RE: I live in So Cal & looking for free camping spots?

Might anyone recommend some good places that are worth visiting that are free with no hook ups? We always take our dog so we want dog friendly area's with nice hikes & views & most of all fishing! :D If you have an iPhone or iPad, there's a 99 cent app called Boondocking that lists a lot of free boondocking campsites, many in California: Boondocking Wow! Thanks! I'll check it out right now!

RE: I live in So Cal & looking for free camping spots?

Have you been up to top of Alamo Mtn in Padres Ntl forest? No, tell me more? Go up the grape vine on 5. Get off at Hungary Valley road. Go westward. Road, some time ago was just a 2 track road opening up to dirt road. Go all the way west to Piru creek. You can camp at the bottom on the creek. I would cross over the creek & go to the top which is 7000 ft. At the creek it says 4WD only. However road is good to the top. I have had my Ford Pinto up there. My small shell on 2WD PU, also my 10 1/2 foot cab over camper up there. Check the maps first. Also call ranger station to make sure the Hungary Valley gate is open. Funny that you mention there, I thought about going up there but ended up turning 1/2 way & staying at Kings CampGround. I have been up there though & wonder if my camper would of made it. http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/978700/fullsize/img_5722.jpg

RE: I live in So Cal & looking for free camping spots?

Have your dog become a service dog and then he can go anywhere in the CA State Parks. My brother works at Burlington State Park in the Humboldt Redwoods and keeps telling me to have my Golden become a service dog so I can take him on the trails. Got any links to this? WHats involved? is it expensive?

RE: Just a Picture of a Go anywhere Class A

defiently photoshop left side american drive but with all the decals backwards, and the chassis is still GREEN anybody building that mod would have taken time to paint the chassis black still fun to look at I don't agree about the painting it black part, they may of wanted it to have that look instead of looking like proper finish, I'm not one of these people but they are out there & yeah its fun to think about such a rig.

Why is the shadow from the mirror going straight down as if it's noon, but the shadow on the ground is going straight forward as if it's later in the day? As I said in the original post, It may be a PhotoShop?

What you think? I'd like one assuming its under 13.6 high, but the fuel milage is probably horrible. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/533780_534650119910419_1536740149_n.jpg Might be a Photoshop, but I like the idea. ;)

RE: So what have you found to be the best all around dinghy?

Well...... The wife prefers an automatic & the subaru would have to be a manual trans for flat towing & to be honest living in Los Angeles & with all the traffic we have I'd agree with the preference of an auto trans. That being said the truck that carries my camper is a Stick, yet it hardly driven, in no way a daily driver.

RE: My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

Thanks, mine looks very easy to remove with nothing in the way & I'm figuring a floor jack will work well to remove it. & then being I'm not very mechanical I'm letting my mechanic figure it out. Not sure how expert he is on Geni's, but I do know he's worked on them before.

RE: So what have you found to be the best all around dinghy?

Yes the outbacks can be towed with a stick, yet, they will have lots more moving parts during the process.

RE: My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

The larger but relatively similar 4000 Microquiets sometimes have issues with the starter gear jamming, but I'm not sure it happens on the 2.5/2.8. Never happened to any of my three 2.8's in ten+ years, anyway. I'm not sure if they make any noise when it happens. I wonder if your mystery noise is the solenoid? When they're not getting enough current, they'll 'chatter'. This can be battery issues or a bad connection in either positive or ground. I'm assuming you've got the access door off when you hear it? I'll post a pic of the 2.8 with the cover off _if_ you confirm that that's what you've got. If it's a 2.5 or 2.8 Microlite, the solenoid, starter, and cable terminals are only accessible with the green box top removed. Jim, "Drink, drank, drunk." Oh Crap! Yes its a 2.8 KV-B & yes I'm thinking your right about the gear, yes sitting at the geni & trying to start it from there & I get a loud crack when I 1st hit the switch then I get get the other sound I tried to describe & my thoughts are a stuck starter. Darn it! Sounds expensive! Luckily there is an authorized service shop right down the street from me. I suppose I'm gonna have to take it to them. :( Edit:Just call my local shop & they don't wanna touch it because it's an '85 & they say it always snowballs when they are that old, so instead I called a very good mobile mechanic friend of mine that use to work on many of the geni's & such at this company I worked for for about 8 years & he will come out next week to pull the Geni out & go through it. Oh well...... as usual nothing is ever easy for me! :S

RE: My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

Starter spray will not help at all being ITS NOT CRANKING! I wonder how I can get to the cables at the geni's starter to see if they are loose? & it started fine about a month ago... dont see what changed in that time? Its not as if i was having problem that just got worse. Worked great about a month or so ago & now wont crank, just makes a strange sound as if the power is reaching it but something is not allowing it to crank?

RE: My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

What kind of temps you seeing? If really cold, unlikely given your location, the propane may be having a hard time vaporizing. Try a fresh fill of propane anyway. Check for fuel flow. Does the cook top light? How does the air filter look? Check the spark plug and wire. Gap is 0.20". Make sure the spark arrestor isn't clogged or a critter has placed a nest in the ehaust. Here's the owner's manual just in case you don't have one. Thanks for the link. But mine runs on regular gasoline, not propane? It was probably about 60* outside when I tried to start it. & no its nothing to do with air filter or plug gap, being its not cranking at all! Just making this strange low sound that why I thought was low battery. Air filter clean & plug maybe has 30 minutes on it if that?

RE: My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

Fuel, fuses? You have a start switch on the genny as well as in the camper? Try them both. Check battery voltage. Good luck and let us know how it works our. I checked the fuses at the Geni & tried starting at at the Geni as well & nothing changes & also swapped out the fuse at the battery just in case Still..? Being the last battery read well & then took it to a battery shop where they tested it & it showed fine & then i still got a new battery anyways being it was 6 years old & still have this issue, I doubt its the battery?

My 2.5 Onan won't start?!?!?!

I thought it was a weak battery so I just went out & got a brand new deep cell for it & I have the same issue, so I thought well maybe its not fully charged from the factory so I tried to jump it & still nothing?!?!? All it dose it makes a low sound that is hard to explain in text, maybe later on tonight I cant figure out a way to record the sound as it quiets down outside? Its sorta like a garbling grumble? What I would say is sorta what a car does when all the starter will do is click due to a low battery? My son is rushing to get his ( New to him Project Canper ) ready for next weekend out in the desert, so I figured we would join him on his maiden voyage & so being there will be no hook-ups I figured I better get a new battery being the 6 year old one won't start the geni & now it seems maybe the 6 year old battery might of still been good? DOH! :S What should I start looking at 1st? I use to run great before & now....? I checked the oil being I've heard they have a safety switch if the oil is low & its fine.. Thanks you so much for your help, I'm hoping I can learn how to solve this myself without taking it into the shop?
