RE: Do U ever wonder # of RVs a Prevost owner owned before?

Big Jimbo, I'd like to know where you're going to find a 40 foot Prevost? They are 45 feet long and that's all they have. I don't believe they could cut 5 feet off one. Bob W

RE: How much did it cost you to camp last year?

We just completed an 6 month trip through AZ, CO, WY, MT and into Alberta to BC and across the ALCAN to Alaska. The best I can figure, the total cost for the trip was about $5,400. That includes everything we put on our Debit Card. Hope this helps. Happy Trails Bob W

RE: Diesel Pusher Questions

Hi Flash: I have a 2K 40 foot DP with a 315 turbo Cummins engine. It puts out 950LB torque at 1400 rpm. A 350 HP CAT will produce 840LB torque at 1400rpn. Rember it's torque that gets you over the big mountains. Also CAT is NO LONGER making OTR diesel engines. At repair time a Cummins is easier to repair and cost less too, it's a sleved engine. I really believe you'll be happier with a Cummins than anything else. Happy Roads. Bob W.

RE: New Format

This new format is wierd. On some pages when you go on there are no "tips" on that page and you can go to the bottom and return to the top oor go to another selection. On some pages there are the "tips" and you can't do anything when you scroll to the bottom. Please get you heads out of where they are now and fix the forum like it was. You should have been able to read all the people's comments and go back where they want it. Bob W

RE: Fairbanks Camping

CA, I can asure you that you'll have a BALL on your trip to Alaska. I would strongly recommend going across the Alaska Highway starting in Dawson Creek, BC. The roads are for the most in good shape, there are some areas in Yukon where they're working on the roads. Hopefully by next year they will do done. We stayed at Road's End RV Park which is just a few miles north of North Pole. It's a Passport America Park and the rate is $15, they have 30/50 amp FHU sites. It's a small park but it's nice and quite and not far from Fairbanks and North Pole. I'd call ahead for a reservation. If I can help in any other way send me a Private Message here. Happy Trails Bob W.

RE: New Format

I don't understand the thinking of the "powers to be" quite often you get a message that says the forum will be down for a day or two for update and three days later it's still down. When it comes back on this is what we got. I've sent SEVERAL emails asking for help in getting "states visited" back on signature page and have not received the 1st reply. I guess they are too busy messing up the forum pages. Another thing if you use your 1st Amendment rights and post something they don't like, 'IT'S GONE'. I would like to see the old format back and have the "powers to be" respond to emails from people that are having problems with the forum. Thanks Bob W.

RE: Problem with mail forwarding--advice?

If you qualify (drive a motor home) you might want to chdck out FMCA. Their mail forwarding address is Cincinnati, OH. I've been using them for 8 years and have had no problems. For our prescriptions, we use Medicare and Tricare for life and have then filled an Wal-Mart and have had no problems. Where do you have your prescriptions filled? Happy Trails Bob W.

RE: signature photo

Tom, I have tried this several timess in the past several months and each time I get a error message saying "Sorry we can't do this due to a problem with our server" or something like that. I would think that as many times as they shut down the forum for repairs they would have that fixed by now. All I'm trying to post is the States and Providences I've visited. Can you help me in doing this? Thanks Bob W.

RE: Who's driven the Alcan Hwy to Alaska?

We made a wonderful trip across the Alaska Highway this summer. For the most part the highways were about as good as some of the "secondary" roads in the "lower 48". The worse part was in Yukon where they were doing a lot of repair work and the gravel they used caused large columns of dust. We drove about 45 MPH across the highway for 2 reasons, 1 because of frost heaves and construction and 2 so that we could enjoy the scenery and the animals. I am planning another trip in 2011 and I would recommend that you take your own swet time, enjoy the scenery and the animals, don't be in a big hurry to get anywhere. Also don't pay a lot of attention to the "horrible" stories of bad roads. Happy Trails Bob W

RE: Mesa Verde- Colorado

Check out the Mountain Ute RV Park in Cortez. They have a nice RV park with full hook ups. When you check in they tell you the weekly rate is $170 BUT they also tell you to go to the Casino and get a user card and then the rate drops to $75 per week. It's not that far from Mesa Verde, Monument Valley or Arches National Park. We stayed there is April in a MN and really enjoyed it. Happy Trails Bob W.

