RE: Trip report: Yorkshire Dales, England

Wow, again, great pictures, great report! Question: has Mary Queen of Scots stayed EVERYWHERE? Sometimes seems like it... Good to see that lambing has started - a great time of year!

RE: Trip report: Yorkshire Dales, England

Wow, nice report. We'll be over in your neck of the woods in about 4 weeks - driving a little bit smaller vehicle. I've got to hand it to you - driving a camper around the British countryside. We love the single track roads, but with a compact car. Thanks for sharing.

RE: Small holding tanks

That's one of the considerations one makes when shopping for a camper. If the camper has an outside shower, it helps with the grey tank issue. Also, are you going to be using it mostly in campgrounds with bathrooms?

RE: Dodge, Truck Camper and Spare

My Alpenlite doesn't hang below the bed of the truck, so it's not a problem to access the spare. Otherwise, I suspect one would raise the camper above the truck bed until it's high enough to access.

RE: How do you make your bed in a TC?

I just climb up in the CO and fight the fight. Seems worth it for a comfortable bed and sleep.

RE: feedback on portable heater

We use a Buddy portable heater in the daytime to save on battery power; however, we're wary of using it all night because of the possibility of CO build-up (in spite of our CO detector). We usually set the furnace at about 50 degrees for the night to keep things from freezing, and bundle up in bed. Works for us - after all, we're camping, right?

RE: Ever had a rear tire go flat on your SRW while loaded?

Yep. I needed help from a good samaritan, as my jack was inadequate to lift the load. Thank goodness there was a good samaritan very close by.

RE: Spare tires: Do you have one? Have you used it?

I have used mine, and I'm happy to have one. They're expensive, but when you need one it's well worth the extra expense.

RE: Leveling on Truck?

We macro-level with the blocks and then stabilize and fine-tune as necessary with the jacks.

Brad, Thanks for doing a superior job these many years. I'll miss you as I can see many other will, too. Hope you'll keep posting, as your advice, too, has been top-notch and well-considered always.

RE: TC Owners Loners?

Most of the time when we're camping we like to be alone or nearly so if possible. Barring that it's nice to have like-minded people in the campground - those who like it quiet and enjoy nature unspoiled. We never like to camp where the campers are one on top of the other.

RE: Front mount hitches

I have a Curt, also, installed by a professional as I'm not too handy. We use it for our bike carrier, but could be used for a cargo carrier (300 lb max). We're very happy with ours.

RE: 2"X4" between truck and camper??

I used a 2X4 with my old camper (a Pilgrim), but the bumpers on this camper seem to do the job effectively.

RE: WHY USE AIR BAGS

If they stop sway with large TCs, I can't say I have experienced it. A sway bar is designed to stop sway. Actually the sway bar only reduces the sway, but it does a great job. Air bags can be used for leveling while on the road, and while camped. Typically they are used to raise the back of the truck to it's position before a load (TC) is put in the truck. They are not only used with big TCs.
I encourage you to use the search feature on this Forum, and you will find many posts on the function of the air bags, pros and cons. I think you will get lots of input on this Thread, but a much broader idea on air bags by using the search.

This is my experience, too.

RE: Where you going for Labor Day?

Going to the wife's 50th high school reunion, without the camper, unfortunately. Probably going up north later in the month, though. It ought to be quiet and peaceful, ... ahhhhhh, just thinking about it relaxes me.
