that i have a wireless air card built in? The above indicates that YES, you have a Wifi adapter so you can use WiFi. It also indicates a connection for a hard wired Ethernet connection so you could connect via cable, etc. No mention of a built-in wireless broadband device/aircard that you would use with Verizon, ATT or Sprint cellular service..

RE: Email sending

Common problem for those on the road. Lots of service providers only allow email to be sent when you are connected through their network. To get around this you need to get a google email account, gmail, and use gmail as your outgiong SMTP mail server. How to use Gmail as your SMTP server When set up properly you can use your email program to receive and send email without using a web client. This is basic instruction. A little more searching may be needed. This information is correct! Encourage the original poster to follow this poster,s recommendation. Use Gmail's SMTP server for your outgoing mail server and your issue will be fixed. IF you use GMAIL's server be sure when at GMAIL to enable POP! You will only need to go to your mail program's outgoing mail setting and make a change in regard to SMTP server. Your incoming mail setting will remained unchanged.

RE: AVG 9.0

Well, I think the problem is fixed--found the answer in another thread (Browser slow to load). Disabled Active Surf-Shield in AVG 9, pages loading very quickly now. I'd like to see this thread you are referring to. AVG9 no longer has issues like you have mentioned in your post.

RE: AVG 9.0

I e-mailed AVG and never really got a response to resolve my issues. So I got fed up and switched to Norton. The Norton is very user friendly. I would not use Norton if you paid me to use it. I encourage others to think twice before installing Norton.