RE: A Cell Phone Revolution has begun

We have T-Mobile and I believe we're paying too much for it $80.00. If we were to change to the new WalMart program could we keep the phones we now have? We have 2 Blackberry phones. Thanks Bob W

RE: GMAC Insurance Renewal WOW

Don, I too had GMAC for about 9 years and each year they would increase the rate and when I asked about it they would say TN had a rate increase, yea right. This year I called Hartford with AARP and they were able to increase some of my coverage. They ask how much I would want to sell the DP for and I told them and now it's insured for that amount if it's totaled. I save a little over $800 per year with Hartford. You might give them a call. RE: Geico Motorhome Insurance ..... Anyone have it? Good or Bad?

I had insurance with GMAC for several years and they kept going up on premiums even though I had no claims. I called GEICO and they were about the same cost and when they learned I was a "full timer" they didn't really sound interested. I then called Hartford with AARP and the rate they gave me saved me about $800 per year, also I was able to increase the personal property coverage. You might want to give them a call and see what they can do for you. Happy Trails Bob W

RE: Revisit R.V. licensing Registration

I have a 2000 Diplomat and a 2003 Honda CRV and they are plated in TN and the cost for BOTH is $50.00. It's hard to beat that price. In TN the plates for a MH from class B to a 45' Prevost are the same as a car, $25 if you renew by mail as I do. Bob W

RE: What to expect driving to Alaska from Montana

Dr J., we left Tarpley, TX about mid Feb and did some sight seeing in NM, AZ, CO, WY and MT before crossing into Canada. We drove the ALCAN and really enjoyed the trip. Yes we had some bad roads but for the most part they were in Yukon and then not for a long distance. The roads in Alaska from the border to Tok had a lot of "frost heaves" and they were not marked like the ones in Canada. I don't understand why you only spent 30 days on your trip, it seems to me all you did was drive and not stop to "smell the roses". We got back into the US about mid Aug and we are making plans to go back in 2011 to see what we missed this time. I'm sure glad that we weren't traveling with you cause I believe your poor attitude would have ruined it for us. Maybe you need to sell the RV and just stay in Texas.

RE: RV Insurance Lesson Learned

I guess we're lucky, we were on our trip through Canada and Alasks. We got a rock ping on the left windshield. While in Great Falls, MT the ins company Hartford through AARP contacted a repairman who came out and drilled and filled the crack. A few weeks later it gave way and spread to the top of the windshield. I also got another ping on the same side. When we got home I called them and they gave me a claim number and I called the glass company, they ordered the windshield and replaced it within 3 days. I never had an adjuster to fool with, Hartford was GREAT. Bob W

RE: Alaska in 2010 Advice

Jim, we just came back from a wonderful trip across Canada and into Alaska and we really enjoyed it. There were some places mainly in Yukon where they had rough roads and heavy construction. We drove a 40 foot Monaco Diplomat and had no problems in parks due to size. We are planning to take the trip again in 2011. One thing I can suggest is "take your time, don't be in a big hurry", we drove an average of 45 miles across the ALCAN so that we could see the sited and in case we came upon a bunch of animals we could stop safely. I created a blog of our trip and here is the link in case you'd like to see it: http"//www.thisisatripofalifetime.blogspot.com Let me know if you have problems getting it. Happy Trails Bob W

RE: Dream trip

We just completed "A Trip Of A Lifetime" when we returned from out drive in our MH to Canada and Alaska. I can't think of any better "Dream Trip". We liked it so much we're making plans to do it again in 2011. Bob W.

RE: Have you ever seen such a harsh no-refund policy?

Hi Ed. The easy solution to your problem is DON'T GO TO FL. ANY MORE. There they refer to you as "Snow Birds" and all they care about is your money. Insteade go to the Texas Hill Country, there they refer to you as "Winter Texans" and they treat you like "family". The sites there are a lot cheaper than they are in FL and the weather is real nice too. Happy Trails Bob W.
