RE: Free to good local home----

Free to good local home----

Update: Cover has been given away - 10/14/09 Mods--Hope this is ok since I'm not selling anything. I just got a new Aqua Shed cover for my TC, and I'm giving my old one away to anyone local. Still in decent shape, a couple small tears in the corners from me pulling on it a little too aggressively, but otherwise in good shape. Figured I'd offer it up here first to you guys rather than on Craigslist. Fits BIG TC's--Mine's a AF 11 footer. I've been gone from here for several months due to critical family emergency, look forward to chatting you y'all again!

Well that sucks....

Apparently, at some point, my last outing with my TC I must have taken a corner too fast. I recently took the TC for a four-stop three day run, and discovered this on day 2. I suppose if I was smart, I'd snap a pic of it to show. but since I'm at work with a little time on my hands, I can't take a pic yet. I'll try to describe it as best as possible--- Right where the driver's front corner is, where the lift jack is attached. The tie down is about 8 inches back from the jack under the overhang. The bottom of the overhang floor corner separated from the side and front by about an inch. It appears to have only affected the integrity of the tie down, as I was able to get the camper off the truck without any noticeable additional separation from the jack lifting on that corner. My thought is to use a floor jack to push it back into place, then a large quantity of wood/lag screws into it. Any thoughts?

RE: You're LEGALLY over weight, you get in an accident-then what?

I have to clarify my question---- I'm looking for ACTUAL stories from people who have "been there, done that", or has directly heard of someone who has. Not what-if's, or "every state is different", or this-could-happen type stuff. Actual, Factual (hey, that rhymes!) accounts and details of someone who was overweight, got in wreck, and got in hot water because of it---at fault or not. Thanx KayDeeJay, that's kind of along the lines of what I'm looking for.

RE: How about this solution to my busted ramp assist springs?

I have a cargo trailer/car hauler, as well as my TH. I use my cargo trailer to haul my Jeep or hot rod. It uses a cable/pulley attached to a rotating tensioned spring. The spring and pulley are mounted to the ceiling. I'm looking to see if I have a pic of it somewhere. It's tensioned to the point where it takes almost no effort to open or close, and the door itself is much heavier than on my TH, as it's rated for cars.

You're LEGALLY over weight, you get in an accident-then what?

I'm overweight. So is my truck. Like MOST people here towing a loaded TH, I'm overloaded, even for a dually. My question here is pretty simple---- Who here has an ACTUAL story to tell of being in, or hearing of a verifiable accident, where the tow vehicle was overloaded and something LEGALLY ended up coming of it? I don't want to debate the merits of being underweight vs over, SRW vs. DRW, how safe you feel, how well your rig tows, what mods make it more stable, etc. I want to only discuss what has legally happened to someone as a result being over GCVWR and in an accident. No hypotheticals or what-ifs, the real end-result of something.

RE: Is it safe for my Dodge 2500 to pull a 39ft Cyclone?

I'm not going to chime in and give you a lecture, the weight police have already spoken. But please keep this in mind--- You will be very over the LEGAL gcvwr of the truck. On the slim chance your 25,000lb rig plows through a mini van full of kids, your fault or not, in a court of law you could be facing a very large Negligence lawsuit. IF--big IF here, you should happen to have an accident--your fault or not, you run a very high risk of your insurance company denying any payment as a result, up to and including any lawsuit that may come of it. You would not be treated any different in court than an overloaded big rig, and attorneys love their job......

Biggest party sound system in a TH

Just want to hear what others have done to load a big sound system in their TH. Stock doesn't count--a lot of TH's are coming with the built in amp, sub and outside little car speakers. I want to hear what people have done when they REALLY want to get their party on. I DJ on the side. A large group of friends came with us to the Kenny Chesney concert in Seattle. We tailgated with a pair of my JBL dual 15" stacks, through a Mackie 1400i pro amp, on a Behringer 16 channel mixer. Had to run the genny from 9am till we left for the concert at 4pm, went through almost a quarter tank of gas!

RE: Cyclone question

Here's why I needed to know how much water I could hold..... http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff174/boatycall/4-1.jpg Tailgating party at the Kenny Chesney concert here in Seattle last weekend. Needed to fill the kiddy pool. Got it about 1/2 full by filling the gray Wa/Dryer tank with fresh water, and about 2/3rds of my fresh water tank. Brought the BBQ, a pair of my JBL Stacks hooked to a 1,000 watt PA amp, and a 32" flat panel in the storage playing a live concert.

RE: Cyclone question

you have 5? Bonus. And I thought 4 was a lot of tanks! I definitely have 4. 1 black, 3 gray. Just would really like to know how much they each hold.

RE: Cyclone question

Hmmm. interesting thread. I have 3 gray, the post only covers other rigs with 1 or 2 gray. I have a total of 4 separate waste tanks and 4 handles. So I'm going to guess that based off the other thread, I the 2 for bath and kitchen are 45 each, and the third in the rear for the washer I would assume is also a 45 gal. Anybody finds anything different let me know!

