RE: Vehicles you could of bought, wished you did, but didn't

One I DID buy in 1961....a '55 Ford Thunderbird, red with the white soft top (didn't have the removeable hard top). Wish I had it today. Traded it in on a new '63 Fairlane in '63 when I got married; thought we needed a family car! I guess we did. The next year we had triplet daughters.
Did you buy a '64 Ford Econoline window van the next year to cope with the transportation needs of your three daughters ?:B
Nope. Just glued 2 legs on a piece of plywood and put it on the back seat with the legs on the floor and the rest of the plywood laying on the seat. Then put the girls there to play...no seat belts or car seats etc. They survived without all that safety stuff which we didn't have back then. The Failane was a 2 door coupe, 260V8 with "3 on the tree".

RE: One Night Stops and meal planning

We have used the crockpot method with the crockpot sitting in the sink while traveling so it wouldn't spill or fall over. Of course we had to run the generator while on the road. When we pulled in at Walmart late in the evening we just dished out the food. It was a rather quick meal.

RE: Ideas for accessing Splendide for repairs

Same here. The two big guys that removed it had a heck of a time. They raised the bed and built a little platform to put in front of the washer to sit it on and then got a new grip on it and they lifted it up and out. They took it out of the m/home to do the repair. They also cut a large opening in the side wall of the wardrobe closet to more easily disconnect the water lines, dryer vent hose and drain line. Then they closed up the hole with matching panelling. I kept the platform they made in case of any future need.

RE: Toad or no toad

I vote for taking the toad for all the reasons given on these 3 pages of responses AND...we had a major m/home breakdown in the middle of nowhere in Utah and we were SO glad we had the toad to get back and forth to a town that was 10 miles away for cell phone service, to arrange for repairs, shopping, etc. Renting a car may have been a major hassle especially without cell phone service.

RE: TIRE BALANCING HELP NEEDED

Our 22.5" G670 tires were not round and couldn't be balanced. I had them removed and put on Hankook A12 tires. Made a world of difference. Smooth as silk.

RE: Furnace on when traveling?

Never had a problem when driving with the heat on. The "wind" never put the flame out.

RE: Furnace on when traveling?

We have traveled with the furnace on. We camp without hookups from time to time and use the furnace all night (it cycles on the thermostat) without running the generator. We have 2 6volt batteries. If your setup is similar you may not have to run the generator.

RE: Water Tank

I think you should have some water on board. 3 years ago at the KOA in San Antonio, TX they shut off the water without warning during a construction project and they didn't turn it on till the next day. We were prepared with a full water tank. Another time a lightning bolt took out a campground well water pump and we were prepared. At over 25000lbs loaded to travel and towing a car I don't think I could detect any gas mileage difference between a full water tank and an empty one.

RE: Things to DO in Phoenix area?

Another vote for Organ Stop Pizza in Mesa area. We were there several years ago and plan to get pizza there again on our next trip. The Wurlitzer organ "concert" is very entertaining.

RE: Hooked up to 50 amps but indicator reads 30

If you have a breaker for a washer/dryer circuit and if it's "off" you'll get your situation. It happened to me once.

RE: Radiator sprayer

One thing to remember when doing this. Water usually has minerals in it and over a period of time as the water evaporates the minerals will be deposited on the radiator fins and that will hamper the cooling ability of the radiator and then you'll need to spray it more, etc.,etc.,etc.

This same thing happened to a camper next to us. Their converter plugs into a 120v. outlet; the plug fell out of the recepticle. Plugged it in; problem solved.

In our stick house we get that noise when walking over an area that has a heating duct underneath. Do you have ducted heating in that area?

RE: Fresh Water Pump

As I read your post the pump would cycle forever if you didn't shut it off. Our Shur flo solid state contolled pump started doing that last year and I couldn't get it to operate correctly. So I replaced it with the Shurflo revolution 4048 series pump; problem solved. I did this only after making sure I had no air in the system and no leaks.

RE: Apachie Campground in Myrtle Beach

When we were at OL many folks had motorcycles; either parked them in the lot or towed them to camp site with their tow vehicle.