Cyclone question

I have an '09 Cyclone 4012. I can't seem to find the answer to this on the internet. My TH has 3 gray tanks--bath, kitchen, and Washer/Dryer. Well, ok, dryer doesn't need a tank, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I'm wanting to find out the capacity of each of the 3 gray tanks---and not what is commonly listed everywhere I looked, which is the gray capacity total. I need to know what it is per tank. There's a reason I need to know, but you all would laugh if I told ya what it was. :B

RE: Camping in hot areas?

if the generator can't run thus no A/C?? Has anyone camped in the heat?? I'm an electrical engineer by day, avid beer consumer by night.... Anyway, I have a rhetorical question--how much money would you be willing to spend to solve this? I say this because there are options, but they cost a fair amount of money. First, need to know what your rig is, and how big is the roof air? 15kBtu, 13.5kBtu? Reason I ask this, is because if you REALLY want to do this, you can. But it will be expensive. First solution is an inverter. Now, before everyone flames me, it can be done. But it goes back to 'it ain't gonna be cheap'. You would need at least a 2Kw continuous/4Kw surge inverter, and I'd say probably two 8D cat batteries, maybe 3, for one night. During the day, the genny charges them back up. This would run about $700-ish, and the batteries would take up a lot of space, are heavy, and need charging every day for this particular application. Next option would be a Honda EU generator - one of the super quite ones, put inside a sound insulated / air ventilated box. But - those have a hard time starting big roof airs. 2kw model goes for 850-900 on the internet but CAN'T start a 13.5kBtu roof air. 3kw model can, but it may be too noisy. Or there's "pairing" two-2kw's together, but again, cha-ching. $1800 minumum by the time you add the mating box.

RE: Batteries for Toy Hauler

I have 4 Trojan T105's in my camper running a 1500/3000w inverter. Can run anything but the roof air. In my new TH, long story short, a small option I paid for was later found to not be in the coach, and the dealer made it good with me by trading that option off for 4 Interstate deep cycles. I didn't really care about the option anyway. I just got the TH last week, haven't had time to get an inverter in yet. Curious to see how they hold up. I've never been a fan of 12v deep cycles because they are soooo much more fragile than Golf Cart batts. By fragile, I mean the physical construction of the lead plates -- much thinner and spaced closer together. Lends themselves to lunching a cell easier, and less forgiving on over-charging. I have a nice size stack of deep cycles in my back behind my shop for cores that have failed over the years in the various RV's I've had.

RE: I've been banished......

Oh, sorry, it's not stock, I just ran out of room on my sig. I have a K&N intake, 4" full straight-through exhaust, SCMT set at level 3/110HP, and a Jasper racing transmission they affectionately call the "Monsterbox". The tranny's been in for 4 years now, after I was having issues with the stock tranny not liking the engine mods and hauling a 12k travel trailer. Other stuff I've done to the truck--manual torque converter lockout, big a$$ stereo/dvd system, Torklift Superhitch w/4 foot truss for pulling the cargo trailer when the camper's on, and the Torklift camper tie down system. Just put on new Ceramic brakes and 6 new BFG All-Terrains. Oh, and new floor mats. ;-)

RE: I've been banished......

You had me at kegerater.......;) Nice trailer! Were are the pics from? Mav Pics are from a place near Leavenworth, WA. You of course can't take a 5'er up there, you've gotta unhook and go solo. Nothing in the way of a trailer would be able to turn around once you got to the end of the road/trail head. Truck with TC or smaller motorhome can easily turn around. I'd say no bigger than 30'er.

I've been banished......

After 7 years on this website, I've been banished from my former group, forced to find a new home. Labeled as a traitor, a Benedict Arnold, I come here seeking new friends and a new home. I betrayed my brotheren in the Truck Camper forum, I purchased a Toy Hauler last week. My new toy is a '09 Cyclone 4012. And unlike my camper(which I kept), I definitely can't say "Oh, I barely know it's back there". Picked it up on Thursday, loaded it up, and went on my baptismal run this weekend. Found the usual "new RV issues" and made up a punch list for the dealer. Taking it in today and dropping it off. Weights--- I didn't have a toy in back this weekend, just a full size BBQ, Kegerator, and a big Costco 3-burner camp cooker. Bout half a tank of water, 10 gallons of gas and full propane. Steers - 4960 Drives - 7840 Trailer - 12580 GCVW - 25380 Hauled great. This is my first 5'er. It hauled better than any travel trailer I've had in the past. One thing I did readily notice, was the tendency of the trailer to make the truck, for lack of any better description, "wobble". Go over a bump, and when the trailer hit the bump the truck would "wobble" in a forward / backward feeling motion. Going down the freeway, even with the cruise set, the forward/backward motion feel was enough to make the trip uncomfortable. Any thoughts as to what can be done to improve it? Truck is stock, with the Camper/Heavy Service suspension package--13 leafs per side. No airbags, nothing else.
